Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments I just DNFed a romance because I decided with the amount of great books on my shelves I can afford to show myself some compassion.
Instead I started First Drop of Crimson which was probably not a wise choice as it is a paranormal romance.
Next I have promised myself I will start Our Mutual Friend.

I'm wondering if there should be a sarcasm tag at the end of your comment!!
First Drop of Crimson is OK so far but standard stuff: gorgeous tall, dark vampire; attractive woman; 'circumstances'; 'dilemmas' and irresistibly delicious blood.
I have several of the type on my shelf but sometimes I think I should forget them all and just snuggle up with Sookie Stackhouse.

No I really find it interesting because of the title. I find it mysterious, so many meanings and so many images of crimson, of different kinds of crimson =P

Razmatus | 23 comments Gardens of the Moon, so far it is pretty good... less detailed and such, but larger scope and more action, while still staying pretty intricate and clever

The crimson attracted me too. Of course it is the crimson of blood because it is a vampire tale.

Wow i love vampire stories but I prefer our Filipino version, the shapeshifting flesh-eating one. I am finishing a novella soon called "Love in the Time of Demons" would you like to read it?

Sounds interesting. Is it a paraody on Love in the Time of Cholera where there is an epidemic of demons who kill, in many painful ways, the original characters from the story? Or would that just be wishful thinking on my part? :0)

message 26814: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just finished my penpal read (for another group) for the month. I don't think either of us was blown away by it, although for me it got better as it went along. It was The Borgia Bride. I think one reason I liked The Devil's Queen: A Novel of Catherine de Medici better than this book by the same author is that Catherine de Medici seemed to be more an active shaper of her circumstance, whereas the main character of this book was mostly stuck being acted upon by circumstances she couldn't fully influence, and her frustration became my own.

Wow the books you've read seems so attractive. Are they demonic? Are there demons involved?

Kristen, glad you have found and are enjoying this book! I read it when I was 12 and we were visiting my grandparents. It was her book and I just took it out to see what it was and couldn't put it down. I have seen the movie enough that I can do ALL the parts! LOL I also have a collection of the dolls and other memorabillia. Obviously my favorite story ever. : )

message 26834: by Michael (new)

Michael (book_nerd1991) I just finished Nightlife: A Novel, I got to 100 and threw it across the room. It was not my type of thriller:( It had a few highs and lows but never held my interest.

I am about to begin Wrong Place, Wrong Time, I really hope this does not disappoint. After two back to back horrible books, hope this does not disappoint:) pray as I read that this does not turn out bad LOL

It took me a while to get into it, just because I went into it not really knowing what to expect out of it. But once I sat back and just immersed myself in the story, it became quite enjoyable!

message 26836: by tiasreads (new)

tiasreads I was reading O Jerusalem, but put it down briefly to read The Baker's Daughter, which is crazy good. I'm also trying valiantly to slog through The Highest Stakes, but it's slow going.

I don't have so bad opinion about this book, especially because I was reading much more (for me) worse books recently and all of them just in row. So this one - even not a worst.
It's regular thriller and I read already very similar stories, but still it keeps my interest

message 26840: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1956 comments I'm reading a strange little book called The Long Midnight Of Barney Thomson, some parts are funny but I'm not sure they are meant to be funny! I'm also reading Wild & Steamy which is exactly that, LOL. Three novellas, the first of which introduced me to streampunk, which I rather liked. Second story is shapeshifting and gets graphic and wild. Just about to start the last story.
