Just finished Divergent! Loved it a ton! I wish I could afford Insurgent, but I was pushing it enough with buying Divergent brand new... On to The Count of Monte Cristo, in all of its unabridged glory.

Layne, yeah, The Phantom of the Opera was very slow-moving. I got through books 4-7 of Harry Potter faster than I got through The Phantom of the Opera.

Hmmm...Harry Potter book or Phantom of the Opera? Not sure it was much of a competition in terms of which one you'd rather pick up :D

I finally finished the series this year so don't feel bad. I think there may have been a lot of us who read it as slowly as possible.

Karen M | 1956 comments I'm reading Lie Down in Green Pastures, the third book in this cozy mystery series which I am enjoying. I'm almost finished with Angels and Demons which I've read was not as good as the other two in the series but I'm enjoying it. My third book is A Hope Undaunted which (sigh) is the first in a series. I'm trying to finish all these series I've started and then I go and start another one!

I have that one on my list.

message 27139: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Finished three more and closing in on a fourth. What Was She Thinking?: Notes on a Scandal What Was She Thinking? Notes on a Scandal by Zoë Heller , which I liked but I liked the movie too so I expected to like this.

Oddly, the other three are all set in the 1920s. It's unusual for me to group books in time like that. And I was afraid it would get confusing but actually it just kind of enriched the experience.

Murder Your Darlings Murder Your Darlings (An Algonquin Round Table Mystery #1) by J.J. Murphy which is another in the Dorothy Parker/Algonquin Round Table series. Love the stories but about three times I was thrown off by anachronisms. He needs to watch that.

Bright Young Things Bright Young Things (Bright Young Things, #1) by Anna Godbersen -- I enjoyed her "Luxe" series and I liked this well enough to bump the sequel ahead of its place on my list.

Requiem for a Mezzo Requiem for a Mezzo (Daisy Dalrymple, #3) by Carola Dunn which is third in the Daisy Dalrymple mystery series. These are well-crafted with well-fleshed out characters. They aren't un-put-down-able, but they are very good.

Paula I'm reading Loving Frank by Nancy Horan.

message 27143: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rae1992) I am currently reading fifty shades of gray and I'm 85% of the way through (in kindle speak.) After the shock factor wore off (I genuinely did not have a clue about the S&M culture surrounding it) I found myself irritated by the poor writing and tedious repetitive language and scenes. I don't think I would recommend it to anyone although the topic area is very risque for a number one kindle best seller.

Rachel, I don't normally read these type of books but because they are banning it from some libraries I put it on hold for my Kindle, I'm the 224th person on the list! LOL

message 27145: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rae1992) I think the only reason it is so popular is because everyone keeps buying it and it goes up the charts. It would be a lot better if it was shorter. But the more the author intrigues you with the plot the more they irritate you with the constant repetition. I'm going to read till the end as it's not my style to not finish a book, I'll let you know if it improves, and if I plan to read the rest of the trilogy. Rach
