Connie | 188 comments Linda: I am feeling your pain. Now that I am totally dependant on the library I don't know what I'd do if they closed their doors. I've always got at least 5 books checked out at a time. And I no longer feel guilty when I don't see a bad book through to the end.

Hope they get your library re-opened soon. Good luck!

Connie | 188 comments Speaking of bad books… I haven't completely given up on The Historian yet, but I'm putting it on the back burner while I read, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. It's been a while since I've got my hands on some fiction so I am just aching for something to get totally immersed in.

message 3653: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Emma, I feel your pain. This year has been such a bonanza of fiction that I'd forgotten how much longer it takes me to read non-fiction. This has left me reading Nemesis The Last Days of the American Republic American Empire Project|64711] for the past four days and will likely consume most of the weekend too. I think I'll definitely need a light quick read after this, though I really want to dive into Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism prior to election day. What can I say? I'm a nerd.

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hehehe, we all are Logan. Okay, the book is right beside me. But.........I'm on Goodreads and a lot of people are on and.........I have no disipline. But the book is really good!!! Ack.

message 3655: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Well I did an about face today and rather than continue on with Dracula(not in the mood yet)I started Cannery Row which I'm loving. The characters are wonderful(I have a soft spot for Mack)

message 3656: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Well, it does seem kind of early.....you have to wait for all the Halloween merchandise to come into the stores and the candy addiction to begin. :D

message 3657: by [deleted user] (new)

1/3 through The Hotel New Hampshire. While I can't say it is my favorite, there is just something about Irving that grips me every single time. I'm looking forward to a weekend of rainy weather!

message 3658: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Awesome! I love it when the air becomes cold and crisp. The leaves start to fall, the scenery is gorgeous. And it's a perfect time to read outside! I have a reading table and I can't wait to go outside with my cozy sweater and read.

message 3659: by [deleted user] (new)

This time of the year IS perfect. With the exception of figuring out when to turn the heat on and having to rake 40 bags of leaves.

message 3660: by Emma (last edited Sep 26, 2008 10:50AM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh right. BUT, you can just put on a sweater instead of cranking the heat. But the raking.....I guess we'll all just have to deal with the labor. :P

message 3661: by [deleted user] (new)

Emma - If it was just me, yeah I could leave the heat off forever, but I have a soft heart when the kids teeth start chattering.

Ken - I do plan on seeing the movie as soon as I find a place that has it or join Netflix again. All signs point to a washout this weekend. The tee time has officially been cancelled.

message 3662: by Emma (last edited Sep 26, 2008 11:20AM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Good point. I can picture the poor little things shivering.

message 3663: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I actually finished reading! A Curse Dark as Gold was REALLY good, excellent retelling.

message 3664: by [deleted user] (new)

Empire of the Sun. Oh wow it's good. I loved the movie but the book puts the movie to shame. Great REad!

message 3665: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments Emma: I, too, love fall reading. Outside at the park, or inside by the fire wrapped in a blanket with my two cats. Autumn is beautiful here in the Great Northwest. Where in Canada are you from?

message 3666: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I rather not say, but the falls are really nice here. :) I've always been a fall girl.

message 3667: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments Oops, yeah. After I posted I thought that was kinda personal for me to ask. I completely understand. Sorry if that was a bit forward of me.

message 3668: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments It's alright, I'm just happy you understand. Sometimes people will ask me and say "Why?" And then I start feeling unconfortable. I CAN tell you I was born in Vancover though. A rain lover at heart. :)

message 3669: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melitious) Yesterday afternoon, I picked up Out of Sync by Lance Bass from the library and finished it this morning. This afternoon, I finally received my copy of Love is a Mix Tape so I've started that. I'm out of my reading rut a bit -- I just need to try reading some shorter books for a while instead of tackling so many of the longer books I have on my to-read shelf.

message 3670: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Yeah, that helps sometimes. Or lighter subjects.

message 3671: by Cynthia (last edited Sep 26, 2008 07:37PM) (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments We've got not only Halloween but Christmas decorations in all the stores around me...is it just me or does it seem that every year the christmas decorations hit the stores sooner and sooner...pretty soon you won't know what holiday it is because they will all be out at the same time.

message 3672: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) I have started Eclipse and also the first Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris.

message 3673: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments Emma: I was wondering about Vancouver (that's why I'd asked). Such a beautiful city. It is only a few hours from here so I have been many times. I love the rain as well. I used to think it was just b/c it gave me a chance to stay indoors and read. For some reason sunny days (maybe b/c they are so rare) make me feel like I'm supposed to get out and DO something. But, nah, it isn't just that; I just really love the rain.

message 3674: by Becky (new)

Becky (rsnm) Fiona - Let me know what you think of it, that's been on my to read list for ages

Cynthia- It's true christmas keeps coming earlier, I used to be annoyed when they had all the stuff up for sale right after Halloween but even that is still a month away. I wonder when they'll start selling easter eggs, maybe next month?

My mum actually found my version of Dracula where I thought it was (at their house in my old room behind the bed under some boxes and between well a lot of other books). So I'm a few pages into that as well as Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey which I mentioned before and I picked up a copy of Brisingr at the train station today, more because my sister wanted a copy than anything but I guess I'll be reading that sometime within the next week as well.

message 3675: by K.S.R. (new)

K.S.R. (kareyshane) | 17 comments Hi all. Looks like many of you are reading Dracula with Halloween coming up...I'm currently reading the 'ole two books, depending on which room I'm in: The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, which makes me long for my childhood when we always had a dog (I miss Mitzi the most...)

My other book is Democracy in America by de Toqueville. That one makes me long for an America that is long past.

message 3676: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Just finished One More Time
by Carol Burnett
I liked it. She is a great lady. This was about her life. From her childhood to her big break on Broadway and TV.

Going to start Things Fall Apart
It's a bookclub book.

message 3677: by Becky (new)

Becky (rsnm) Kellie - I read Things Apart in my senior year and found it was very well written, although it took me a while to get used to the names. Hope you enjoy it!

message 3678: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Looking forward to it. I heard it was pretty good.

message 3679: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Connie: It really does make you appreciative of sunny days, but the rain is the best part. I think my favorite way to go asleep is with the rain pitter-pattering on my window. It really is the gorgeous, and plenty of Starbucks. :)

message 3680: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments mmm...starbucks, rain and a good book...I love it. It's been really sunny here in CO. I wish it would rain for a few days. :~)

message 3681: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hehe :D It's the perfect combo.

message 3682: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 163 comments I never read 2 books @ a time but I am in New York for the weekend and my friend and I started reading Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist in the car on the way here. Its good so far...I am enjoying it. Hopefully we will finish it on the way home.

message 3683: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments That's great! I'm waiting for it at the library, and I'm glad you think it's good!

message 3684: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 38 comments I wish I could use the library... I am visiting the UK. I so need to go into town and get some books!!! I am reading Jacob's Ladder. It was not quite what I thought it would be. I thought I would learn a lot about DNA, physical make up, something. I am just in the beginning and well if i had another book I would read it. I think I am going to try to go to WHSmiths in the next few days, I need a good book now!
