I myself have a few cozy mysteries lined up, like The Cat, the Quilt and the Corpse. I love mass market paperbacks when traveling because they are light and small and can fit into my suitcase. Also in the span of a week I can read three or four so I can take a selection. I hate not having a new one when I finish the old.

I plan on going to Ocean City a few times, and the most important thing is having a book to listen to in the car on the drive down! I love a good thriller for that, especially with a little bit of police procedural thrown in. I like Jonathan Kellerman and John Sandford.

I plan on doing some hiking this summer and I always like to bring some poetry books along. Nothing like musing on some Whitman while looking up into the trees.

I am heading to Bermuda and I have to ride the Mega Bus for three hours, so it will be a good time to read. Today I checked out The White Devil and it looks quite good, so I might give it a try!

I am going to be sticking close to home this summer, but, with my handy e-reader by my side, I hope to read some classics I've meant to read since high school,like George Orwell's Animal Farm.

I'm sticking close to home too. I think I'm going to read some Erica Spindler novels(love her!) and sci-fi books, probably with some historical fiction thrown in for good measure.

Oh, it promises to be a delightul mix this summer - Jasper Fforde AND Sarah Addison Allen have both delivered some promising material sure to brim with literary easter eggs and magical realism. For the longer drive to NC I'm thinking a little Geraldine Brooks or some Dickens (Simon Vance was born to read David Copperfield!) Might hold some Josephine Tey in reserve for any rainy, atmospheric days this month....

I am going to the beach in July, and I am planning on bringing some of the loooooong books I have in my to-read pile with me. The Distant Hours, The Name of the Wind, Storm Glass, The Whale: In Search of the Giants of the Sea, and, because I suspect it will be hot, The Magnetic North: Notes from the Arctic Circle. I'm also debating whether or not to bring my kindle - what if it gets sandy?

Animal Farm is one of my favorite books - I really think it manages to stay relevant, even though it is over 50 years old. So interesting. And a fast read.

Which shelf should we add 2013 books to?

I was wondering the same thing as Amber. Does anyone know where we add the 2013 books???

Amber and Deja, on the main page for this group, click on the "Currently Reading" header. After that, on the lefthand side, type in the book(s) you've read since June 17th (when the program started for 2013), then fill in the necessary fields when the book info pops up. I hope that's clear. If not, ask again, and I'll try to clarify further.

Oh okay. I saw that before but I was looking for the 2013 Summer Reading Shelf like the 2012 one last year. The other day it hadn't been added yet but now it is there. So do you still prefer us to use the Currently Reading shelf or the 2013 Summer Reading Shelf? Thanks for your help!

Do we use the 2013 Summer Reading Shelf? I placed one that that I've read and reviewed by I think the other is on the 2012 shelf. I'll move it the 2013 shelf. Please let me know; thank you.

I'm not a moderator, so I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me to put any you're currently reading on the 2013 shelf. The one I just finished I put on the "read" shelf.

Yes, the ways you can get credit for reading books for summer reading 2013 are: add the book to the 2013 summer reading shelf, or go to the 2013 summer reading discussion thread and post a review there.

The reason we need two ways is because a title can only be posted to the shelf one time, so if someone else has read the book first, you won't be able to post it to the shelf, so in that case you can write a review of it on the discussion thread for 2013 summer reading.

At the end of summer reading, I will take all of the books on the 2013 summer reading shelf and all of the book review entries on the 2013 summer reading discussion thread and use them as raffle entry forms.

I hope this clarifies things, but if you have any other questions, feel free to post them here.

I'm thinking maybe the easiest way is to review in the discussion thread because I'm reading Rick Riordan's The Red Pyramid and it doesn't give me the option to add it to the 2013 shelf even though it isn't already on there. I guess it was read in a past year?

Yes, if for any reason you can't add to the bookshelf, just add to the discussion thread.

Hi Jennifer,
Since summer reading started on June 17th, you can add any book you read after that date. If you can't add it to the bookshelf for any reason, just write a review of it on the discussion board for 2013 summer reading. You can add as many books as you read during summer reading, which ends on August 10.

I am moving to NC with my sister for the summer and plan to read a lot while laying by the pool. There are 4 new books I've added to my summer reading list: Janet Evanovich's The Husband List, Philippa Gregory's The White Princess, Joyce Carol Oates' The Accured, and Graeme Simsion's The Rosie Project.

I plan on reading a lot now that I have time off from school. The first thug on my place is to reads the entire "song of ice and fire" series by George RR Martin (a game of thrones and so on), and then I plan to snuggle up with a couple of contemporaries like "we were liars" by: e. Lockhart, and "Paper Towns" by: John Green.
