When I write, I get more stuff out, but I've also liked the laptop better.

Bets (betsdavies) | 85 comments If I am near my computer, I usually journal into my computer. I can type faster than I can write. If I am not near my computer, I carry around small, nice quality blank books to scribble in.

message 3: by rachel (new)

rachel i think comp is better for writing on cuz i type a lot faster than when i write w/ pencil

message 4: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments I write with both. For free writes and brainstorming i like pens and pencils, but i can type faster on the computer than i can write. Most poetry i create is done in pencil. It just depends what i am doing or what is handy.

I do agree there^

message 6: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) Yeah, I have my own diary on my old lap-top and write my daily diary entries..except if someone finds out that I have one and maybe even reads it..I would be officially scorned and mocked by who-ever reads it.

I don't remember to fill it in and usually give up after the first few days!

message 8: by Christina (new)

Christina (EricaJae) | 6 comments I prefer computers. It's faster to type and if you make a mistake you can fix it in seconds. And you can also embellish the pages faster, pictures, different texts and scripts change the background colors...

That depends on your computer!

message 10: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) I agree with Christina. It is more easy and plus I can chose all sorts of words and stuff like that and I don't especially like my hand-writing either.

I can understand that aspect mine looks like a spider crawled accross the paper with a pen!

message 12: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) That's a funny way of talking about your handwriting.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Anna wrote: "That's a funny way of talking about your handwriting."

I have an RSI injury so my writing starts off okay and progresses to unreadable as the pain sets it, I have wrist supports and an ergonomic key board for when I type so providing I don't over indulge at one sitting I'm fine.

message 14: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Jackson (kdstorm) | 5 comments I prefer handwriting a journal/diary in a notebook over a computer. I enjoy the feel of a pen in my hand connecting to paper. Besides my handwriting is so awful that no one can read it. :)

message 15: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) I am sorry about that...I shouldn't have written that...sorry, please forgive me Sarah?!

She is home now but in plaster and is exempt sport for 3 months at least and off school for 10 days.

Thanks she's fine today less pain and not so stressed to be confined to barracks on a day like today it has rained here all day I got soaked through twice!

That's good, minus the rain part. It finally quit raining here and is just cold.

That's why I like journals :) I like computers to write long prices though.

message 28: by 1luvbooks (new)

1luvbooks | 43 comments I could never keep a journal. I keep a rambling-thoughts, bad poetry, wouldn't-make-sense-to-anyone-who-isn't me thing in an ecojot journal.I'm not so good about "dear diary, today I....". I rant and stuff and write and complain.
As for creative writing; pencil and paper. I feel like I am less distracted and more creative that way. And there's nothing like the scraping sound of a pencil on a paper! :)

message 29: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments I could never journal on a regular basis either.

message 30: by Bakhtawar (new)

Bakhtawar I prefer pen and paper as it feels more comfortable and peaceful, I like keeping a diary and it stays with me most of the time so its really easy for me to vent up:)

Firestormkittycat I've had a diary ever since third grade (and I'm in 10th now), but I never wrote regularly till recently. Now, I've only missed one day this past month, and that was cuz I was too exhausted to do anything but fall into bed.

No I'm so rubbish I'd forget where I left it I am always losing my pen too. I think somewhere in my house there's a pen eating monster!

message 33: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Moorer (sherrithewriter) I love the computer but being married to a computer technician, I know that nothing electronic is sacred. I think that blogging is a great way to connect with others, but of course there are some things you don't want "out there." I recommend a combination of both. Do a blog for the interesting tidbits that you don't mind sharing with the world. Keep a handwritten journal or diary to name names and give the dirty details of the pain in the butt coworker, awful in-laws, etc.

Not that I'm admitting to whether this is the method I use. Because my last piece of advice is don't ever Ever EVER admit to keeping a handwritten journal or diary. Then they go crazy trying to find where you stash it. Tell them the blog is it and don't ever mention you have a written backup with the dirty details.

journal. in computers my writing erases to quickly and all it takes for it to wipe out my entire piece is something techonology made to kick our a** more THE BACKSPACE button. My advice to keep your brainstorms and rough copies in a journal but to keep final edits and cuts on a computer or hardrive.

Michal (binadaat) | 16 comments John wrote: "I write at 750words.com They give you badges!"
Yeah, me too! I like the badges. I recommend 750words.com!

I probably do better quality writing when I work with a pen and paper but for pure word-age and practice , I like to type at the computer.
I'm doing a challenge this month and interestingly enough, I 've composed all the stories at the computer except two.
That is the part about pen and paper I don't like: transcribing to the computer.

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments What is 750words.com ?

message 38: by Jen (new)

Jen | 51 comments I can't write on the computer!! Too many distractions. Pen and paper all the way.

message 39: by John (new)

John Hanson | 21 comments 750words.com is a place to write 750 words every day. It is totally private. They implement a badge system, so if you write for three days ina row you win a badge. After ten days in a row you win another. There are other challenges too such as writeing every day for a month, writing 50k words in a month (with no breaks), etc. It's not a rich website. You can't see other peoples' profiles or follow them unless you pay money. They do send a reminder email daily.

It's a place designed for writing whatever you wish to, but its purpose is to get you to write every day. I've written 189k words since I joined in October.

That's really neat, can you see someone else's writing if they allow you to?

No, absolutely not! :)

message 42: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments So it is a truly by yourself deal. I take it is more of a motivational thing then to get you to write then?

message 43: by John (last edited May 26, 2012 09:40AM) (new)

John Hanson | 21 comments If we want to be writers, we need to write. Too often I've gone a week where few words have hit pages. This site "forces" me to scribe words every day whether I feel like it or not.

Day after day after day can also be tedious. I now try various exercises and test out ideas. The last few days I've started writing stories off the cuff. Pick the first character and location that come into my head and write about them. I've takes random sentences from books and re-written them. I'll take the book I'm reading and try to emulate the author's style. atc ...

Here's my badges
http://750words.com/entries/share/169...

Please tell me if you can read my words. If so, I'll leave it! ;)

That's neat and not right now as I am a bit too unfocused to read something and give my opinion on it. Thank-you though and I may have to see about getting an account.

message 45: by L (new)

L I find that when i type on the computer i can be very slow and that i always initially handwrite my ideas on paper (draft). The final copy is then typed up and i have a notebook that contains details to hand; such as characters, plot ectetera which i can refer back to. x

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I type much faster than I type, so I prefer computer.

i think i need to use my good ol journal. i wrote my first novel there. and i am able to look at it whenever i want.....not just on a screen i can't take to restaurants , school or anywhere outdoors. And i don't bother using my phone to use my writing (bad experiences.)

message 49: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments Well I like the feature on my bf's laptop and on my tablet that makes it so I can carry it places but sometimes pen and paper is nice. Particularly when you want to write something and then get rid of it permently.
