Alex Sinclair I thought I would add a few tips and tricks that I am starting to see authors use and have increased sales. They have the mass tagging where different authors tag each others books to make it more visible in the kindle rankings and then mass "Liking" where authors go to other authors kindle pages and "Like" the book on facebook, which against raises its profile. Also Kindle Reviews, where you review products similiar to your book to re-direct traffic from DVDS, Books & so on that are also selling well.

Missy Martine (missymartine) | 88 comments It works on ARe too, Alex. There is a "like" button at the top of each book and it increases your rating with them the more people "like" you. I belong to several groups that keep a running list and we go into Amazon and "Like" as well as agree with the Tags that the author set up. It definitely improved my numbers on Amazon.

Alex Sinclair Hi Missy, I didn't even think of ARE, but thanks for reminding me. Do you think we should create the like, tags and so on type threads here?

message 4: by Missy (new)

Missy Martine (missymartine) | 88 comments It's always good to increase your hits on Amazon, the more you have the better your ratings. Just have a list started where everyone gives you their link - preferably their author page link so that you can access all their books from one link instead of putting all their separate book links in. If you don't already have an author page with them I highly recommend it.

Alex Sinclair I have the author page. What I will do is create some threads a little later tonight for promotion on ARE, Kindle for tags & likes. People can join in if they like. I am also going to be posting some other cool tips and tricks on re-directing traffic to your books, which seems to be working for mine.

Missy Martine (missymartine) | 88 comments Excellent - you share yours and I'll share mine - I just reached 25,000 hits on my site and it's not quite 2 years old. That's my first step in directing traffic to my books - get them to my website.

Alex Sinclair I will post some things a little later tonight. I think directing traffic to the site is important. I spend about 60 hours a week at the moment going through forums, book groups and just talking books. I will explain the best way to do this later, but my books have been doing very well since, Five Days Notice was released last week. It is a knock on effect. I have been promoting that one, but Under The Midnight Sky climbed into U.K top 7000 last night and Five Days Notice climbed to U.K top 8000 and in the U.S they are doing pretty well. Will explain how I do it a little later on when I have some more time to go into detail.

Lee Murphy (leeannsontheimermurphy) | 62 comments I'll be eager to hear - I spend endless hours promoting, more these days than writing but my numbers aren't that good, not yet so I'm open to any tricks of the trade.

Alex Sinclair I will get around too it, sorry. Spent all yesterday in hospital seeing knee specalists, lol. Supposed to be an hour in and out, but spent all day and had an MRI and all sorts of tests, lol. Will write it up tomorrow.

Lee Murphy (leeannsontheimermurphy) | 62 comments No hurry with it - I'm plenty busy now. Hope your knee/knees are better soon!

Felicia Rogers (feliciarogers) | 14 comments Alex, I can't wait to hear your tips. I feel like I spend almost as much time promoting as writing and at times I feel as if I'm spinning in mud! Have you noticed some works are easier to promote than others? For instance, I've had decent success with reviews of my YA paranormal, but my contemporary romance has a much harder time. It seems that without that extra 'hook' it is hard to get people to take notice. Not many people want just a plan romance anymore.
I can't wait to hear your advice. Thanks for sharing. And not to should stupid but what is ARE?

Felicia Rogers (feliciarogers) | 14 comments should= sound...my hands are typing faster than my brain is working!
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Lee Murphy (leeannsontheimermurphy) | 62 comments I feel like I'm spending more time promoting than writing and so I struggle to find a balance that works (I haven't yet).

ARE = Advance Reading Copy

Felicia Rogers (feliciarogers) | 14 comments Thanks for the information. The only schedule I've come up with so far is too get up really early and write in the mornings and then spend the afternoons with promoting.

Lee Murphy (leeannsontheimermurphy) | 62 comments Felicia, I also get up very early, start out with a little promotion, settle down to write, and then go back to promoting. I would love to create a perfect balance and if I do, I'll share the "formula"!!

message 17: by Felicia (new)

Felicia Rogers (feliciarogers) | 14 comments I could do more in the mornings if I didn't homeschool three children and try to run a household! But life is like that.
But if you find the perfect formula please share! I find myself asking for reviews or typing on blogs constantly wonder if it is worth the time. I wish I knew exactly what worked and what doesn't.

Alex Sinclair I have been planning to do a detailed article on this, but I have been struggling for time the last few days. I personally don't think there is that much of a big secret to promoting. I mean if you post blogs/comments/reviews and things on your site/facebook page then people stop listening after about 20 seconds, lol.

My biggest tip and trick is joining in with discussions. It does mean you end up spending about 60 hours a week promoting your books, but it is worth it. Since the release of, Five Days Notice, my suspense romance novel my sales for this month have been my best ever and its not even half way through the month. I join in with about 200 discussions a day on many book groups, forums and so on. I talk books, about characters, arcs, story plots, motivations, I ask questions and what not.

I promote through talking on.

Kindle
Yahoo Forum
GoodRead
Facebook Groups
Myspace
Nook Forums
Book Forums

I find anywhere and everywhere to promote. I really think you only get from promotion what you are willing to put in. I try to find topics I can add something too, I join in, I friend people, I talk to them and get to know them. If people like you, they will check out your books. I really haven't done anything other than this, but Five Days Notice nearly got into the U.K top 100, it has done well in the U.S. Oddly, Under The Midnight Sky, my samurai romance novella has been my biggest seller, climbing to just outside the U.K top 100 and climbing to its highest ever rank in the U.S, but furthermore my other novella, Bitch, climbed to its second highest position in the U.S and that has been out for nearly a year.

Talking to people really works.

I will write my proper tips and tricks for this at a later date. I will also explain how to use blogs and blog tours to increase traffic and about tagging, liking and reviewing and also have to do reviews for other books to create traffic for your books.

Thanks for this information, Alex. I have to start devoting time each day to promoting and will start today! You have inspired me.

message 20: by Alex (new)

Alex Sinclair I have improved my author tricks & tips list. I will be doing a blog on it very soon that way it will be up for everyone to see, but the tagging, goodreads, kindle forums, facebook and blogs are the best thing. Also reviewing books is a good method, but I will explain that in greater detail in the blog.
