I have to say, at first, I seriously hated this book. I expected Derek to die since he first pulled out a tissue. The story is kind of annoying, a girl gets a make over with plastic surgery and is suddenly gorgeous, then she meets a guy and falls in love. It was very dull, and I didn't like Beth at all. Then, during the last few chapters, I started really getting into it. It was so much more emotional than the rest of the book! By the end I had started bawling! I thought the ending was beautiful, and I have no idea why it got to me so much!! Anyone else feel the same way????

I loved it from the beginning! I thought it was so sad. I cried, and I had only cried from one other book before, and in both someone dies from a sickness. Might be a theme....... But I really loved it.

i just finished it and i loved it Derek,Beth ='( i loved all of theme i cried so bad at the end especially when his mom said goodbye " goodbye my Derek boy " one of my favorite that's for sure it reminded me a little bit of "if i stay" by Gayle foreman but however i really liked it =)

iLoved this book.! iCouldn't stop crying when iGot towards the end. Although Beth did annoy me throughout the novel in the beginning, but other than that iThought the book was great.

Loved the book!! I really cried at the end and i have a feeling that i will cry every time i reread it. I didn't care for beth too much. the book kind of sends he message that you need to become beautiful and it kind of annoyed me.

My favorite book! I say this everytime. I LOVED it! I do admit the beggining was slow and boring but then it was so amazing. I also did think Derek was sort of creepy but then I just loved him. I cried for about an hour because of the ending. Like someone else said, I didn't care for Beth too much either. She was so clingy and unrealistic. I liked her character more at the beggining when she had flaws and didn't look like a model. Derek, on the other hand, I loved. He was the best thing about this book, besides the plot itself. I just wanted to hug him whenever he coughed and he ran away. I kind of figured he was sick since the beggining. Gosh, I'm honestly rereading this 13000 more times! It was so beautiful! I cannot wait to buy this <3 Seriously deserves more recognition.

Didn't like the first half, absolutely loved the last half!! Cried like baby when Derek died. Then hated the last few pages because Beth suddenly is into Scott after she ignores him all throughout the book...

I read all of the comments and i absoulotely agree.
i hated beth through the whole book.It took me some time to figure out what was wrong with Derek(which i LOOVE)i think ths saddest part is that beth cried on scout -which i hate-and figured out that she didn't really loved-loved Derek ,just his image.
i read on the authors site that it is based on a true story which i then decided ro read-which doesn't happen a lot cuz i don't like to get to attached to a book-and it just increased my sympathy .every time i think about this book i want to burst into tears ,it happened to me only 2 other times :"the fault in our stars" and" 13 reasons why" and this book is added to my favourites books of all time.

i'm also expecting that it will be a sad ending..i thought i'm immune with books with ending like this.. and it wont affect me anymore..but when derek died, i felt very sad and i cried...and although i love the story i wont read it again..cause i dont want to feel again the kind of sadness i felt after reading it..(maybe someday i'll be able to read it again...)

and the best part is..the whole story actually took place in real life..the pictures in the end of the book made me really sad! loved the book.

I loved this book!!! I cried at the end of this book and I only cried about two other times from someone who dies in the Evernight Series and Vampire Academy Series. I think that making Derek base on a real character was even more sad. And how Beth, sometimes, thinks that all the things Meadow did to her, she just thought it was stupid because she thinks if anyone just looks pass the outer part of herself (Like Scott) people will accept her for she truly is. Not like what Colby did at the prom. She wants someone to look behind all the makeup like Derek did. Derek said he fell in love with her soul for her singing.

i loved this book i have not cried at the end of a book like this in a very long time. i stayed up all night reading, it was like 2 in the morning and i was in my bed crying from this book. and i loved it!

beth who?i loved derek's character,so beautifully portrayed.this book touched me in so many amazing ways.there's no point describing how i cried and cried and cried..(!!!!)then i read the dedication at the end of the book,in memory of matt,and i was crying again!!god,i kept hoping untill the end that derek doesn't die!!!all in all,a beautifull and special book!!!

i suspected he was sick but i was hopping for a happy ending this is the second to make cry ,the fault of our stars was the other, both have make me feel so much sadness and i was so glad when Beth was there to say goodbye
