And you call yourself a Shannon Hale fan...Robin McKinley's books were a part of Shannon's introduction to fantasy.

I've only read Beauty and Chalice; I disliked both immensely, but I intend to read The Hero and the Crown or The Blue Sword because I feel like I could like those better.

i think the blue sword comes first, but i actually read the hero and the crown before it. its in the same world, but the blue sword happens later on, and the story of the hero and the crown is a legend that the character comes across...
you should read them. i cant say they are my favorite books, but they are good
