I've forgotten the author (but I think the last name started between H-P)and title but the book's cover was a cabin in the woods/forest with hole in the front cover to continue the picture on next page turn...the rest of the picture was the back of young boys head looking towards a scene with a fairy/elf and assorted magical creatures...The general idea of the story was a family had moved to this cottage/farm area (mother, father, older daughter, younger son, possibly a baby) and strange occurrences started...*SPOILERS AFTER*

Thanks for your help, this book was in my library but got destroyed when someone decided to drive a car through the wall the book was on.

Oh wow, completely forgot this was on here. Sorry no I'm not figured out it was http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43... (Faerie Tale by Raymond E. Feist) a bit ago. The Goodreads link doesn't have the cover I saw but it's the same book.
