I suppose because I read further into the series, and saw improvement in the author's writing, I feel more lenient towards this first book. There was definitely a learning curve.

Right. You're able to look at the book in context of the entire series. Which does make a difference.

I know! That's how it sounds, right?

But the idea was I own all these books and I eventually want to read them so I was posting them and then the group was voting on what they might be interested in reading. Because I'm liable to be talking to myself here otherwise. And I do plenty of that in real life. ;-)

Then I realized from the What are You Reading thread that there were all kinds of new books coming out all the time that I was probably missing out on. So I opened it up to suggestion -- and there have been some great suggestions -- but it's also getting overwhelming with the numbers of nominations and possibilities.

So anyway, let's leave as is for July and in August I'll take a look at trying to get more of my library online so there might be more to entice you all.

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1052 comments I know we got a little off topic there, but that's pretty normal around here. In the May book club we ended up discussing the Lambda awards! I think there's a whole "hottest actor" conversation in the General News thread. And I'm pretty sure there's a discussion of the pros and cons of various ereaders in the freebies thread. It's what we do.

I could have missed something (I frequently do), or there could be stuff going on behind the scenes of which I am unaware. But just looking at what's been said here, I don't see any reason to worry or make changes. We'll pick a book for next month, and everyone will read it, or not. They'll like it, or not. And then we'll end up discussing recipes or car repair. Or not. :)

That sounds good to me. I usually enjoy our digressions as much as the discussions!

Are you saying that as an author? Or a reader? And if you're saying that as an author, is it true of your own reviews or also that of others? "

As a reader. I am not an author.

Thanks to Josh and Kaje for clarifying. I will feel free to say what I think about the books.

They usually crack me the heck up! But generally contain some interesting discussions.

Yep, thanks all, for clarifying -- and sorry to have triggered all this digression :). It was actually in response to catching up with this thread and seeing Charming's post:

" Yeah, I'll be interested as well. My problems with it are things I think will annoy Josh Lanyon fans in particular. And the author is a Goodreads author so she might read the comments. Ah well."

which did ignite in me some doubt about the right etiquette should the author be present, as she is a member here.

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments SJ Frost' HSD story is posted. It's damn good! Now I might even pick up Conquest again. LOL.

Thanks for the heads up, Cleon! I just finished reading it, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Wouldn't mind reading more about Ash and Jackson!

Agreed. Her writing has gotten *much* better. I don't think I'll reread Conquest, but I am willing to try later books.
