Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
Ann, yeah for more Maine. I liked Monster 1959. I thought it was a refreshing novel... so different from anything else I had read previously.... and so different from anything else he has written.!

message 4604: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Bleh Lori...so you probably would think it great that my boyfriend asked me if we will watch a horror movie on Halloween...knowing i absolutely never watch horror movies or creepy thriller!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Well, Laura, I guess the good news is that Woodhouse was prolific?

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
Actually, Jeane, im not big into Gore on the big screen. But in a novel, its not so bad.... Weird, I know, but there you have it.

message 4607: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Laura - Wodehouse's The Code of the Woosters has been recommended as a good starting point.

message 4608: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I haven't got a fantastic book right now, so I'm ploughing through Running with the Bulls, Hey Waitress and the marginally less heavy Secrets of the Jury Room. I think I will go look for a new book tomorrow.

message 4609: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Jesse, It gets better and better. I can't say enough about this book. In times like these, everyone needs to read it if for no other reason than just to get the biggest laugh they have had in quite some time.

message 4610: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Just started the The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. So far so good.

message 4611: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) To H w/should. I'm in a WANNA mood. Only if I WANNA.

message 4612: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Woosters - thanks Jamie.

message 4613: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments I quicky finished "The Brass Verdict" by Michael Connelly and loved, loved, loved it! Connelly is probably my favorite author, and most dependable for a great read. I love it that he's stretched out and created a new series.

I'm now onto Company of Liars, an intriguing historical fiction book by Karen Maitland set in England during the Black Plague of 1348. I've loved the first 30 pages. Lots of great characters.

message 4614: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Finished You've Been Warned by James Patterson, man, I just couldn't work that one out no matter how hard I tried .... which is good cos I hate it when I can guess.

Now I'm also reading Around the World in Eighty Days, it's my first Verne and so far I like it, only in about 50 pages though.

message 4615: by Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (last edited Oct 28, 2008 06:22PM) (new)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Dorie - I read Company of Liars this summer and really enjoyed it.

I just finished (like, 15 minutes ago) Twilight.

Not the greatest book I've ever read, but not bad.

Not sure what I'll read next, but as I have a nasty head cold, and am only really comfy reading in bed, I'll undoubtedly be reading something!

message 4616: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments Susanna, glad to hear you enjoyed 'Liars'. I think it's going to be a good, quick read for me. Hope you feel better soon. Read lots of books and takes lots of liquids!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Yes, Ma'am!

Can't wait
I miss Harry!

message 4619: by Bettie (new)

Bettie I'm 50 pages into Pharos and it is already starting to feel quite creepy - nothing like a ghost story at this time of year.

message 4620: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I am half way La solitudine dei numeri primi and adore it. It is one of those books that you constantly want to go and read on while you are doing other things that you have to do....

message 4621: by Connie (last edited Oct 29, 2008 06:38AM) (new)

Connie | 188 comments Just finished The Fountainhead.

Just started Back When We Were Grownups. Hoping to finish in time to read something scary for Halloween (probably I Am Legend).

message 4622: by Stacie (new)

Stacie I was reading The Audacity of Hope, which I really liked, but my life is so hectic right now that I decided that I needed a dose of the unreal rather than the real.

So, I picked up Around the World in 80 Days. It is just what the therapist ordered! It is my first Verne and I can tell you right now that it won't be my last.

It is witty and fun and I really like it.

message 4623: by Laura (last edited Oct 29, 2008 06:27AM) (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Thanks, Seth! I'd heard of Wodehouse, but I had no idea there were so many. I'm glad to know of an author that seems to be right up my alley. Thanks for your rankings!

(So I guess there's no particular order for these books, right? Thanks again!)

message 4624: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I need a push or the Moby Dick that I am reading through Dailylit (which I use rarely). It doesn't say how many pages just the chapters and in how many mails you get it. I am at chapter 29 and was wondering if someone could tell me which page this is in the book. I know it will help me!

message 4625: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I started The Thirteenth Tale: A Novel this morning. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

message 4631: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 437 comments I'm reading the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini right now. I finished Eragon and have started Eldest. Next is Brisingr. There is going to be a 4th, but I have to wait for it. I know there was a movie made based on Eragon, but from what I heard, it is nothing like the book.
