What are you reading?
I was reading The Hunchback of Notre-Dame but I put it down for a little while, and then I got distracted by another book, which is The Face by Angela Elwell Hunt.

Just finished reading Jim Baggott's new book called 'Higgs: The Invention and Discovery of the 'God Particle''. The book discusses the recent discovery of the Higgs boson, of course, but it also does an excellent job of explaining the development of the Standard Model of particle physics (which theory is our best explanation of matter and force, and the theory of which the Higgs boson is a part). The book provides just what the general reader needs to understand the discovery of the Higgs boson and what it all means. I've written an executive summary of the book available here:http://newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com/...
Cheers,

Just finished Graveminder by Melissa Marr. Strange, not really sure I understood it,but it did make a good Halloween read.
Well, I finished A Game of Thrones which was a great read and I have a hold on A Clash of Kings but in the mean time I'm reading something completely different, Tipping the Velvet and then hopefully Dead and Gone.
I'm currently reading The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny. I'm always astonished how the author can make you feel so emotionally connected to the characters.

Yes I have read all of the Odd books, and this one was not my favorite.

That's on my list next... is it good?

Lori: Not Shaun, but I read The Lincoln Lawyer last fall and did like it. Enough, at least, that I am interested in reading the second book in that series. I keep forgetting to look for it at the UBS.

Thanks Paula, I am enjoying it. She's a first time author for me but I know I will be looking up some of her others.

Thanks Brenda, I really am enjoying it. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
For another Goodreads Group, I'm reading The Killings At Badger's Drift which is the first novel in the series which was adapted into the English TV series Midsomer Murders. At first I found it veddy, veddy British, but it's easing up a little and I'm starting to enjoy it more.
The Lifebaot by Charlotte Rogan. Bookmarks Magazine rated it very highly. It's interesting - always a great concept: one overcorwded lifeboat and a whole bunch of days to try and figure out with whom your best chances of survival rests.

I liked both the book and the movie. I read it because I wanted to know how the book and movie compared and get the "real" story. Movies tend to put their own twist on the story. Differences between the movie and the book do exist such as the movie toned Scottie's lanaguage vs. in the book and Sid calls Julie and tells her what's going on and I don't recall that being in the movie. Plus, it has been a while since I have seen the movie.
I recently finished The Black Dahlia and yesterday finished Equal Rites. The last 1/4 of Black Dahlia was excellent and I thought Equal Rites was much better thanThe Color of Magic. I will definitely read more of both series.
Now I'm reading Casino Royale.

Karen M wrote: "Well, I finished A Game of Thrones which was a great read and I have a hold on A Clash of Kings but in the mean time I'm reading something completely different, Tipping the Velvet and then hopefull..."Are you liking Tipping the Velvet? I have read several of Sara Waters' books and have liked them very much. I like the way she writes.

Cool Paula. and woo woo for Iowa!! I am originally from there :)
I've just finished "Gone Girl" and Alan Garner's latest, "Boneland". I'm currently making my way through Volume One of "The Walking Dead" and have both Gwenda Bond's "Blackwood" and Elizabeth Hand's "Generation Loss" ready to make a start on as well.
I finished
by Donald McCaig earlier today. Basically the storyline of the novel is Gone With the Wind from Rhett Butler's point of view and it was a bit of a disappointment really. Gone With the Wind is one of my favourite novels and I found all the characters in RBP, even the major ones of Rhett and Scarlett, are out of character. There is also a lot of errors that contradict the original, characters dying when they lived in GWTW and vice versa, Melanie knowing about Scarlet being in love with her husband, etc. As a standalone historical fiction novel, Rhett Butler's People is okay but as a complement to Gone With the Wind it sucks! Now I'm about to start
by Diane Chamberlain.
I am reading Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter and really enjoying it. I picked it up after reading a bunch of glowing reviews and have not been disappointed. The book has multiple different storylines, all set in different places and times, and yet it brings them all together cohesively and meaningfully. I think I am going to be sorry when this one is over. Totally enjoyable.
Did not finish any books this weekend. I did enjoy the time to spent with The Forever Queen this weekend. Not the type of book I read often, but I am really enjoying this one.
