I'm waiting for "Sixkill" now. Had had seen another Jesse Stone book was due out in the fall but not really picked up on the fact it would actually be written by another author.I've been a fan of both series and will also be interested to see how this turns out. Unfortunately, I do have to say I'm old enough to have been through this several times with 'favorite authors' dying and the series being continued by another author ... and have never been happy with the results. Hopefully, this will be the exception!
Yeah, Sharon, I'm skeptical, as well. I really liked the westerns Parker wrote. And I liked the Sunny Randall series. I guess that means I liked everything he wrote. The guy writing the Jesse Stone novels wrote the screenplays for the movies, so I'm hopeful those books will be good. He seems to have a good feel for Stone's character.
I don't know about the Spenser novels. But it might be a good thing. After about 50 Parker was starting to repeat himself.

Consequences
I don't have every single book Parker wrote on my bookshelves for re-reading but I certainly have a lot of them. I got to the point with the Sunny Randall and Jesse Stone series that I often simply skipped the chapters where Parker was detailing the latest appointment with the psychiatrist ... I thought he got really carried away with that for some reason.Like you, I'm more hopeful of the ongoing Stone books than the Spenser series but maybe that will work too ... hope springs eternal, as they say.
@ Merrill. Thanks for the info !!! I have read all the Spenser novels, and am excited that they will continue. Have read a couple of Sunny Randall, but have not started the Jesse Stone series yet. That is great news that we will be able to enjoy more in the series.@Sharon. Saw "Sixkill" in Costco. So it is out there :)
@Pamela, I like the Jesse Stone novels better than the Spenser novels. I highly recommend them.Merrill Heath

Here's a link to an interesting article about a new author taking over another writer's established series and characters: http://www.salon.com/books/feature/20...
Interesting that so many preferred the Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall series to Spenser. The only ones I enjoyed were the Spenser series, the stand alone novels and -- to a lesser degree -- the westerns.
The Spenser series was my favorite. I liked most of the Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall series, but got really tired of the ongoing page after page detailing the psych consults of both characters because of their personal issues. Hey ... get on with the story here!I tried the westerns but never did get into those. Am afraid the only westerns I still (re)read and enjoy are the Louis L'Amour books.

I'm a big fan of both these series. I hope the new writers do them justice. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
