Michelle Gilmore I came across this series on amazon while I was looking for some sci-fi, and SFR books to add to my collection. The first book in the series is Turning Point (Sholan Alliance, #1) by Lisanne Norman

Vicky | 15 comments I've read the Sholan series up to book four. I would definitely classify the first book as SFR. The remainder of the series that I read were more romantic SF.

If you're library has it, and you'd like to read it soon, let me know. I wouldn't mind doing a buddy read if you're interested.

Thanks for that info Vicky. Can you please explain the difference between SFR and romantic SF? Now, I'm feeling like I need to go out and buy the rest of the series, LOL!

Vicky | 15 comments As I understand it, there are three different classifications for science fiction and romance combinations:

Futuristic Romances are light on the science fiction and heavy on the romance. The science fiction is more of a backdrop for the romance plot.

Science Fiction Romances are an equal blending of science fiction and romance. If you take out either the science fiction OR the romance, the story plot doesn't work.

Romantic Science Fiction is heavy on the science fiction and light on romance. The romance is more of a sub-plot to the main science fiction plot.

I'm sure others can chime in with their interpretations of the various combinations.

Great, thanks Vicky!

Hi Cali. I've checked into some other groups that already have buddy reads going on. All the groups dedicate a thread to the chosen book. Some post as the go along. One group in particular- Nothing but Reading Challenges, assigns a few chapters at a time. Someone is designated (if they're comfortable with it) to lead the discussion for a block of chapters. Hmmm.... I hope I'm being clear, as I'm usually not, LOL!

If you'd like to do a buddy read, whichever way you and anyone else who might be interested, is fine by me.

namericanwordcat | 156 comments I think I get it.

So, under group reads or can you start a new discussion called buddy reads and then we can start a buddy read for Turning Point.

I have read about half the book. Do you want to post as we go along? This seems easist.

I am in. :)

I think posting as we go along is easiest too. I haven't started yet, but I'll try to read a few chapters tonight. How are you liking it so far? Am I going to want to stay up all night reading it?!

namericanwordcat | 156 comments I like it. I stalled out about half way through. But with someone to talk to I will keep going. :) I think you will not need to stay up all night lol it is pleasurable but not enthralling.

There are some fun parts.

Let me know where you are. I have my sister's wedding coming up next weekend soon so I might disappear here and there.

No problem. I'm going to start it, but I'll probably be reading another book at the same time. So, it may be slow going for me. I'll post as I go along. Have fun at the wedding!

It's a good series, though it changes main characters in the later books and things get a little weird with time travel and stuff going on. There may be some points that will press peoples' personal buttons, but it's pretty mild.

Basically, this series has a bit of everything in it. Telepaths, aliens, time travel, spaceships...

Thanks for the info Harper. I'm finding it a little hard to get into, but I'll keep reading on. I thinking it must be one of those books best read in one sitting.

That's what's kind of squicky for some people. Interspecies relations.

namericanwordcat | 156 comments Okay! Who wants to talk about this book? Half way throgh and back from the wedding.

I was wondering if that's where the story was leading. I haven't gotten that far yet, but the idea of interspecies relations, is definitely new to me.

new_user | 755 comments LOL. It's just that I already suspend my disbelief so much for the cat-person that his liking a human is mild to me, LOL.
