Jordan I thought the book was excellent and very emotional. However the ending was a bit rushed and not completely explained. I really liked the book though.

That's exactly how I felt. It would have been nice if Horowitz would have expounded a bit more...it felt like he wanted to fit too many important events into not enough pages. I would have loved it if Horowitz had taken the time to explain things more...Alex endured quite a lot of strife, and changed as a person because of it. This "new Alex" wasn't nearly as developed as he could have been. (Still, I enjoyed the book.)

Fedor Garmatyuk just finished the last book. why was Alex such an emotionless bastard. one second hes passed out because his "mother" died, the next he is hatching a plot to save himself and kill more people. Later he basically kills himself and then "is making a fast recovery". Ultimately the most disappointing end to a book ever, he should have died with some dignity.

Jing i finished the book during Christmas, so Horowitz gave Jack's death as a christmas present kinda sucks right! I wish she wouldn't die and continue to live with Alex, and go to America instead! That would have been a better ending. I hope one day Horowitz decides to change the ending of "Scorpia Rising" into "Better Scorpia Rising".

Abby I know, the ending was rushed. I have written a book (not published...yet) and everyone who has read it has told me its rushed at the end. Sometimes it just happens. Horrowitz should've expounded more on what happened after Alex had to kill his clone. Like if Alexa had anything to say to anyone about it. The ending should've been drawn out more, but some books are good on a fast ending. It leaves you with...I don't know...knowing the book or series is done. There are always questions left unanswered though.

Yes, I have heard about Yassen as well. I felt that Scorpia Rising wasn't up to normal AR standards, and sometimes I wish authors would just leave the series alone already. Oh, and I didn't really like Sabina either... she annoys me a lot.
I also didn't like that Alex actually shot someone. I think Mr. Horowitz crossed a line.

And FYI y'all, Jack didn't really die. Don't know how, but she got away. She's gonna find Alex in about six months.

Rheannon Elise I liked Jack, but I'm kinda glad she died. It just kinda fit in the book really well and actully I expected her to die way before she actully did.

Bella Watson I like the book and I noticed a lot of things I haven't really took a huge interest in. First off this is one of the only books i've ever read with the villians point of view which feels really fresh because you know how they feel and think. The death of Jack was really sad to me I expected her to somehow live even though she didn't. I kept on reading people saying that they felt she shouldn't have died because it was totally unecassary, but that exactly it! It was put because it shows just how nothing is fair in Alex's world. Did his parents really have to be killed on a planned vacation? No. Did he really have to be illegally turned into a spy? NO, and thats exactly the point Horowitz seems to be trying to make. Alex's life is unfair, he just has to deal with it. Which seriously sucks because he was being forced into being part of some stupid spy game. What I like particularly about this book was that unlike all the other books in the series it focused more on emotional pain than on physical pain, which is just as strong and maybe even worse for some people. It is shown just how important Jack is in the book. Her death was huge because she was almost all Alex had left. In the end Alex wasn't injured on the outside. but on the inside which was shown to be a lot worse because not only was he forced to do cold-blooded things, but he was also utterly broken and left with the guilt of watching Jack die. All in all I thought Scorpia rising was a great ending and that Horowitz proved a great point. Alex will slowly start to heal and the spy game will be over. The End.

Aisha Vadia when jack died,i cried an then i kept expecting her to come bac like she survived somehow

Bella Watson Me too!! I thought she might've jumped out of the van or something!! I just couldn't bring myself to believe it, considering that we had a glimpse if her point of view right before she died.

Dylan Kortan I wish there was another book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 77: by BJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

BJ In my opinion, I didn't expect the ending to be like that. It feels like there's going to be another book, like an epilogue coming out soon or something like that. Just kind of like Alex's whereabouts after the ending of the book.

I absolutely agree. And we all know that modern YA authors just can't drop their little pet series. (I'm talking to you, Mr. Riordan!)

Dylan Kortan Rick R is still writeing the percy jackson series

I love your rendition of the book I thought what you wrote was really cool.
But I thought it would be a lot better if Sabina died instead of jack. But I know this wouldn't happen as Horowitz said that he would never kill children in his books.
But the whole living with Sabina is really crepy. I mean what if they break up or something?
I was thinking why couldn't he live with his friend Tom Harris or James ?

Bella Watson That is SO true. It's a bit strange how Alex is going to have to live with his probably future girlfriend. Well, only Horowitz will know the reasons for his actions, but I'm guessing that maybe he had Alex move in with Sabina to leave some type if big impression on the readers. I don't know....you can never tell with authors...

Rachel Jackson And don't you think it was cruel of Alan Blunt to send the sniper to Alex's school! I blame him for all the physical and mental torture Alex goes through ( especially in this book). I mean Mr Blunt basically killed Jack.

Bella Watson I absolutely agree with you on that. Allan Blunt is such an (insert word of your choice)! I hope that he at least had the decency to feel guilty because what he did wasn't right. I get that he wants to make his missions a success, but I feel as I'd he doesn't really care about the people at risk because if them. Obviously not, Alex is a living example of Blunt's uncaring human demeanor. All blunt cares about is getting the job done, and he doesn't care who's at risk. So yup, I totally agree with you on that.

Emily the people killed one of my favorite characters!

Austin it seems like he'd continue the series, but he doesn't
:(

Everything is left for the reader to make their own conclusions on the series

Aisha Vadia i wish there is another book,so we know what happens with sabina, like does he fit in in america

Bella Watson I'm guessing that Anthony Horowitz will probably make an extra book containing short stories of what happened. Maybe.

Rachel Jackson Ah yes the gentleman! He was really interesting and I thought Horowitz would elaborate on him later. Maybe he will write a short about him. But I love yassen and I really want to read about him!

Devan Reynolds Just so everyone knows i am sensitive and a bit of a cry baby but i cried when she died.

Rachel Jackson Jack dying was really sad. The fact that Alex had to see it, I mean the memory will stay with him forever.

Bella Watson I agree. Watching someone you love get murdered in an attempt to keep you safe? Now that's what I call pure torture.

Rachel Jackson I know and you can see the effect it had on Alex. I mean after Jack died he wasn't the same. Especially when he kills Julius Grief.

Bella Watson The scene where he killed Julius Grief gave me the shivers...

Jake Benouski same

Bella Watson Both Alex and Harry had crappy similar death-filled lives....I wonder who had it worse?

Rachel Jackson Alex probably. Alex was always on his own. Harry had Ron and Hermione and the rest of hogwarts. When Jack died in scorpia rising Alex had no one left ( except for Sabina but I don't like her that much). Even though Harry did experience a lot of deaths he had a lot of friends with him in the end.

Clara KJR I feel like this book had so much potential, but to be honest it was disappointing. I guessed from the blurb what would become of Smithers, and then it happened and we don't see him again for the rest of the story. What's that about?

I was really expecting him to turn up and save Jack. I actually didn't believe what happened to Jack until Alex went back to the burnt out car.

I was shocked, I was so sure that it wasn't true that I felt cheated. If I'd believed that she'd died when she did, I'd have been crying, but that was the worst part, it somehow wasn't written to confirm that she was dead until it was too late.

And then the end was the worst. Moving to live with his girlfriends family? That's the worst, he's still only 15, so now he has to grow up with his girlfriend as kind of a sister?

After Jack was killed off, Alex didn't really have anything to lose anymore. He became somehow cold. So if anything, this would have been an excellent time for him to decide to become a spy on his on terms.

If Horowitz didn't want Alex to be a spy anymore, he should have let Jack live, they could've moved to America together, he would be near Sabina, could start again and completely quit the spy life.

I always dreaded the thought of Jack coming on trips with Alex, every book that she suggested coming with him I was so glad she didn't. Even in this book I was thinking, I'm not so sure this is a good idea.. I just didn't expect it to turn out like this.
