Linda | 887 comments Dorie, Glad to hear you liked The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Was in Costco this weekend and couldn't resist, especially since it was almost 50% off the retail price. All the things I have heard about it so far are super positive.

message 3902: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Charity, I listened to it on CDs and really liked it.

message 3903: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Angela, I have not read Smoke Screen, but loved Chill Factor by Sandra Brown. I recommended it to a friend who does not always like what I do and she praised it as well.

Read Dreams of My Father and enjoyed it. Gives some insights into the man and his family relationships.

message 3904: by Jen (new)

Jen | 278 comments Ken, how are you feeling about Fatherland? It looks really interesting. I went through a phase of being obsessed with all things WWII and Hitler and I'm wondering when it will return.

message 3905: by Stacie (new)

Stacie Charity, My friend is bringing that book for me in a couple of weeks. I am probably going to put off Tale of Two Cities for a bit to read it. However, it sounds like a page turner, so I won't have to put it off for too long.

message 3906: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Trust me, it IS a page-turner!!! It brings so many things to light. I'm really surprised it has taken me this long to read it, but no time like the present, right??

I am definitely looking forward to reading Dreams of My Father soon. Sounds like a winner also!

message 3907: by Stacie (new)

Stacie My brother read that one and loved it. He read it a long time ago. I too can't believe I haven't read either of those yet. But, like you say, no time like the present!

message 3908: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments He also has a new book called Change We Can Believe In. I am going to reserve both from my library now.

message 3909: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) I wanted to read that one, too, Angela, but it was already checked out. I'll probably have to get on the (LONG) waiting list for it.

It was just published last month, right??

message 3910: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Of course...I may just go buy it!

message 3911: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I just requested it and there were only 15 holds on it, but a ton of libraries had it, so I hopefully will get this soon. :) I did not look at the publish month :(

message 3912: by Krista (new)

Krista (findyourshimmy) | 382 comments I'm with you, bnoir, with regard to Heart Shaped Box. Let me know how 20th Century Ghosts turns out...

The Nightmare Chronicles looks good, too!!!!

message 3913: by Stef (new)

Stef (buch_ratte) | 650 comments After finishing The Last Templar by Raymond Khoury yesterday, I am now reading Death's Autograph by Marianne Macdonald.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I am reading Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, both by Washington Irving. I've always meant to read these classics and its about time!

Charity (charityross) Angela-

It looks like Change We Can Believe In came out at the beginning of September. I can't wait to read it. Barack Obama is such a talented writer!!

message 3918: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I am excited to finish the book I am currently reading so that I can begin Dreams of My Father. The one I am reading now is due on Wed., so I have to finish this one first :(

message 3919: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife. It was a beautigul story. I decided to read something light next so I picked up Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich.

message 3920: by Emma (last edited Oct 06, 2008 09:07AM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Charity, I know! Isn't his writing fantastic? How far are you? Yeah, I heard about his new book, I can't wait to read it!

message 3921: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) I just started the chapter titled "Values"....I need to update my progress bar. I really have to get off Goodreads and get back to reading the book because it is so intriguing.

Are you going to read Dreams of My Father soon, Emma?

Angela, if you start reading it before I do, please keep me informed.

message 3922: by Emma (last edited Oct 06, 2008 09:16AM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hmmm.....most likely. Who am I kidding, yes. I'm going to try to fit in all of his books before the election.

message 3923: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Oh...Happy Early Thanksgiving, Emma!! Isn't that coming up next Monday?

message 3924: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh right! Thanks Charity! I'm not a big Thanksgiving person, but I won't refuse a holiday! :)

message 3925: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Ken, I can't wait to hear your final thoughts on American Armageddon. I read Unger's first book, House of Bush, House of Saud, and was really impressed with Unger's voice and the depth of his research. He's definitely one of my preferred political authors.

message 3926: by Charity (last edited Oct 06, 2008 10:02AM) (new)

Charity (charityross) Me too! Those all sound like great reads!!!

I would also recommend Ron Suskind's The Price of Loyalty. What Paul O'Neill discovers during the early days of the Bush administration is pretty jaw-dropping! Maybe not anymore...with as jaded as we've become. Still a great read though.

message 3927: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) Finished Eclipse and liked that one the best so far.I actually feel bad for Bella being torn between to loves.I also liked the more action near the end.
Now on to The Taken by Sarah Pinborough.

message 3928: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Another book that will be going into my TBR pile, Ken.

*sigh* I think my TBR list needs an elastic waistband.

message 3929: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Or a bigger shelf.

message 3930: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I'm just getting started on Outlander. I'm so excited to get into it because I've heard such great things about it! :)

message 3931: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments LOL, Fiona, your to-read list looks eerily similar to mine! I'm planning on reading both Demons and East of Eden before the end of the year.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Still reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, but I also started The Ghost Map: The Story of London's Most Terrifying Epidemic--and How It Changed Science, Cities, and the Modern World the other night. It's quite interesting so far.

message 3933: by [deleted user] (new)

I know what you mean Fiona. I used to read a few at a time, but I made a decision sometime last year to do one at a time.

message 3934: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I'm with you Fiona...one at time. Even if I could clone myself I don't think I can completely get through my TBR list. Everyday I discover new books and authors and I seem to be addicted to adding them all on the list. LOL.

message 3935: by [deleted user] (new)

I LOVED East of Eden. I hope you like it, too!

message 3936: by [deleted user] (new)

animal farm

message 3937: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (sir_reads_a_lot) | 509 comments Just Finished This Lullaby. It was an eh book for me. Didn'[t hurt anything, but it wasn't one I would recomend to everybody I see.

Starting Dracula now! Wohoo!

message 3938: by She'Davia (new)

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) Right now I'm reading Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult...and still, slowely but surely, working my way through The Magus

message 3939: by Jen (new)

Jen | 278 comments Fiona, I recently read East of Eden and it surpassed To Kill a Mockingbird as my favorite book of all time. It was incredible. I hope to read it again within the next few years.

message 3940: by Angela (new)

Angela | 64 comments I loved East of Eden. I read it after reading Grapes of Wrath. Oftentimes, if I read a book by an author and like it, I will read his/her other books right after. So, Steinbeck was no different. Eventually, I will reread it.

I just finished reading Love is a Mix Tape. For those of you who grew up in the late 1970s and 1980s, you will be able to relate to this book with no problem. I know all of you either made or received at least one mix tape in your lifetime.

message 3941: by Krista (new)

Krista (findyourshimmy) | 382 comments Finished Dracula and am now into House of Leaves...just finished the introduction.

message 3942: by Heather (new)

Heather I'm reading Who the Hell is Pansy O'Hara: The Fascinating Stories Behind 50 of the World's Best Loved Books. I've really been enjoying as it offers some enlightening information about some authors. I just finished Forever Odd - not as good as Odd Thomas but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

I'm wanting to start House of Leaves, but I'm starting a book club and we've decided to read East of Eden. I can't wait to read both.

message 3943: by Cynthia (last edited Oct 06, 2008 07:48PM) (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments Just finished Belle in the Big Apple: A Novel with Recipes...I liked most of it but it was weird it was like a lot of movies that have come lately where the connections between scenes just weren't there you know. It's like pages or paragraphs should be missing but they're not it just the way the story was written. Some books have to much detail...this had two little in some places (too much in some though). The recipes sound really good though and the overall concept was interesting it just fell short of my expectations. I plan to read The Gifted Gabaldón Sisters next.

message 3944: by silvia (new)

silvia | 282 comments I've also started reading God Is a Bullet. its a hardback so its my nigth read. itas a really srong book - cultist murders, heroin addicts, dirty cops, child molestations, etc. but its reaaly really well written. its not you're usual easy sick triller.

The Book Whisperer (aka Boof) Emilee, do you like Animal Farm? I just LOVE that book so much. I read it years ago and it still breaks my heart when I think about Boxer the horse :o(

message 3946: by [deleted user] (new)

So far it's good. I've heard a lot of good things. I am sure I'll have it done quickly as it's not very long. I'll let you know.

message 3947: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Heather - I'm looking forward to reading that also. I read a review about it in the newspaper and thought it looked great. Well, you don't exactly have to twist my arm to read books on books anyway.

You should pick up Now All We Need Is a Title: Famous Book Titles and How They Got That Way. Very fascinating stuff!!

message 3948: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Oh, Seth, I hope you love The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon as much as I did. It's easily in my top 10 favorite books.

message 3949: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments Now I am reading the newest Nicholas Sparks book- The Lucky One.

message 3950: by Cheri Howard (new)

Cheri Howard I'm reading the Midnight Club by James Patterson and I'm just not getting into it. I have never read anything by him, but it was part of a stack that was lent to me by a colleague so I thought I'd give it a try. I hope it grabs me soon!
