What are you reading?
I'm currently reading Perfect on Paper: The (Mis)Adventures of Waverly Bryson, which is a fun, smartly written chick lit novel. And I'd like to mention my new novel, The Flower Bowl Spell. It's got urban witches, fairies, snappy dialog, rock and roll, and characters with murderous intentions. Check it out, and thank you!
Hey guys.. Been listening to Castle on audio this week. Very strange book.. and the narrator is weird.
Just started reading Under the Poppy. This sounds really good, and so far it's off to a good start. It's set in brothel during the war, there's a sort of love triangle between the two owners and a puppeteer....

It is not as good as some of his others, but it is a little creepy.

I have never read a book of his I didn't like. His Odd Thomas book series are great!
I finished Blood Bond today and thought that overall it was really good. I'm currently over half way thru Promises which I have loved so far. This one has been hard to put down. I've also just started Robopocalypse
I'm reading
by James Patterson. Now about Half way through and this is a fantastic book if you like Patterson.
I just finished reading Defending Jacob: A Novel
. This is a excellent courtroom drama mystery. It starts slowly, drawing you in like an anaconda systematically squeezing its victim. By the time you reach the middle, you are trapped, the book stuck to your hands as the air is squeezed out of you. The story keeps changing as surprising revelations are casually dropped in your lap until you read the last two scenes with your mouth hanging open, finishing with a satisfying "Whoosh" for your last breath. Then the book lives with your for days afterward as you replay scenes in your mind. For me, that's what indicates a book deserves 5 stars. I highly recommend it!
Still slowly, on purpose, reading the final Harry Potter but I am also reading a sweet little book called A King in a Court of Fools about five siblings growing up in middle class suburbia. So many things mentioned are right out of my own childhood. And today I received the email from the digital library, One Day is ready for pick up!!
I'm gonna check out "Defending Jacob". I am currently reading "Dust Tracks on a Road " by Zora Neale Hurston, I am glad I took a chance on this book. It's a wonderful book.

That is what I've heard, that the Odd Thomas books are good. I'll have to check those out. I have the first one but haven't read it yet. Thanks.!

. I loved that book!
I just finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and was totally underwhelmed. I didn't hate it, it was just kind of... meh. I also read Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half with America's Cheapest Family: Includes So Many Innovative Strategies You Won't Have to Cut Coupons, which was extremely informative. Not sure what I'll read next.
I'm currently reading "1000 autumns of Jacob de Zoet" and "Macbeth". I'm halfway through the first one, and I can't decide whether I like it or not... As to the second, I wish I could just close my eyes to all the blood!
I'm reading Bengali Girls Don't and still plugging through Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything. I'm doing two read-alouds with my students:
Milkweed, which I love, love, love and
Okay for Now, which I have also discovered I love.
Moby-Dick - finally - it was on my mental list to read. I knew what is about, I knew famous first lines..... Just didn't read it (it was not so popular like in U.S.A and was not in any school/college programs in country there I'm from). It's apparently very long story! so far I liked it very much!
Swapnil wrote: "I just finished The Descendants: A Novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings..A great read which you may know is now a great movie as well.."Thanks for the positive comments. I plan to start reading this one soon.
Back To Work: Why We Need Smart Government For A Strong EconomyI just picked this one up. Bill Clinton has come back from his humanitarian work to author this political book. His comments on "what politicans say and what they" do are right on the money. We need more public figures who say what they mean and mean what they say.
I have been reading a LOT of books about the Holocaust because of my class that I am in this semester about this. I have read within the last two weeks time frame The Reader, Holocaust Poetry, Survival in Auschwitz, Maus I: My Father Bleeds History, and Maus II: And Here My Troubles Began. This just names the Holocaust books that I have read this month thus far. I am moving onto the book Ross Poldark next so that I have something not related to the Holocaust. :-)
Finished
by James Patterson. Fantastic book couldn't put it down. Now I'm about to start
by Michael Crichton. Anyone have comments on this book.

And by love, I mean that it interests and fascinates me; I never knew how to express that withouth sounding psychotic. I devour anything about the Holocaust and mostly about WWII in general, but have missed some of the ones you mentioned, will be adding them to my list. Thanks for sharing! Hope your class goes well!

Are you liking this book? I found it very confusing and a slow read.

So I had about 7 books going and wasn't making significant progress anywhere. Finished two, most of the way through most of the others, zeroed in last couple days on two of them: Bad Luck And Trouble on audio and The Tin Roof Blowdown. Enjoying both but The Tin Roof Blowdown-- well, first of all it's set right after Katrina which is horrific. Second, I recently read a book several books farther in in this series, one in which the main character never once mentioned his daughter- who has always been a main focus. So for him to NEVER mention her makes me think something awful happened. Now I'm reading one of the in-between books I missed- The Tin Roof Blowdown-- and reading every page with my heart in my throat, because the daughter is a character in this one and a psychopath has met her.....

Glad you're liking it! That's one of my favorites!
Yesterday I finished One Day by David Nicholls. I liked it. :) Now I've started Before I Go to Sleep by SJ Watson. I read half of it yesterday, it's a really quick, absorbing read so far.
I just started Invisbile by Lorean McCourtney. She has written several crime books. Her writing is different. The characters are funny and Ivy Malon, the main character in this book, has a curiosity that sometimes gets her into trouble. I've only read about 50 pages, just picked it up this morning, and find it funny very humorous.

Yeah, I wasn't super crazy about Dexter either, which I think was a big reason I didn't like the book as much as I could have. I liked Emma, but didn't connect with anyone tons. Let me know what you think as you get further in. :)

The Tin Roof Blowdown
. Just finished this and I feel like I just drew breath for the first time in days. The tension was subtle but pervasive!
I finished Assassin's Creed: Renaissance and Very Valentine. I loved both in different ways and same ways. Tomorrow I will start reading Il Principe

I LOVED One Day. It is one of my favorite books. The movie is not as good, but still worth seeing. Enjoy!
