It's extremely lovable, even moreso than some kitten avi's I've seen. Who'da thunk it?

Truly. But I will say this - the pic on your profile page is not as lovable as the one that shows here in the threads. It almost looks like the emu's nostrils are eyes from this view. And the little hairs around its beak just make it look like a fuzzy little mini creature without feet, but with a cute smile. I really need to sleep.
YAY! That means your going to read A Great and Terrible Beauty soon, correct? My god, I sound like one of those awful spammers.
In fact, I couldn't really tell it was an emu with the pic so small. To me (until I clicked and went to the profile) it looks like a cuddly, furry thing.
See? Truly lovable. Emma the Emu. Or, should I say??GEMMA the Emu !!
:)
OK I'm signing off now - to bed & to a new audiobook someone recommended. I don't remember who.....
<<<< shuffling and mumbling away >>>>
When I first joined, Emma, I though that was the name of the trilogy you keep recommending. Then I learned the books are actually Gemma. To be honest, I'm suprised you hadn't changed your screen name to Gemma. When someone I think Laura) posted earlier you should make the change and you said no one had mentioned it, I truly was suprised. I just assumed someone else had said something or I would have said something sooner.Okay, that was a long-winded, confusing post. Make sense?
Emma - I mean (G)Emma !!! I see it !!!LOL
You are so funny!! But the BEST was
My god, I sound like one of those awful spammers.
I am still LOL'ing and I have GOT to go to BED!
LOL
Heheh, thanks for the suggestion! :)Hahaha! I am ashamed and in a state of pure bliss at the same time. Is that possible?
OK...Really signing off now. See you guys tomorrow.I am so glad I found this group. You guys are just a HOOT!
Michelle,I recently read Fallen and loved it.You're in for a treat!I finished A Clockwork Orange today and started Dracula(I always say that in my mind with a campy Bela Lugosi accent, can't help myself!)
Finished The Gypsy Morph (just okay). I am reading Chicken with Plums (Marjane Satrapi), and just started Downtown Owl (Chuck Klosterman).
Melissa, Hidden Power has currently taken a backseat to the October reads, but I am enjoying it. I just read about Woodrow and Edith Wilson and I enjoy the author's writing style. But then again I am a presidential trivia/history nerd, so any book like that I can get my hands on, I read!
Jamie...I, too, am a music lover and Love is a Mixed Tape resonated with me as well. I love hearing other people's takes on things I love as well. Probably why I loved The Polysyllabic Spree as well. I may not have read everything Hornby has it didn't matter. Just like I wasn't familiar with all of the music Sheffield referenced...although I did end up downloading a few after...Lori...the recommendations were appreciated. I find that I read whatever is put in front of me and given the limited selection overseas, I have to be selective when I order them online, so they are always welcome. Particularly when the person recommending them is so passionate about them and well-read.
Lori, I think I have been getting so much reading done becuause of 4 nights a week football practice, carpool line, and morning time for myself that I have been making me take! lol I love my books:)
Michelle, I am far from well-read, but flattered all the same? (my cheeks went pink!)
Ann, yeah, i think I need to stop finding reasons to NOT read, and really focus on reading.. Im always running around but never stopping long enough to get any real page turning time in.... Hmmmmmm....

Tisha, glad you loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn as I have decided to take it on holiday with me this week. What made you love it so much?
I FINALLY finished Shantaram last night! It was a great book, I'm really glad I read it and that I stuck with it. On to The Stand, which I started a couple of days ago. I really can't read two books at once, I don't know why I keep trying.
Laura: Not sure what your taste runs to, but just read:The Art of Racing in the Rain - Garth Stein - heartwarming, funny, informative. Narrated by the family pooch. You will love the characters. I give this one a rousing 5.
Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruis-Zafron: Historical mystery that will grab your attention and keep. I loved this one because it was a great blend of dark humor and images that can take full form in your mind and keep you guessing. Oh, yeah - 5.
A Dirty Job - Christopher Moore - Don't let the cover put you off. Beware of this book, it will make you laugh out loud. People might begin to fear for your sanity. Macabre romp through San Francisco with the caretakers of souls and the dark forces of the underworld. 7 (I thought to give it +2 on my own.)
Double Bind - Chris Bohjalian - Yes, yes, yes for this mystery within a mystery. 5+
I'm reading A Dirty Job and through the first 75 pages it's great. It was recommended by my sister who rarely reads my type of books but apparently she knows when I'll like a book. Last book she recommended: Blindness...nuff said.
I finished Smoke Screen by Sandra Brown last night, which was a good suspense book with a predictable ending. I just started Dreams of My Father by Obama. I am only on page 25 or so, but overall it is holding my interest.
Angela - Keep me updated. I have full intentions of picking up a copy soon.JT - The Joy Luck Club was a pleasant surprise. It took me a little while to get into it because the story is told through so many different characters and once I'd get into one person's story, the narrator would change. However, it didn't take too long to enjoy each character's perspective and how well their stories were woven together. You should give it a whirl.
Isiah...Glad to hear you are liking Dirty Job.. one of Moore's best IMO.
Blindness.... of the best books period!

@ Lori: Perhaps you could recommend one of Moore's other top tier books? About Blindness, yeah, just wow.
I started A Great & Terrible Beauty last night. So far, so good. It's definitely YA, but better written (by far) than the Twilight series. I'm still in the setup period, so not sure what's "really" going on yet, but I will def. continue on with it.(Thanks, (G)Emma!)
YAY!!!!! I'm sure you'll love it! (Welcome! Sorry about my 6 year old behavior, I'm just so excited!)
Linda - Thanks for your suggestions. I loved Double Bind, took it on vacation with me in '07 and hardly wanted to do anything else - kept me riveted a little less than 1/2 way thru.I just got word that A Dirty Job is ready to be picked up at the library, so great minds on that one too!
Guess I'll have to try Racing in the Rain and Shadow of the Wind as well! I do love mysteries, two of my fave authors there are Lawrence Block (love the Burglar series, really funny stuff), Eliz. George (anything by her, love the British setting).
Okay, this has nothing to do with anything being discussed here but I needed to vent. I was just reading reviews, looking forward to the new books on their way to me, when I stumbled across a review that completely spoiled not just a book but a whole series for me! How rude! If you're going to tell me that one of my favorite characters dies then you need to click the "spoilers in this review" button! It's not hard. A simple click of the mouse and the suspense is saved!Ugh, that just really upsets me!
No, it wasn't in this group. I ventured out into the big scary world of Goodreads. That'll teach me. Just stick to TNBBC and everything will be all right.
OH, I see you said not here! Good! I hate it when that happens. I have a friend who thinks its funny to give the ending away! I no longer tell her what I am reading!!
One of my friends gave away the ending of Breaking Dawn, but I didn't really care because I didn't like the series that much.
