Yeah! It's Friday! I'm done with work for the week!!!!

message 802: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Laura - thanks. Yes I'm doing ok. There wasn't much of a blow. In fact I left my windows open all night as there wasn't any current for a fan and slept through the hurricane. My windows faced NNE which is where the hurricane was headed so I didn't even get much of a breeze but no current for 24 hours.

Jackie - I don't know Aguadilla or the W of Puert Rico at all. I wish I did. I don't suppose that part of the island got even a small blow in Omar as it was such a tiny little hurricane. I know Bayamon because its so close to San Juan but mostly I know Fajardo as I used to sail down on Tuesday's for work. I go to San Juan three or four times a year though. Lovely place. I love the island.

rebecca j (technophobe) | 6029 comments OK Petra, now I have island envy! Its gloomy here, and a warm sunny beach sounds so inviting!

message 804: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I am pissed! I was going to go see BLINDNESS today but it has already left our theater. My boys are going to go spend the night with some friends so I had talked my hubby into taking me to see a movie. Now I guess he is going to want to see a stupid one!!!

message 805: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
Oh No Ann, that sucks. It left the theater pretty quickly didnt it? Our smaller ones keep films for at least three weeks, the larger ones keep them for much longer....

message 806: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Yeah, but I guess I will have to wait for it to come to video. I guess that way, I can pause it if it gets to sad, or graphic.
On a better note, my husband took me to Outback to eat. It was good!! I love the coconut shrimp! Yummy..

message 807: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Mmm...Outback, that's my favorite restaurant. I love the Alice Springs chicken and their bleu cheese chopped salad.

message 808: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Ooh I love EVERYTHING at Outback, ESPECIALLY the chocolate volcano! OOOOOOhhh steak - almost as good as a crisply roasted weenie.

!!

message 809: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Outback also has some of the best broccoli I've ever had.

message 810: by [deleted user] (new)

Now, I'm hungry for steaks. I love the steaks at outback.

message 811: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments We ate the blooming oinion, the coconut shrimp, and the alice springs chicen quesidilla. Yummy!!!

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh no...your making me hungry. Very hungry.

message 813: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I'm eating lentil soup with chick peas and (artificial) bacon bits right now. Its kind of tasty but I'd love a pizza. I wonder which two pizza toppings are the most popular?

message 814: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I am making some home-made chicken and dumplings with cornbread! southern style! Yummy! I was not born here in the South but I am learning how to cook. lol

I'm glad I'm not hungry right now, I'd be running to the kitchen!

I think it is the food thread! I am actually not hungry right now which is rather amazing.

message 821: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I am in Ashville NC with my husband and my boys. We are going to the Biltmore Estates tomorrow and I am so excited! My husband and I came here on our 1 year aniversary, and this is the first time for the boys. I just spendt an hour reading by the indoor pool while they swam... This is the life!

JG (Introverted Reader) You're in my backyard, Ann! You picked a perfect time to visit. We're having a beautiful fall this year. But I hope it doesn't rain on you tomorrow.

message 823: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments How awesome Ann!
Biltmore is about 2 hours from us. I have been there a few times but not in a while.
Sounds like you are having a great time!
Have you ever been to the Grove Park Inn?
They have an awesome Thanksgiving/X-mas buffet.
And it has beautiful grounds.

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Stopstopstop.....it has been in my mind since I left a week ago and now that I am back....hmmm in between cleaning up, washing te clothes, empty my luggage, get through all the e-mails...I am trying to read all the threads that have been posted during my time away.....

message 825: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome back Jeane! It will take more then 2 hrs!

message 826: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) That sounds beautiful, Ann. A neighbor went there a couple of years ago and had so many great things to say about it. Hope you enjoy it!

message 827: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments I'm sorry. I can't be off my computer and GR for that long. Can you tell I'm addicted to GR?

message 828: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Jeane!
You are so funny!
I couldn't wait to sign on to see what was happening on TNBBC.
I've been gone all day!

JG (Introverted Reader) I've never done the buffet at The Grove Park Inn, but we always enjoy checking out the gingerbread houses at Christmas. It's a national competition. I believe the winner appears on Today or Good Morning America. The Food Network has also filmed a gingerbread house competition there. It is a beautiful place to go.

message 830: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I found a sollution yesterday: I just packed out everything, put all the clothes in the washing machine so that was out of my way and all the rest I put on my big bag at the end of my bed. So i spent the rest of the day with breaks (thanks to a headache) on GR and my mail and reading, and for now I just have to watch that it all keeps in balance....
it is all coming back in order here on the site...

message 831: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments We just got back from a wonderful weekend. We had beautiful weather and saw some gorgeous colorful leaves. The Biltmore House was fantastic!
I am now catching up with Good reads. I have been reading MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA and loving it. I don't want it to end!

message 832: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Glad you had a good time, Ann! We have to take that trip - I bet it was gorgeous w/the leaves.

message 833: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments This whole having a job at Borders thing is not helping my book addiction. It's almost like I feel guilty if I leave work without buying a book!

message 834: by [deleted user] (new)

Jessica: I would have the same problem. Boy the self control I would lack.

message 835: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I would love a job at a bookstore... it would be heaven to be around all those books all day long...sigh...

message 836: by Petra X (last edited Oct 26, 2008 08:13PM) (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I have a bookshop on a small island in the Caribbean :-) Wanna come and work for me? Problem is there isn't much money in it. My clerk doesn't buy books much, but she reads them! So what do I say when I catch her, "Is it any good?" (There's not a lot of business or work on a small island).

message 837: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Petra, that sounds like a great idea!! Books and nice warm weather :)

message 838: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I thought that too. Shame about the lack of money, eh?

message 839: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments I'll be in the Caribbean next fall (on a cruise)
What's the name of your store Petra?
I'll try and visit when we are there.

message 840: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) What islands are you going to, Kellie?

So, When I went to bed last nite, it was raining/snowing but not sticking and I was hoping it would just let up and go away.

I wake up this morning and see the ground completely covered in the white stuff and still coming down. Pooooop!

Its like a winter wonderland out there. For some reason they didnt close school (i think it should be mandatory to close school on the first real snow day) so I decided to keep the boys home. Its still coming down pretty good too....

They are excited and cant wait to outside later to play in it. I will be watching from the window, wrapped in a blanket and nice and warm... I personally hate the shit!

message 842: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments St. Thomas, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.
There is one other one but I can't remember....
I bet you aren't on any of these islands are you....bummer :(

message 843: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Ahhhh...Lori.
I grew up in Baldwinsville NY which is about 30 miles south of Lake Ontario. I have experienced probably 10 life times worth of snow! Since I've moved to NC, the only time I miss it is around X-mas time. Maybe for a day!
Kids love it though. I did have fun as a kid. But as an adult, I just can't tolerate the cold anymore.

message 844: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Lori, it is snowing over there???!!!!! Send some to me!!! I know being in Italy I will see snow but by the time it comes I might not be here anymore. and as I lived always in the North of Belgium, I practically never got snow or like 3cm and it dissapeared after one day...

message 845: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
Jeane ,you are more than welcome to fly over here and take it all back with you. It is still coming down.... but the funny thing is, my hubby is at work about 10 minutes from here, down the mountain and he has no snow whatsoever....
I hate it
I hate it
I hate it

message 846: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I love it
I love it
I love it

besides if I decide to go to work with elegant clothes and have high heels(which I practically enver wear) and I discover it snowed....noooo I love it..I will just hate myself for putting on 'high' heels

snow day 08

there is nothing nice about this tho.....
well, maybe, the kids are out there playing it in at the moment, and that keeps them from fighting in here.. haa haa

message 848: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) That is sooooo pretty. A real winter wonderland, to me its absolutely magical. Not that I'd want to be there you understand. I'm going to the beach later for a pina colada at sunset. When I'm sipping it I'll think of you and hot toddies.

message 849: by Karlene (new)

Karlene Staves (karlenestaves) I really wish it was Friday today instead of Tuesday!!!!! I want to sit at home and read....I started the Harry Potter series again, and I just can't stop thinking about it....Aaargh!!!!!!!!

message 850: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Lori!! Are you kidding me??!! I can't wait to show my boys this picture! We never get snow. If we do, its in Feb. for maybe 1 or 2 days and everything shuts down. When we go trick or treatin' friday night, it is supposed to be around 55-60! I will be thinking of ya'll!!
