Duchess Nicole | 81 comments Some of my epubs on my nook have odd things going on. One book had question marks in place of much of the punctuation. Another had the Title page information in random places, usually every 2-3 pages. Some of it is not a big deal. Others, like the question marks, make for very difficult reading. Does any one know what causes this? Or if there is a way to fix it?

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) It's the way the file was created, I'd guess. I believe that some publishers use scanning software to create the ebook, and it doesn't recognize everything the way it should. One would think that they would hand the document to a human to quality check and proofread, but it doesn't seem that's always done, or done well when it is.

I'm pretty sure that the title information results from PDF to Epub (etc) conversion, since PDFs are handled differently - more like images than text.

I'm reading a book on my nook right now that has small errors which I think are from scanning - like the letter h replaced with a b, or e to c, etc. It is annoying, but I can live with it. *sigh*

There's a program called Sigil that I've heard allows you to edit Epubs, but I've never used it, so I'm not sure how it works.

Jerry (jersysman) | 53 comments There is a Sigil forum on Mobilereads.com. I have the program installed, but have no idea yet how to use it. One day I'll go on that forum to get the basics.
