Well I am finishing up A Golden Age by Tahmuma Anam and now I am going to read All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy.I wanted to read Twilight next but someone let me borrow the book and they still havw yet to read it so I gotta read it in the quickness.
Yeah I am going to see the movie hopefully sometime this week...my friend wanted to go last night but we didnt get back from NY til a little after 10.
Just started on A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I've wanted to read it for a while, and now I finally got the chance (and hopefully time) to do so. :)
Kristina, I just finished it this Sunday. It's impressive. But I don't want to tell you more on it now. Waiting until you finish it and talk than.
I am still trudging through The Lost Constitution. It's been almost a week and I am only on page 374 of 752. I'm enjoying the story but it's just taking FOREVER.
Ya know I started reading that too , but I had a hard time and then was distracted by something shiny.
I hate when shiny things distract me, haha! Maybe I'd get through the book faster if GR wasn't always calling out to me!
I know damn shiny things ...I need to start wearing blinders when I read..and turning off the computer. BUt I only got to where the kid got shot in the leg.
Yeah, the fact that my laptop is usually within 6 feet of me while I read is not a good thing. If I'm not on GR, I'll decide I need to make a sports bet or something equally silly.I got further than that but every time I look at the book, I just keep seeing how many more pages I have to go.
I just started reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn last night. So far I like the main character Francie.
i had to read Things Fall Apart for my world lit class in college. i thought it sucked, and wouldn't have read it if it wasn't required reading. good for you for doing it on your own!
New to the group...reading Heat by Bill Buford (loving it!) and Shantaram. I'm normally a fast reader and just devour my books, but Shantaram is killing me slowly. Maybe I'm just not deep enough....
Jen, sorry to make you wait.....
work is taking up my valuable GR and reading time... grrrrr.....
I am loving Death W.Interruptions so far, but have only managed to get 2 chapters in so far. Tomorrow I will be home alone for hours (kids in school, hubby at work) so i plan on just vegging in my chair and reading... ahhhhh....
Stacie... I am flattered that you loved two of the nearest and dearest novels to my heart!!

Have just started Disgrace by J M Coetzee. Really dislike main character but interested to see where the book leads.
I am currently reading 90 Minutes in Heaven, but find it to be a little slow. I'm the kind of reader that needs to finish a book before I begin another. I want to hurry and finish so I can start on Me Talk Pretty One Day, which I've heard is quite amusing. We'll see!
I can't believe i am saying this, but I am having a hard time with LIFE OF PI. I have tried this before and could not get past page 25. I am on page 75, and I have heard so many wonderful things about it. So I am keeping with it. I guess coming off of CHOKE and LONG WAY GONE, this book is not as quick.
Hey Ann - I really liked Life of Pi, but will readily admit it took me awhile to get into it and I did feel really bewildered at the end, fact or fiction, I couldn't tell. It's a great story once you get into the meat of it.
I take back what I said about Pi... He is on the boat, and it is good... I was wrong... i admit it...
AnnWait till you get to the end....
I read the book and took everything "literal". But there is more to the story when you really think about it...And I couldn't think about it that way.
You will know what I mean when you are done :)
Ann, I'm so glad you're loving Pi now. It's one of my favourite ever books - I fell in love with Richard Parker.I took everything (and still do) to be literal. Spudsie, help me out here!!!
JT, yep still up for Tale of Two Cities but will probably be mid to end of October as I'm going on holiday until the 20th and I don't fancy Dickens accompaning me on the sun-lounger!
Well, just finished and can't believe that I waited this long to read a Moore book. It isn't normally something I would pick up, but am so glad that I did.I am now on to Dracula.
JT and Boof - If there is room, I would love to join you for Tale of Two Cities. I want to take on Dickens, but don't think I can manage on my own. :)
Ann, I too am glad that you stuck with Pi and are liking it now. I found it to be a wonderfully thought provoking book - one that I have read a few times and find that there was always something that I missed the time before.
Melody - I just finished Disgrace last night. I also hated the main character at first, and then saw at the store that John Malkovich will be playing the main character in the movie so I couldn't stop picturing him as David. Overall though I thought it was an interesting read.Currently I am reading The Thirteenth Tale and Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
I'm currently reading "Love is a Mixed Tape" and so far it's great. I'm a big music fan and often think of the songs that would play on the soundtrack of my life. :)
Still plugging away at Aztec (Gary Jennings), and also started The Secret Life of Bees (Sue Monk Kidd).
I just finished The Raw Shark Texts, the first of the Gormenghast trilogy (Titus Groan) and The Savage Detectives. Over the last three days, I've started Wuthering Heights and The Three Musketeers and I'm carrying around Dracula should the mood strike me. Phew. Lots of reading...
I have "The Art of Racing in the Rain" in audio on hold at the library. I'm #2 on the list so shouldn't be much longer. I'm hearing very good things about it.
JT, sounds good to me. Maybe I can get through both Dracula and House of Leaves before then, if I'm super ambitious.
Mid-October sounds good to me JT. I am reading Dracula right now. In fact, I just got up from reading the first few pages, realizing I hadn't checked in. :)
AnnI loved The Art of Racing in the Rain! I read it over the summer and had a great time! You will enjoy it!
Hi, I am new to the group. I am currently reading "The Big House" by George Howe Colt. It is supposed to be a good book but it is putting me to sleep.
Hi Lori, from one to the other. Some books will do that to you, huh? I had the same problem with Saturday.
Kate Shrew, Shantaram is killing me slowly as well, I don't know why I can't read it faster. I'm almost done, I'm on page 750, but I still feel like I will never finish it! I commited to read The Stand this month and I am going to start it tonight. I will set Shantaram aside briefly, and hopefully will be able to get through the two books quickly. It helps that this month shouldn't be as busy as last month either.
It sounded very good when I first read the review and people who have read it have said they enjoyed it very much so I am looking forward to it. Thanks!
I finished The Talented Mr. Ripley, and it was good. I really got into it. I ended up reading it through Earth Science Honors yesterday and Early US History Honors today. I gave it 4 stars.I picked up Dracula at the Library today, so that is what I'm going to read after I read This Lullaby, by Sarah Dessen. I had already started it before I went to the libary, and I don't like to read two books at a time. So yeah.
Currently Reading This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
Saved By Grace, a lot of us in this group, including me love to smell books so don't feel you sound corny 'cause you don't! Welcome to the group, by the way! I got an email from my library that The Story of Edgar Sawtelle (I had put it on hold a couple of weeks ago) was ready to be picked up. Naturally I had to go get it after picking up my husband from the train station. All the other books I'm reading will just have to be put aside b/c I have to finish this in 2 weeks as there are 17 other people waiting for this book.
