If it's the former, search by title/author, click on the book, then click on 'editions' on the right side of the screen, then scroll through the list to see if the one you're holding is already in the database.
If you're trying to enter it manually, the system will take an entry without an ISBN, just enter as much information as you can from the book in your hand.
Hope this helps somewhat - Post again if I haven't answered your quesion. = )

and what do you do when it's a comby of poems by diffrent authors Who do you name as the author of the book??

Before you add it manually, please do a search and make sure it isn't already in the database.
To answer your question: the editor, if there is one, or if there is a specific person's name on the cover, use that as the primary name.
If no editor or author is on the cover/title page, list all the authors by name, starting with the first author. You can put the word "Contributor" in the 'role' field next to each author's name. If there are more than 30 author names, you can just enter it with the author name of "Various". That's the last resort though, because then the book is only searchable by the title, and it won't show up on any of the contributing author's pages on GR.
