I'm now reading a promising book. "The Story of India" by Michael Wood.

I have just finished Eat Pray Love which I was undecided about at the beginning but ended up enjoying. Am about half way through The House Gun. It's actually been a quick read and am also enjoying it although alot of readers say it is too depressing.

I loved LOTR. I read them about five years ago and was completely absorbed by it. Didn't read The hobbit yet.

I started reading Bartleby & Co. yesterday. Very slow going. It's a novel that reads like non-fiction. Interesting concept, but the lack of plot is difficult for me.

I read Night by Elie Wiesel last night. I would really recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it. It's a true story about when the author was 15 and in concentration camps in Europe. Really sad but powerful book.

Oh, and now I'm starting The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. I think that in the States it has been published as Someone Knows My Name.

I just started Sophie's Choice, which is going to take me awhile because of the length of the book and the small print. It is a difficult read because I feel like I need a dictionary next to me while I am reading it. I am intrigued so far...

I have not been reading in forever! Geeze! IHomecoming is finally over, so hopefully, things are going to go smoother now, and I will get to read more. I'm almost done Alice at Heart, but I have barely started Dracula. So we shall see how things work out.

I love Dickens, but to be fair, I have to say that A Tale of Two Cities is my least favorite of his novels that I've read. Still good, though.

Right now I'm re-reading Dissolution by C. J. Sansom, which is as good as I remember it.

Right now, I am reading Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. It's another one that I have heard highly recommended for reasons I don't yet understand. I just over half way, so maybe the end is the draw??

Tolstoy short stories from the Caucasus in an edition of Russian writers including Turgenev - Father's & Sons, &, Dostoyevsky - Crime & Punishment. Not a short read but a good one.

Laura, I can't quite find the words for describing the greatness of Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon, but this review does a pretty adequate job of it.

I had a similar experience, reading The Hobbit as a teen, (many years ago) but not being able to get through the LOTR series on the first try. A few years made a difference. When I got around to a second try, in my 20's I think, it was true love. I have read the series several times, including out loud to my children. Sometimes, one's appreciation of a work of art is a factor of time as well as the piece itself. Wait a few years, then give it another go. You may have a different reaction, as you will be a different person. Real classics deserve a second look.

I read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings when I was 10. It took me a while to get into the Hobbit but I enjoyed it, and I loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy but it took me ages to get through the battle sequences and I skipped through some of the Elvish songs etc. I'm planning on reading the English version in the near future (the one I read back then was the german translation). It's ready on my bookshelf but atm I'm reading Peter Pan and I'm finding the writing style quite good. I'm also about 150 pages into Die erste Leiche vergisst man nicht. It's a german book that is a collection of real stories told by police officers which is slightly disturbing but really interesting. Oh and I finished Brisingr and pretty much gave much on finishing Dracula for now.

I know I am a little late but I too saw Blindness and thought it followed fairly well. It is funny when an author really doesn't really give a detail description of people or places and yet it was perfect!

Also as my follow up with Lori about Smashed, I felt the same way. If he can introduce a book like that then I am sold!!!

I'm finding myself with two books on my bedside table. One is "Reading Lolita in Tehran" by Azar Nafisi, I'm reading it quite slowly because, I couldn't tell why, it's not so interesting for me now. The other is a controversial Italian novel, "Il Male oscuro" (in English "Incubus") by Giuseppe Berto, which is a hard, but fascinating reading: the semi-autobiographical story of how a man sinks into a depression and tries to escape from it, analysing why and how he began to suffer.

Well, I finished all the various books that were plaguing me over the weekend and have decided to start in on Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart.

I just finished Haunted Lily but Sidney Fox. AMAZING, I highly recommend it and will definitively get you in the Halloween mood. If you like a creepy, thrill read this will make your day! I loved it so much and can not wait for the next in the series to be released. Look for Enchanted Shadow soon too! For having such serious content she was able to keep you lighthearted and excited to read on. She has a great style of writing that was fun, entertaining and spooky. I sat for four hours straight and could not go to bed until I finished it. Anyone else read this yet?

I just finished A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny. I really enjoyed it. I'm still reading House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I am about to start Holes by Louis Zachar.

Operandi, I read Holes a couple of years back because my niece was raving about it. It was an unexpectedly good book. The movie was pretty good too.

Jessica, I'm reading Tale of Two Cities as well. It took me about 50 or so pages to really get into it. But I'm really into it now.

I'm also still in the midst of Anna Karenina. I really feel like I'm going to finish it this time. I feel like I'm on a roll with it again. It seems like it's one of those books where it takes some getting into, but once I'm on a roll, I can't stop. It's definitely rewarding and I'm excited to see it through to the end. That being said, I've got quite a ways to go!

What are you talking about! Have you even read the book? It was great! Oh I loved it soooo much, creepy and still fun! She's a great author, my friend Jason suggested it to me. I think it's more a shame people feel the need to be sooo negative. Stop taking yourself and this silly site so seriously. Just read good books and enjoy. The internet isn't a free pass to be ugly. Give her book a try at least, it really got me in the Halloween spirit. I'm sooo excited for Halloween, fall is my favorite season!

Anyway...I'm also reading The Historian which is a beautifully written book! Is that her first book? I guess I can go look that up...lol which I will. If it's not, has anyone read anything else by her?

Also reading "The Complete Stephen King Universe", the updated version with The Tower series. Someone here recommended the book, and I'm enjoying it. Gets you into the mind and worlds of King. I have to say, he thinks differently than the rest of us.

Allison- I read Night by Elie Wiesel as a high school student. I plan on reading it again soon. To all that are reading or planning on reading Sophie's Choice, I would highly recommend it. The story is so powerful that it will leave you breathless.

Anna Karenina - that's another one I gave up on early on. All the Russian names kept throwing me (I know, I'm weird). Plus, it just seemed like it wasn't picking up. But being another one of those books I was supposed to read in H.S., I should prob. give it another try.
