Laura (apenandzen) You are so right! You were just getting ready to shake up my whole world with that one!

(Hey if you knew the story - I've eliminated alcohol, cigarettes (well that was long ago), white sugar and white flour, Triscuits (whole wheat) and c.c. is about all I have left!)

message 1552: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Yes. Think about what American foods you might like to try. I still have to send you that book, and I'd like to include some other stuff since I have to send a box anyhow. Tell me what you like. Do you prefer sweet foods to salty?

message 1553: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Do you switch back & forth from salty to sweet when you're PMSing like I do?

message 1554: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) We just keep scarin' those guys away, huh??

:)

Well off to experience my family some before bed. LOL

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments And yes, I've been nanoing. But not having an actual life. You don't have to worry about that.

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hows Nano going Jessica?

message 1559: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Stagnant. But not for lack of ideas, I'm just lazy.

message 1560: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments It's hard, I tell you. I don't blame you AT ALL.

message 1561: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments It's hard to write this much in such a short amount of time. I prefer to write when the mood strikes me.

message 1562: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I agree.

But I'm almost finished, no quitting now!

message 1563: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay-I leave for 3 hours and come back to 62 posts. How will I ever get caught up?

message 1564: by [deleted user] (new)

Jessica I know how you feel. I hate going to work because I know that I will be excessively behind. I just wish I could get paid to chat on GR all day. What a nice job that would be.

message 1565: by [deleted user] (new)

Emma: Glad your back.

message 1566: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay just online babbling to myself. La de da!!!

message 1567: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Did somebody say clotted cream? All I can get out here are those little bottles of Double Devon Clotted Cream or a can of Nestle's put in the fridge. Not the same. Scones, jam and clotted cream. Its kind of like a dream....

Laura clotted cream (other than consistency) is absolutely nothing like cream cheese.

Braks I Love Beans Song

message 1569: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments Another one of my favorite Brak songs:

Don't Touch Me

message 1570: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I like beans too. I live on chick peas and lentils. I don't like the effect though and no one else does either.

message 1571: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments lmao... my favorite part of that song:

"When I eat beans, I sit in my own little cloud -- Nobody comes to visit me, in my little cloud...I don't know why, maybe it's 'cause I'm cuttin' muffins...

message 1572: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I hate all beans.

I think English "digestive biscuits" are like our shortbread cookies. I know their biscuits are our cookies.

Our bisciuts are light and fluffy that are so good with butter and honey, or jam, or syrup. yummy...

Now I am hungry...

But not for beans.

message 1573: by Petra X (last edited Nov 18, 2008 08:43PM) (new)

Petra X (petra-x) lol@Darla

American biscuits are more like plain English scones but only like, not identical. Shortbread cookies in the US are identical to shortbread in the UK; they don't resemble digestive biscuits at all. The closest the US has to digestives is Graham crackers, not the same but very similar.

Biscuits and cookies aren't the same at all. A biscuit (in the UK) is hard and often crunchy. Cookies tend to be soft and often chewy.

One thing I miss is chip butties. There is nothing like a chip butty made with doorstep bread and Heinz ketchup and thick-sliced golden chips.

message 1574: by [deleted user] (new)

We just drink our tea. I usually go stron with teh tee sometimes I add honey. But a lot of Americans perfer coffee.

My Honors English teacher in High School actually brought us English Biscuits. I actually know what they are. Our cookies are excessively sweet usually.

It's funny how different the world is on food.

message 1575: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I don't like American tea very much. Its made with hot water not boiling and the tea bags themselves are not good strong Indian tea. I like my tea made in a pot and with milk not lemon. However Americans make wonderful coffee, the best.

What I want to know is why do Americans ask if you want 'sugar and cream' with tea or coffee when they mean sugar and milk?

message 1576: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Sometimes, it is cream. Or at least, half cream half milk (half & half).

It is completely weird how different food is. Why can't the same word at least mean the same thing? This I don't understand.

Petra, is your barbie w/curlers today?

message 1577: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Sorry - I just did a close up. Flowers. Hmm. Nice look!

message 1578: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Gemma - Of course you've been missed, you're a staple around here!

Heather - How's EoE coming along? I decided to abandon Curious in favor of History of Love and Book Thief.

message 1579: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Curious just seemed okay. Not sure if I'll keep on w/it because of the others waiting. I would if i had nothing else to read tho.

Fiona - I thought you'd be gone for quite awhile! That was quick. And you saw a sheep? Nice! Aren't they pretty common in England tho (at least the rural parts)?

message 1580: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) PS - Is England and Great Britain the same thing?

message 1581: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) That's it. It's the UK that adds - but only Northern Ireland? Not all of Ireland?

You're right. So confusing!

I hope Jeane is doing well w/her move. I guess I should probably actually get something done today.

BAH

message 1582: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) That should never happen Fiona!

*curses Amazon*

message 1583: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) YAY 36 more pages!!!!

I'm so excited!

That's OK I just checked in to update GR to show the 3 books I am now reading.

message 1584: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) If you like wwii then you'll love Guernsey Fiona!

*grins from ear to ear*

message 1585: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) LOL Fiona

I used to dog ear when I was younger, now it just turns my stomach. Book abuse!

message 1586: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Very good point, good point!

message 1587: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I thought I dogeared my books and wrote on here as much but then I looked at them and realised that I actually put the jacket flap in the hardbacks and its only the paperbacks I dogear.

message 1588: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I take jacket flaps off while reading, to keep them in good shape.

Jeez I never thought I was OCD before, might have to reconsider that one.

message 1589: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I used to take some of the jackets off but they curl so much in the tropical humidity they look really bad when I put them back on. I could put them under a heavy book to start with but then I'd have to remember which one and that's a lot of action.
