Laura (apenandzen) Did Prodigal Summer ruin you for anything else Fiona?

That's how I was after EL&IC. I was ruined and bookless for like a week.

Petra X (petra-x) I just read Pete the Sheep Sheep. That has a Shaun in it. Is it a related book? I loved the book.
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/68... Its about a sheep who goes into the beauty business having not succeeded in cracking the sheepdog cartel of herding.

Fiona it might be an adventure to go to Scotland. But last I looked on a map London was no where near Scotland.

Why do employers do that? I had applied for a job 3 years ago that was suppose to be in the town next to mine and it ended up being in down town Chicago. I said no! I hate commuting.

message 2007: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay so I got some extremely good news today! I am very excited.

I have been in the middle of a horrible custody battle and I am getting custody of my son! Yeah! My 2Bx can still fight me on this but his odds of winning is 5%. I'll take those odds any day!!!!!!!!!

Fiona New York would be a change from where you are now. I would have to tell you it's extremely cold with excessive amounts of snow. If your really going to try job searching on another Continent I would for something fun like Australia (says sarcastically LOL!)

message 2008: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Congratulations Emilee!

message 2009: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Fiona!

I love CSI NY! I did date a guy from NY & he was hot. Damn I should have married him!!!!!!!!

REally cute!

message 2010: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh My son is 7 years old. His a cutie! Thanks Laura!

I am just catching up before I make dinner. I should really be cleaning or something but I just want to bum!

message 2011: by [deleted user] (new)

Too bad I don't have one of those computer cams you could watch it with me!

Dogs are daft! That's what makes them so adorable! I must admitt they are utterly entertaining!

That would be good. Then you could take a little trip to Chitown we could go to the theatre. I could take a little trip to NY. It's all good!

message 2012: by [deleted user] (new)

I live 20 mins away from Chicago. I think a flight to NY is about 1 1/2-2 hrs. Not too far. Once you get east of the Mississippi everything is fairly close.

Dogs love all over body massages!Dogs love to be spoiled.

My niece has a little chuowahia (how the heck do you spell that??) She calls it Binky. It looks like a rat.
But it is cute!

message 2017: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Congrats Emilee!
Fiona, I have the same problem. Agencies even call me if I want to work in Limerick when I specified Dublin. But the mail that I get with jobs linked to what I request are crappy too. I mainly hate to see every day the same jobs for more than weeks, not hearing about it when you apply for them....seeing the same job on one page for like 7-8 times.....

And if i am told that they aren't going to hire anyone for this year anymore, why do they keep the vacancies onlne????

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments first lesson in the job hunt for me:

*If it sounds too good to be true..it probably is*

crazy story...

so i found this job online for an advertising agency..it sounded amazing..room for growth..working with the advertising for professional sports teams and such. so i contacted them. the woman emailed me to set up an appointment and then called me. she was really pushy with me..and i told my boyfriend that..and said that i wasn't so sure that i wanted to work there..also because it was kind of far away to drive..the woman kept calling me. it was bizarre. so last night i'm watching the 11 pm news..they start talking about this local agency that is a scam..and sure enough it was this place..turns out they do nothing with sports agencies or advertising..but people would end up selling rugs or something door to door..apparently the newscaster said that most people who started there only lasted a day because they knew something was wrong. the newsperson went undercover acting as if they were going on an interview and those people fed them so many lies. Then sure enough on the television was the girl that i talked to..i def. recognized that voice. i KNEW it was shady. I'm so glad that I followed up gut and didn't go to the interview. I was in shock..i think i had my mouth open for the whole time they were doing the investigation.

message 2019: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Jamie, I don't even bother contacting them even it sounds too good! Probably there are some true once between but not going to bother with the other once.

Wow, Jeane The last 3 places I've worked do check all references.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments yeah..Jeane..i definitely learned my lesson..funny thing..on another group..i told the story and a girl told me that her friend applied to the same place and realized it was shady! i'm so glad they got caught!

message 2024: by [deleted user] (new)

It scary how many people out their defraud the public

message 2025: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Emilee, really this is the first time for me. Funny is that I got out of the building at 3pm and one of the people that was between the references wrote me a mail around 3.25pm to tell me they contacted him!!!! They are fast!

message 2026: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) They must be really interested in you Jeane. What's the job?

message 2027: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I hope you get it Jeane!

message 2028: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeane I hope you get it. (crosses fingers)! It's a good sign if they are calling your references! :)

message 2029: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I really waaaant this job. I hope it doesn't bring bad luck that my main reference got a missing call, didn't know the number so didn't call....hope it wasn't the company. I might have an interview for a different company monday but am hoping for the one I went thursday. They woud call within five days....
I t would be great and so near to where I live. Only about ten to fifteen minutes by bus and they give you a cheap bus ticket. daaaaaaaiiiiiii

message 2030: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeane: Send them a Thank you note and tell them how glad you were that they took time out of their busy day to interview you. Tell them that you are interested in the job and very impressed with the company. Everytime I go to an interview I do that, so far I've gotten the job each time. Fiona you should try it too!

message 2031: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I think if someone sent me a letter like that Emilee, I would certainly think about them. I'm not sure if I would be impressed though or think it was just a form letter sent to every job. Emilee - maybe you get the job because you personally impress (from this group you seem to have a really lovely personality) but maybe your ploy works.

message 2032: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I interview for my current job and I really appreciate a thank you letter or an email thanking me. What I despise is the candidates calling me to find out if the position has been filled, especially when I tell them at the end of the interview that they will be notified by HR to get an offer letter or a rejection letter.

GAHHHHH.

Although I am feeling a bit better. All those movies and spicy food have been working.

I think it was the chai frapp, or maybe the actual chai tea I had....it's all in the chai.

Fiona said: Cleaning is over rated. That's what children are for. what, like you dress them in old sweats, spray them with endust, and let them roll around on the floor... ; )

Quentin Crisp wrote that you just have to stop cleaning for a few years... after which time it never gets any worse, so you never have to clean again! My kind of thinking!! (My husband doesn't love it so much, but...)

Emilee, great news about your son!

Jeane: what the job update? Any news?

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Fiona, We Moms say things about our 22 year old daughters because we worry. But I usually wait until mine is not around...lol
I have a problem with my daughters boyfriend. He is 21 and can't get his drivers licence. In the US, we get ours when we are 15 or 16. He has been letting her drive him aroundd for the last 6 years. (yes, they have been together that liong!) No job really...

Oh well....enough of my rant. We Moms just like to fuss and rant about our kids because we love our kids. But I know my kid is not goung to read this so therefor I can say this..lol

Petra X (petra-x) You know the saying, what goes around comes around? Its TRUE! I'm so happy.
Years ago my bff was head of the PTA of the private American school our kids attended. My son was thrown out for being slow, needing to be documented and in a special school, having ADHD and needing a full-time teacher's aide. I fought this, I brought in the local UN rep even. While this fight was going on my bff didn't return my calls, our meetings for coffee ceased and but I was too busy to push the issue. Come the Christmas hol my bf came over from the UK and I went round to her house to introduce him. She cracked open the door and said that she had been trying to avoid this conversation, but I was so persona non grata at the school she couldn't do her job and be friends with me. Could we resume our friendship after our year was over? NO. Anyway she left her husband went to the US with the kids and sporadically visited. Now she has come back to live and my son (who graduated with honours from the local school and is doing his A levels) is doing judo with her husband who is the sensei. He is desperately looking for a home school teacher as his son has been thrown out of the same school for being disruptive (probably true), slow (probably untrue) etc etc and his wife has asked him to ask me if I know anyone who does home-schooling!

Maybe I shouldn't but I am CROWING. No, I'm not her friend and she can teach him herself, she has several degrees and never had a paying job for one day in her life.

I just had to share :-)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Petra, You have a right to brag on youyr son!! And how dare this woman!! To think she would have the neerve.

Crow loud and crow strong girl!!!

message 2044: by [deleted user] (new)

Sue give her time. I made 2 mistakes-married two wrong guys. My parents stayed out of it even though it killed them. The second guy wasn't bad until he had affairs. It's hard because sometimes we put rose covered glasses on to see the world & forget that there is so much more in the world.

Petra: congrats for you son! I am sure he will get a masters or doctoral degree then he can rub it in the schools face. I know because my Brother had ADD/LDD in school. In highschool he asked his special ed teacher to write him a letter of recommendation for college. She said why you won't make it through a simple gym class in college. Two years ago my brother graduated with his masters degree in Engineering and makes about $30,000 more than this teacher does. My brother didn't rub it in her face but my mom did! She sent the teacher a graduation announcement with a nice little note that she should judge & discourage her students.

Fiona: It's hard living at home when you are an adult. Grin and bear it. It's hard because Mom's worry it doesn't justify it. I remember having a long talk with my dad. I survived I know you can too. And look at your cool book buddies! We all love U!

message 2045: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, you have to get teh calcium between ages 4-16 after that it just helps slow the process.

My daughter tells me she'll just lay out and get the calcium from the sun. which it gives off a little but then I tell her she'll get skin cancer.

Us mom's can't live with us or without us.

I really have to go fold laundry. Bah!

I should also eat breakfast since it's getting to be afternoon.

message 2047: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Emilee, I should know the latest by Thusrday and will jsut hope and wait. Writing them...don't know for sure if they would like that. Never heard someone doing it befor knowing if they got the job or not and they will call. When they call, I do thank them no matter what the answer was. But now...would feel a bit pushy. They were enthousiastic ad I showed them too that I was enthousiastic. They evne let me stay for half an hour with someone to see what they do and how things go. Will see. Maybe I will have another interview monday afternoon for a different company, but will only know by monday morning.

hayes, i saw images of Rome and the rest of Italy...hope next week the weather will be a bit better. Where in Rome do you live?

Fiona, sit up!!!!! You know I used to have always headaches and my back together with my shoulders and neck would hurt. Till I visted my first physiotherapist when I was eleven. He told me to sit up like your head would be held up by someyhing from the ceiling, not sit with a pillow behind your back and keep your shoulders back...for a year I tried and only did it when I thought about it, but at least I started to do it and never sat with a pillow behind my back anymore. Now I find it more difficult to let my body like collapse down and so. When I do fel like i do it, it makes me feel like I am not sittin comfortable. I prefer sitting up now. Just try to do it whenever you think about it and use thethings that can help you, like sit with your abck against a wall (when sitting for instance on your bed), against the chair...yes also with you bum touching the wall or the chair otherwise it isn't really straight sitting.

message 2048: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeane: if they let you stay that's a very good sign! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

message 2049: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeane: 9 pages into Moby Dick! I really need to finish some of the other books I'm reading but at least it will count towards my book of 700 pages if I get it done during the Winter.

message 2050: by [deleted user] (new)

I slump a lot to but I also wiggle!

Fiona are you going to join in the Moby Dick reading?
