Redwallcrazy I can't believe he killed off Jack Starbright!

message 2: by Bub (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bub I haven't read it.

Redwallcrazy (lol, the thing says not to do this discussion if you haven't read it!) :)

Colby I know, I was freaked out when Jack died, but I see how it was needed.

Redwallcrazy I don't.

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ yeah i got so mad tat jack died and wat hapend to alex emotionaly i mean it was a realy bad ending i wish there was an epilouge tat coud hav been more specific

Redwallcrazy IKR! Horrible ending. I kept expecting Jack to just appear out of somewhere, y'know. That and even if he did have to have Jack die, I agree with you, he could have ended it soooo much better.

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ yea i kinda expected more like hoped jack would come back she just was one of those characters

Redwallcrazy Yes, I hate that too, you never really realize how much you liked her as you got to know her through all the other Alex Rider books, until he kills her. Even if she had lived anyway, you would have the same drama. The book would have ended way better if she had lived, lol.

Michele I didn't like that Jack died, nor do I think it was needed, but it does give the books a dose of reality, and, her death gives Alex a real, legitimate reason to stay out of the spy game.

Emma i agree.... i love jack so what do they do.... kill her... kartik all over again!!!! hate alex in this book....

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ but now alex seems depressed i'm glad he'll liv w/ sabina though it will giv him some happiness i stil hated the ending 4 this series made me kinda hate it

message 14: by Emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emma you haven't even read stormbreaker!!!!!!!!!!! luff jack and i cant read the book again!!!!!!!!

Redwallcrazy Sara wrote: "but now alex seems depressed i'm glad he'll liv w/ sabina though it will giv him some happiness i stil hated the ending 4 this series made me kinda hate it"

lol, though I didn't really think that living with Sabrina was the best ending either. I mean the best ending is Jack living and they go live in America with her parent or something like that. But isn't Sabrina like Alex' girlfriend? They kind of act like it in some of the part where they're together throughout the series, lol. I think that would be a bit awkward, lol.

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ haha true but it's beter than him being sent to a foster home

Redwallcrazy This much is true, now that would have been a really sucky ending, lol.

Michele I don't think it was a sucky ending. Sad, yes. But Horowitz has always implied that Alex did not like the spy game and that it was a nasty cold thing. A sweet happy ending doesn't really fit the series. Many of the books have had a sad sort of ending. This is by far the worst, however.

Redwallcrazy Yes, I've never liked books with a sad ending though, it makes me sad. And I don't like being sad, I've got enough to deal with already, lol. :)

David jones Well I didn't really like it much. Sure it was good, but being a finally I expected a lots more action in the book. I liked the story and the plot, but I hated the ending and I also hated when Jack died. It reminded me too much of scorpia the fifth book. I didn't care much for that one either.

Isaac Kind of gloomy the entire time with Jack dying, Smithers leaving (boy THAT was strange), and him leaving the organization for good with an emotional part of him torn out. Just messed up those terrorists are >:[

Hannah Okay. Well, first thing: David (message 20): How could you not like "Scorpia"? That was one of the best in the series. But, I do agree, "Scorpia Rising" was a let down. Second, I despise Sabina with a burning passion. So when Alex went to live with her, my first thought was "RAPE!" and then "Wow... aren't they sort of "an item"?" then it was "I truly hate you, Sabina." Third, Jack dying was a tragedy! I will miss her, but it was a really good twist. Fourth, Has anyone but me heard that in 2012, Horowitz will release the tenth installment of the "Alex Rider" series? But this time, it's completely about Yassen Gregorovich. The Russian assassin is back and this time it's his story in "Yassen" (book 10 in AR). My guess is that it will start with the prologue from "Eagle Strike", and end with his death in "Eagle Strike" and give us flashbacks and history about his past in the middle. Any thoughts?

Isaac Just a comment for Hannah: I agree with you 100% on the Sabina comments and thank you for the info about the 10th book, really helpful.

Hannah Isaac: You are very welcome, My good Sir! I too am completely stoked for it to come out!! ^_^

Redwallcrazy Ah boy. I don't know how to feel about the tenth book. I only really read the series for Alex, not Yassen. I may or may not read it.

David jones I will probably read Yassen I mean it is intersting to see what one of the villans in the story has to say.

Hannah I will definitely read it. Yassen was my favourite part of the series (regardless of the fact that he was only in two books). And I've always longed to know more about him.

Connor Luedtke Horowitz followed JK Rowling by adding unnecessary deaths in the final book of a popular series. Harry Potter Spoiler Alert!!! Although Dobby's death shows his willingness to sacrifice his life for Harry, Hedwig's death was completely unnecessary, like Jack's was.

Hannah I go agree with you, Connor, that Hedwig's death could have been prevented (even though, somehow, we jumped from Horowitz to Harry :\ ). But some authors just feel like killing off a minor character in the story that just happens to be very near and dear to the main character. I know that if I had published books, then mine most certainly would have preventable but semi-necessary deaths.

Taylor I felt like Jack's death was a tiny bit predictable -- I mean, how any other crazy things have happened to Alex? But I didn't expect Horowitz to keep her dead.
I was a tad bit disappointed with this book in general...I think I was hoping for more backstory about Alex's parents, etc. However, Horowitz did do a good job at summing up the series in general. He tied up a lot of loose ends, and I like how he had Mrs. Jones replace Alan Blunt.

Zachman I my opinion it was a good book. Yes jack died but so what? She was never all that important any way. Yes I believe the ending could have been better but what ever. Him finally getting a gun was the cool part! And yes Smithers was WEIRD! And I really don't care for more back story about his parents. He had enough backstory in Snakehead.

I agree for the most part. I did expect her to stay dead though. One thing that I utterly despise, is when a character gets killed off and then, either by magic or reincarnation, the person comes back. Seriously? In the real world, you die and STAY dead. You can't just come back whenever you please. You should try it sometime. I assure you, you will stay dead.

Taylor Hannah wrote: "Taylor wrote: "I felt like Jack's death was a tiny bit predictable -- I mean, how any other crazy things have happened to Alex? But I didn't expect Horowitz to keep her dead.

Haha, good point. I guess the reason I wasn't expecting her to stay dead was because authors often try to "soften things up" in kids/teen fiction, plus the initial unrealisticness (we're making that a word) of this book. Horowitz's hint of realism was appreciated, but unexpected on my part.

I am a writer for Kids/Teen/Young Adult fiction and I think that it's always good to kill off a main character in a horible way because then it gives the readers a cold blast of reality. So I definitely agee with your statement above.

Redwallcrazy Hannah wrote: "Taylor wrote: "Hannah wrote: "Taylor wrote: "I felt like Jack's death was a tiny bit predictable -- I mean, how any other crazy things have happened to Alex? But I didn't expect Horowitz to keep he..."

I always HATE it when they kill off a main character. I still can't read Brian Jacques' Sable Quean because of that. It drives me nuts when people do that. My mom says that it doesn't give readers a burst of reality, it gives drama, not reality.

Haha well then... Maybe you should try to open up to death a bit. Because, I hate to say it but death is the circle of life. :)

Redwallcrazy *le gasp* No Way!! Really??? I had no idea!! I had never heard that.

Don't sass me. It's not attractive, Mr. God is Healer, awesome in power! -_-

I see why he did kill her off, but I still wish he hadn't. :(

Andrez me too. And I'd like to know how Alex is after going to america

Cristy I know! I was crying when Jack died.

message 42: by george ☽ (new)

george ☽ I was sad that Jack died but It needed to happen otherwise Alex would never stop working for the MI6.

Cristy GeOrG!a :) wrote: "I was sad that Jack died but It needed to happen otherwise Alex would never stop working for the MI6."

true. and now he will have a happy life. i mean, as a happy as a life you can have when your parents and uncle and your housekeeper (and best friend) are dead. =) but yeah, that needed to happen.

Ariadna I really liked the book but it I was really sad when Jack died, but Alex does go and live with Sabina and I think when they get older I think they will marry.

Cristy Ariadna wrote: "I really liked the book but it I was really sad when Jack died, but Alex does go and live with Sabina and I think when they get older I think they will marry."

Same.

Tsing Lin Bad ending... seriously disappointing. If he lives with them... then wouldn't Alex be Sabina's brother or something? IDK it's pretty confusing. I like them better as couples xD

Chelsea_Book_Obsessed I cannot believe they killed Jack!!! OMG what an emotional baggage Alex would have on his back for the rest of his life. He'll blame himself for the rest of his life. I reckon that Sabina and Alex should be a couple not be a brother and sister...

Tristan Ropa i dissagree with some of you i thought the earlyer part of the ending was griping and kind of creepy

Hannah Tsing Lin wrote: "Bad ending... seriously disappointing. If he lives with them... then wouldn't Alex be Sabina's brother or something? IDK it's pretty confusing. I like them better as couples xD"

EWW totally... isn't it illegal to marry a brother or something?

I know, right? I loved Jack. She was totally amazing. I seriously think I cried when I read that. I am a devote Alex Rider fan. I own all the books and have read them all.
