I liked the Thursday Next books more than Shades of Grey, but at the same time I can see that some readers might like Shades of Grey better. The sense of humor is similar, but Shades of Grey is a bit less hectic than The Eyre Affair, and the whole color concept is very original.
I just finished Embedded by Dan Abnett (solid military SF but a bit monotonous towards the end) and am now enjoying Peter S. Beagle's latest short story collection, Sleight of Hand.

You don't like Jasper Fforde I take it? I've never read him.
I only read the Eyre Affair, found it tiresome, I realize I am in the minority here.
Finished Martinez's "Divine Misfortune". If an Erikson novel is a steak dinner (or better, one of those monster six-pounds-of-steak challenges), then a Martinez novel is a marshmallow: one bite, over before you know it, single flavour, maybe a bit too sweet in the end, and if one were mean one might say it would be improved by a few minutes of intimate contact with a campfire.

I..."
Great analogy! LOL. But Erikson is a bloody steak, six pounds of it, with a few maggots thrown in for good measure.
Did you like Finity's End?
