Anne - Don't be scared off because of the ending of
In the Woods. It is definitely worth reading and introduces you to some characters that are in The Likeness. IMO, they are well written books and hard to put down.

Just a reader of all three (so far) of Tana French's novels. I enjoyed them all. I'd have to go back to The Woods to know why some others were disappointed. I liked Faithful Place the best because of the romance angle and the crazy dysfunctional families.

Razmatus | 23 comments Memories of Ice (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #3) by Steven Erikson Just such a good book, right now reading a part concerning the siege of Capustan, he sure knows how to write thrilling battle and war sequences :P

message 27055: by Michael (new)

Michael (book_nerd1991) I finished Don't Look Now, forgettable, boring and lame. This is like the third book that is disappointing me, not a good feeling:(

I am about to begin The Best a Man Can Get: A Novel.

message 27056: by Angela (new)

Angela Sellers I'm still reading Les Miserables. It's an awesome novel, but so, so long. I hope to finish it soon, so that I can finally read something else...

message 27057: by Scott (new)

Scott | 257 comments I finished Sandstorm and Material Witness.

I am currently reading Mile 81 and I should be able to finish that on the way home so that I can start The Wind Through the Keyhole tonight.

Hi Angela, I read Les Mis a few months ago and agree - awesome novel but way too long! It's so beautifully written though, otherwise I may have had to give up before I finally got through it. In the end I think it was worth it. I've seen the play and really liked it, but the movie (the one with Liam Neeson) was incredibly disappointing. They didn't capture the powerful, charismatic, kindhearted essence of Valjean at all. Anyway, hang in there, you'll be glad you stuck with it!

Agreed. I really enjoyed that series, too.

I just finished The Cat's Table and didn't enjoy it.
However, I just started The Monk and it's going to be a fun read, I think. Very humerous.

Ted Magnuson (tedmagnuson) | 7 comments I just started reading 'American Sniper.' The author is a rough and tumble hard guy with personality. With assistance from the man behind the Richard Marcinko saga. It's a fast paced lively read. That's an acheivment considering snipers spend three hour shifts scanning a site for a kill. American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History

Reading Jose Saramago's Manual of Painting and Calligraphy. This is his first novel, but the newest to be translated.

SO unlike his others. You can tell he was much much younger when he wrote this one!

Karen M | 1956 comments Decided to start Angels and Demons today. First I read The Da Vinci Code because someone I worked with had just started reading it and wanted someone to discuss it with them. This same person gave me Angels and Demons a few months later but I didn't get around to reading it. Then my brother loaned me The Lost Symbol and I felt I had to read that so I could give it back to him. So, finally I'm reading the first book in the series.

message 27087: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Thibeault (thebookreporter) | 76 comments Just finished `Imagine: How Creativity Works` by Jonah Lehrer. The book explores creativity in individuals, groups, businesses & organizations, cities and societies. The work is heavy on anecdotes (as books by journalists tend to be) but also does a good job of covering the science of creativity that is emerging out of experiments and studies in neuroscience and social psychology. There is much to be learned about creativity here, and how we can get more of it in our personal lives and in the groups, organizations, cities and societies of which we are a part. I`ve written an executive-style summary of the book available at newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com

Cheers,
Aaron

Caity (adivineeternity) I finally got Divergent last week, and had to force myself to finish The Phantom of the Opera before I could start. Well, I finished Phantom of the Opera (good book, if not what I expected).

Hurray for starting Divergent at last! Not far into it, but enjoying it already. Should be a nice quick read to serve a break before I venture back into the world of French literature with The Count of Monte Cristo.

Also working on The Lord of the Rings, which is a reread so I'm not as concerned about reading it regularly.

I had a tough time with The Phantom of the Opera when I read it too, but I liked The Count of Monte Cristo quite a bit; it was easier to follow for me. I hope you find similar success. I also loved Divergent and am excited because I just got the sequel, Insurgent:)
