Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Thanks....but to make it even more confussing: Dutch isn't spoken only by the Dutch. Belgians speak it too and no it isn't called Belgian. :-)

Laura (apenandzen) Isn't it jumping rope in pairs?

My daughter and her friends go English sometimes w/their accents, and she calls me Muttie (not sure of the spelling) I don't see that on effingpot.com, but it does mean Mom, right (not blasted bee-och from hell or something)???

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Fiona, what about that job interview? Did you go already?

message 1030: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow. I haven't been online for a while and I missed a lot!

thanks for the link Fiona! I did know however about fanny because my friend went to England and wore her "fanny pack". Needless to say the guy at the airport turned beet red!

Like the new eye Fiona!

I am really hungry after catching up on this thread. No McDonalds pancakes. They are rubbery-in my opinion. I don't like McDonald's there food is just gross!

message 1031: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Fiona, if he is on this site, then it's a good start because you don't come here if you don't love books! But I would hate to have my boss participating here...I think.

What is the job? Good luck!!!!1

message 1032: by [deleted user] (new)

Good luck on the Job.

Now you made me hungry for bacon! I guess that is what's for breakfast!

I don't like much fast food. I do however like Wendy's usually get the baked potato. That sounds good covered in cheese! I am so hungry!!!!

message 1033: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments well Fiona, as you already volunteer you do have a chance...just go there(when the guy is back) adn do the interview thinking like it can only go better. You don't ahve a job now, so not getting it doesn't make it worse. And you are doing them a favour!! :-)))

wanna apply also for other kinds of jobs or not?

message 1034: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Fanny-pack, Emilee, that's funny. Another one not to say is 'panties'. Only little girls perhaps the wrong sort of girls where those. Everyone else goes to Marks and Sparks and wears knickers. Also, a wife beater in the US is hopefully in prison in the UK. Its called a vest if its underwear or tank top if its not there.

Where I live the language is a mixture of US/UK English just like TNBBC.

message 1035: by [deleted user] (new)

It's funny how language evolves. In college I took a linguistic class and we had someone from Canada and a few people from the east coast (College was on the West Coast). There were a lot of differences in simple ways to say things or refer to objects. East of the Mississipi refers to soft drink as Soda, West it's Pop or Coke. They way people referr to Mom is different too.

We could almost do a thread on different meanings of words!

message 1036: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Oh, the soda/pop debate. I'm from Michigan and it's POP. When my aunt from Maryland was visiting us and asked for a soda, my friend and I looked at her like she was crazy!

message 1037: by JG (Introverted Reader) (last edited Nov 08, 2008 09:19AM) (new)

JG (Introverted Reader) I'm very Southern, my husband is Cuban-American (well, dad is Cuban, mom is American). He has a teeny tiny Spanish accent, but the longer he lives here, and the longer he works with good ol' boys, the more Southern his speech gets. It's pretty funny sometimes!

Here's a fun little quiz I've taken before to see how Southern your speech is!

http://www.alphadictionary.com/articl...

I'm 68% Dixie, but I completely disagree that you'uns is only used in Pennsylvania. Maybe it's an Appalachian thing. We say it all the time in the mountains of NC.

message 1038: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Did someone say cheese??

<<>>

We'll try not to hog up this thread today, sorry for everyone who had to read our personal chat room yesterday..

:)

message 1039: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments :-)))))

cheeeeese is calling someone

By the way Laura, do you think many noticed? when I watched who was online...well let's say that not many other people were active...:-)

message 1040: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Well if they noticed, I hope they were amused

;)

OMG my cheese obsession has gotten worse. If it weren't for borderline cholesterol, I think I would have a big block of cheddar for a heart.

Oh well, at least I'll die w/a big cheesy smile on my face!

message 1041: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments ok, so I have to ask....

Has anyone here ever even heard of Rusted Root? When I got my tickets I was so excited and any time I said anything to anybody, they had no idea who I was talking about.

Am I the lone weirdo? And if I am.... if you're open to different things, go search them on youtube... I'm bound and determined that I will not be the only person who knows who they are :)~

JG (Introverted Reader) I think I've heard of them. If I'm thinking of the right group I heard one song of theirs a long time ago and I did like it.

message 1043: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments I stayed up till three yesterday night, becoming addicted to Rebecca. Each time I finished a chapter, I told myself I'd sleep at the end of the next one but .....

message 1044: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Ken!

I just ate pizza too. My youngest had his B-day party. It was actually decent cheese pizza, for a bowling alley.

I've never heard of Rusted Root but do you know if they are on you tube?

message 1045: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Hey Ken

<<< pinching Ken's cheeks in the cyber-way >>>

Glad to have you back! I know I keep saying it, but it bears repeating ;)

message 1046: by [deleted user] (new)

I would probably like Rusted Root. I bet my brother has heard of them!

I am debating against watching a movie or reading. I have about 2 hours before I have to pick kids up from play practice. It's so nice & quiet. So rare on a saturday!

message 1047: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I think it's his last name Fiona.

Oh & check your inbox.

YOU CAN DO IT!

YES YOU CAN!

message 1050: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Really - you two need to motivate each other and cover each other's backs through November. If anyone can smash your bloody writer's block, Fiona, it's GEmma!
