Started reading it when I woke up on my Ipad. Unbelievable.

Just started, and I can't tell you how nice it is to see Davenport back in true form. I'm reading as slow as I can.EDIT: This is an excellent book that doesn't disappoint.
I didn't think Davenport had it in him : )
I agree. I really like all the Prey books but this one kept me completely engrossed from beginning to end.
I have everything he's written, and I read everything he writes as soon as it comes out. Biggest problem I have with him is none of his books take me more than a couple of days to finish.

I sit down to read one of his books and what feels like 10 minutes later I'm halfway through.

This was by far one of my favorites. I love them all, but this one was just really good. I read the second half in one night. Couldn't put it down.

okay, i'm convinced. this was on my must read list but i'll start it now. :-) after that i'm sure i'll have to move on to Broken Prey and then I'll probably have to break down and buy Stolen Prey since it's hard to stop once you start.
I thought this was one of Sandford's best books. Davenport as a young cop was a little to eager and arrogant but he developed into someone I can say has gotten better with age.I found that Sandford's books took a turn somewhere in about the middle for a few books and they left a little to be desired (its been so long I can't pinpoint it) but he has definetley come back in fine form the last 5 years or so.
I gave up on this series at one point because of Davenport's quasi-legal approach to getting evidence on the bad guys he was chasing. Could this be the turn you were talking about, Stacey? I know cops do this sometimes, but found it offensive nonetheless because ethics to me are a big part of a character's persona and felt Davenport had none, that anything (legal or not) was okay to do as long as it 'caught' the bad guys. After a several year hiatus and hungry for something different from books I'd been reading, I gave Davenport another shot. I'm glad I did because I've enjoyed the later books in the series very much. What does that say about me? And, yes, I agree with all of you that this is one of the best in the series.
I'm not a cop, never have been. I don't claim to know how cop shops work but Sandford writes in a way that I think is realistic. His books, to me are believable. I loved Buried Prey because it took us back to Davenport's early cop days when he was in uniform. It gave me yet another perspective of who and how he is and was. I thought this was as good as any of his books and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have his new book, Silken Prey on order and should get it around the middle of this month. I'm salivating waiting for it.

I'm in the middle of Baldacci's The Innocent and am enjoying it but now I can't wait to finish it for the additional reason of having Silken Prey to start.

Naked introduced Letty and she has become a favorite character for me. Buried brought us Davenport when he was new to the force.

I also like Lettie and the way she was brought into the fold, so to speak. She seems like a "take no prisoners" type of gal.
I read with his most recent, that he isn't doing all of the writing which is a bit of a disappointment. My theory is he created the Virgil Flowers character so he could still have a character that does a lot of the stuff Lucas used to do before he got married and settled down. I do enjoy the characteristics that are specific to Virgil -- as mentioned, the t-shirts, etc.
I hadn't known someone else was doing some of the writing when I read STORM FRONT, but there was definitely something different and, it felt as though something was missing. It turns out it was Sandford himself.
Please note, I do like the original Virgil, but this novel found him engaged in actions that just didn't seem to feel like the authentic Virgil.
