Twilight has shifters and sparkling vampires.

Read the earlier posts. Plus, Harry Potter has the more traditionally mythological werewolves. And there really isn't a vampire in Harry Potter that I can recall.

Read the e...there really isn't a vampire in Harry Potter that I can recall. "

Of course there are vampires in harry potter. at slughorns christmas party theres one called sanguini.

Christine Well, yeah that's true. I guess I didn't make myself clear. It's just that vampires aren't like the sparkly, shallow creeps in Twilight.

I know, the vampires in twilight are gay. Twilight doesn't even have proper werewolves.

Christine So true! Harry Potter fans are always the intellectual ones. Twilight are the airheads.

I wonder why you were telling me this. I find all creatures in HP series awesome. I don't feel the same with Twilight.

Nurlely Romario wrote: "I know, the vampires in twilight are gay. "

Hahaha...as funny as it is, they are not gays. They will easily attract girls' attention though. Girls who love sparkling stuff...:)

Christine Twilight. An endless debate I'm becoming tired of.

i've seen all of these before, and with no excuse I'll say that every time someone uses Comic Sans for anything, a unicorn dies. I mean, if you're trying to make a point... just... just don't use Comic Sans (not you, Emily, I meant the person who wrote those stupid things)

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) house elves. DOBBY!

Valerie I have no idea why these books are compared. There are almost no similairities, only the fact they are hugely popular.

Harry Potter is probably more popular, though, since males and females both read and enjoy it, while Twilight caters to women and girls. Very few men who read it liked it. (and there's reasons why, and they all have o to with wish fullfillment.)

Yep, I've seen ignorant tweens who were a tad bit young to grow up with J.K's novels say that the author stole the name Black. xD It's rediculous.

IKR!

Nicholas What. I will never like Twilight

Kaleigh - Captain Bubbles ESTP(intj) Hey guys! I don't like Twilight either! Have you seen the preview for the next movie? I was disgusted!

Megan The only similarity I can see between Harry Potter & Twilight is that both series have reinvigorated 'reading' to young (and old!) people who don't have a natural love of books; and the difference is in 50 years time, Twilight will seem very 'dated' and probably long forgotten, whereas Harry Potter will be a timeless classic...

Murdering_Mozart The "Werewolf named Black" copying thing.

There is a multitude of problems with that statement.

1. Prisoner of Azkaban was published about six years before Twilight.

2. Sirius Black is an Animagus (not sure how that's spelt though), not a werewolf.

3. Sirius changes into a dog, not a wolf. A dog that is described more bear-like than wolf-like.

4. Sirius made himself like that, in Twilight the werewolves (which are actually shape-shifters)are genetic.

5. It's Remus Lupin who's the werewolf in this.

6. Remus was bitten.

I wish people would bother to pay attention to the books before they start spouting stuff about copying. I really do . . . although if they did we wouldn't be having this entertaining discussion, I suppose.

Christine @Murdering_Mozart is obviously a genius everyone

AgCl what the, HP doesn't even deserve to be compared with Twilight at all...and please those Twihards or whatever they call themselves who doesn't seem to have known about the concept of TIME, ever heard about publishing/release date?

Sharon Alex wrote: "Before you start comparing Harry Potter and Twilight..."

You're kidding, right? I've read both. Not only are the stories, themes, and characters completely different, but Rowling actually writes well and Meyer is a hack.

message 122: by Julia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Julia I think there's only one difference that really matters:
Twilight sucks. Harry Potter is good.

I really don't see how anything else here matters.

Christine I agree.

Julia Kam wrote: "i just read all the comments, and realized...there hasnt been even ONE twilight fan try to defend their book. I guess their too wimpy to try...learning something from Bella, i suppose."

Yeah, but this thread is also posted in a Harry Potter forum. It might have slightly different results if it was posted in a Twilight forum. (I somehow doubt it) but it might.

Austen Clayton At a conference, Stephanie Meyer said: "The god of writing sent me to Earth to show people how to write" when JK Rowling heard this she looked at the ground, puzzled, and said, "I didn't send anyone."

Georgia I think one of the reasons why there compared so much is because of the actor that played both Cedric and Edward

Harshi Hp is next to Bible. I worship Rowling. I hate Meyer's 2nd book. Who cares if a silly girl shifts from a vampire to a werewolf?

message 130: by Mary (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mary I know! Comparing these books is like comparing chocolate and brusselsprouts! The only thing they have in common is that they're both fantasy novels. HP characters don't normally care about romantic relationships, but romance is the only point of Twilight. I'd also mention the dramatic difference in main characters, but that's a different topic.

Christine Don't care about romantic relationships? Harry Potter is very much about romance, however it remembers that NOT ALL THAT MATTERS IN LIFE IS ROMANCE and focuses on, oh I don't know, some other meaningful things and is dynamic,

message 132: by Mary (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mary I'm focusing on this book specifically, since that's where this discussion comes from. I just meant, like, Edward and Bella relationships are mostly nonexistent in HP. That's why HP is such an important part of my life.
