Debra Ullrick | 64 comments If you would like a chance to win a free copy of my story, The Unexpected Bride, then post a comment here, telling me why, and I will pick a winner on Friday.

Here's the back cover blurb:

After the disaster of his first marriage, Haydon Bowen has no intention of marrying again. Unfortunately, his brother has some intentions of his own, and plans to see to it that Haydon finds happiness once more. So he answers a "groom wanted" advertisement—in Haydon's name—and sends Haydon to meet his new bride at the stagecoach stop!

For beautiful, cultured Rainelle Devonwood, any dangers she may face in the Idaho Territories are preferable to staying with her abusive brother. So even when Rainee learns she's a mistakenly ordered bride, she won't let Haydon drive her away. She's up to the challenge of life on the difficult, demanding frontier...and the great challenge of opening Haydon's heart again.

Thank you!

Debra Ullrick

Judy I enjoy historicals and really enjoy books with mail order brides. I cannot fathom how that must have been to walk into a world of not knowing who you would marry and it seems they usually were going to a part of the country they have never been. Or in some of the books I read, into a whole new country.

I have not read any of your other books but The Bride Wore Coveralls looks like a good read as well.

Debra Ullrick | 64 comments I, too, love mail order bride stories. That's why I write them. I can't imagine what it was like for those women who married a complete stranger. How desperate they must have been. It reminds me of Jane Austen's stories and how they married for money and titles etc. I used to think...how awful and how shallow. But, then when I saw a documentary on the Edwardian period and how hard those servants had to work, how many hours (16 a day), and how hard jobs were to come by, I understand why money was so important back then. The lack of it would have been horrific. But, give me love over money any day. What can I say, I'm a hopeless romantic. *smiling*

message 4: by Judy (new)

Judy I read a really good Heartsong about a mail order bride from Russia. She had a daughter and they were starving. The husband in the US would be her saving grace. From Russia With Love by Colleen Coble.

message 5: by Debra (new)

Debra Ullrick | 64 comments I love colleen's books. Thanks for telling me about it. I'll have to see if I can find a copy. If you know of anymore really good mail order bride stories, I would love to hear about them. They're my favorite.

Thanks again!

message 6: by Paula-O (new)

Paula-O (kyflo130) | 2257 comments Debra, I have read this book and you are a good story teller, really liked the character Rainey, it was interesting to watch the ways that Haydon "tried" to not like this woman when he was more and more attracted to the woman she was almost from the beginning.

message 7: by Debra (new)

Debra Ullrick | 64 comments Ahhh. Thank you so much, Paula, for your kind words. You blessed my socks off with them.

message 8: by Ausjenny (new)
