@ KaitlinThe vampire myth is rooted near Romania. Historically, ROmanians believed that Garlic warded off evil spirits. If a dead body was suspected as maybe coming back to life as a vampire, it was covered in Garlic. Romanians also smeared Garlic around windows and doors back then to keep evil spirits out...
I think it is just the smell :-)

Even saying so themselves. I don't think they would ever physically fight for Bella's sake but Edward would win no doubt. Jacob can't even get an attack off of Leah without getting himself hurt. Also,Edward has the power of reading Jacob's mind so he would know what move he would make anyway. Either way if one of them killed the other Bella wouldn't be happy so she wouldn't be with either so that would pretty much defeat the purpose of fighting in the first place.
People talk about the wolf being stronger? I always thought that the vampires were stronger, but that the wolves number was the main reason (besides the obvious size, strength, teeth and claws) that the wolves where able to kill vampires?Anyway, if it came to a fight, I also believe that Edward would win, due to his experience, strength, speed, intellect and his ability to read Jacob's thoughts.
