Cassie (CassieWinters) I just finished The Alchemist. It was a really good book and one that was very inspirational. Very glad I finally read it after several years of it being recommended to me. Now I am moving onto a more fun read for me with Infinite Crisis: The Novel. Welp, decided to change my mind. I am not reading the Infinite Crisis book I am actually reading Tales of the City

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 26 comments I'm on the second book in Lili St. Crow's Strange Angels (Strange Angels, #1) by Lili St. Crow series; Betrayals (Strange Angels, #2) by Lili St. Crow . Its good but not as good as Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead in my opinion but I do have three and a half more books to go. Perhaps I should hold off on making a decision on which series I like better until after I've finished all the books.

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments It's been ages since I've checked this thread!

I am currently reading Napoleon's Pyramids from William Dietrich. I am about 3 chapters in right now, and so far I'm enjoying it. This is my first attempt at reading an ebook, my hubby got me an iPad for Christmas, so I'm testing the waters here. I didn't have a great reading year in 2011, a lot of the books I read we're duds, so I'm hoping 2012 will be better when incomes to my reading choices.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Hey guys... I just finished reading Baby Geisha, which releases through Two Dollar Radio in January...

and started Panic Attack, USA a few hours ago. I am in love with this book. The poems are outrageous and snarky and the writing comes together so perfectly at times. This is my first go at reviewing Yes Yes Books Publishing, and it's definitely a winner!

By the way.. as you read really great books, feel free to give them a shout out on Twitter using the #nextbestbook hashtag. I'm trying to extend our TNBBC-ness out into the world.. and what better way to do so than by sharing our love of really great books?

Linda: I'm so glad to hear that it didn't disappoint you. I'm a huge SK fan, there's just something about his writing that grabs me, but I too have had my share of disappointments with him. Some of his books are so good and then when you get to the ending you're some how let down. Like Under the Dome. I really thought it was sooo good and then when the explanation was presented I was very disappointed. Kind of like the LOST finale' if you're a LOST fan.

Anyway, I started it on Christmas night (it was a present) and I'm already on pg. 250. I always have to make myself put his books down. I could easily ignore the rest of my life and sit and read for a couple of days til it's done, but I want to savor it so I'm only reading it at night.

For anyone else that's considering reading
11/22/63 I say give it a whirl. It's not what I would classify as his horror genre books. It is gory in parts, but not to bad for him. It involves time travel (or a time portal), history from 58 - now which I find priceless, and a huge story entirely apart from JFK's assassination.

message 26235: by tiasreads (new)

tiasreads I just finished Madame Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution. It was slow to start, but then got much better. I really like Michelle Moran's books, you can tell she puts a lot of research into them. I don't usually put a lot of stock in the 'history' found in most historical fiction, but I always enjoy reading her spin on historical events.

Now I'm reading Moloka'i and it has been quite good so far. I enjoyed Alan Brennert's Honolulu and have been anticipating this second book. It has not disappointed.

Rebecca Burke | 10 comments Emilly R., Agree--it's a fine book. I just added a review about GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING to its Amazon book page, which has dozens and dozens of other positive reviews. I'd written it a while back for a newspaper and while retrieving stuff from a former laptop thought I might as well post some of the reviews I wrote for books I really, really liked. You might also like Girl in Hyacinth Blue, which is about painting and the Dutch Golden Age, and lovely. That whole period of history is so rich and Vermeer's career so "murky" (why only 30-some paintings--what was holding him back--perfectionism, family life, poverty, etc.).

Loved Molokai. Informative and at the same time so emotionally charged. Cried a bit with this one. Also read Honolulu. Thought Molokai was better, but that might just have been because I read it first.

What do you think of "Caleb's Crossing"? I was a little disappointed, as I loved her other books, although her sense of place is fantastic.
