Kara (sterlink) | 73 comments This is a thread for discussion of the book up through Chapter 10.

Please be considerate with marking spoilers, so those who have not read quite this far can still discuss earlier chapters.

Kara (sterlink) | 73 comments Chapter 7: Admissions

I really enjoyed Rothfuss's take on (view spoiler)

Then later, at his room in the inn, the brief scene with Auri made me tear up. (I'm a sucker).

Chapter 8: Questions

LOL. Oh Elodin, you old shit. (view spoiler) When will Kvothe learn! I loved this!

Helen Totally agree with this, I cried and laughed in the appropriate places. I do like Auri, I'd like to find out more about her.

You're not the only one. I had been listening to the audio book on my way home from work and hit this scene just as I got home. I came into the house with tears streaming down my face. My husband thought I had gotten into an accident on the way home or been fired or something. :D

Absolutely. I haven't found many authors that can create such strong emotional reactions. The two examples Kara quoted are like a one-two punch - first the tears with the beautiful scene with Auri, and then Elodin's "You're still not asking the right question" which had me in stitches.

Helen It's easy to forget how young Kvothe is at university and how he has had to care for himself since being a young child after such a tragedy. It was nice to see this glimpse albeit heart-rending.
