I'm a decent chunk of the way into Beatitude by Larry Closs. It focuses heavily on these two guys who are obsessed with the beat generation... and Jack K.

Despite the fact that I've never read the beats... I am quite enjoying this novel!

It's so sad, and human and bright story

What did you think of The Book Thief? I finished it last month and then am now reading The Annotated Peter Pan (The Centennial Edition). It's interesting to see where Brom looked for his inspiration and how he retold the classic story.

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 73 comments I'm reading Her Fearful Symmetry and Bill Warrington's Last Chance: A Novel. I haven't had much time to read lately, so I feel like I'm falling way behind.

I loved The Book Thief. It's not forgettable. I'm reading the other books, but somehow this book popping up in my mind and memory again and again.

message 26111: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 73 comments Krista- I read The Time Traveler's Wife not too long ago and enjoyed it. I'd also heard good things about Her Fearful Symmetry (without really knowing what it was about), but I didn't realize that it was by the same author until I happened upon it at the library and decided to check it out.
I'm really enjoying it and the characters/plot definitely keep me interested.

message 26112: by Beth (new)

Beth I just finished Cutting for Stone, which was a phenomenal read, even though it's not a mystery, but a family saga. The author is a doctor, so there are a lot of medical situations in the book, and the India/Ethiopia/US settings are very interesting. I learned a lot!

I've started reading an old favorite, Murder on the Orient Express. Since I'm writing a variant of a locked-room mystery (a group of whitewater rafters stuck in a remote river canyon with a killer, in my case), I thought I'd return to this locked-room mystery written by a master, for inspiration.

Steph (somethingplace) | 79 comments I am reading Pure and Eon: Dragoneye Reborn and they're both great! Pure is just a very dark and gritty dystopia scenario. It feels more real than other dystopian books because it's based on a world altered by an atomic bomb.

Eon is also very interesting. I love anything based on dragons. Plus it has a very Tamora Pierce vibe to it. Anyone read it? I know the sequel is already out.

Oh, my bad! I'm all confused.

Okay, I have read The Book Thief and loved it and do find myself thinking about it often. In my post, however, I meant The Child Thief. That is the one I recently finished and have found myself also randomly thinking about.

I am greatly enjoying The Annotated Peter Pan (The Centennial Edition). Learning Barrie's history and Pan's back story and comparing it with Brom's interpretation of The Child Thief has been interesting.

I also just DVRed Neverland on the SciFi channel and look forward to watching that as well. If I understand correctly, it's what happens before Pan makes it to Neverland.

While I'm on the Pan flight, I think I may also rent Finding Neverland. I've seen it before, but think it would take on a whole new meaning now that I know more about Barrie.

Okay, I think I'm all updated now and corrected with the two similar book titles. :o) Thanks for catching the mix up, Jane!

message 26128: by Jane (new)

Jane | 221 comments Krista - Thanks for all your information. I was so fascinated by Brom's Child Thief I was going to read the James Barrie version and got off subject. You've re-fired my interest. I have DVR'd Neverland also but haven't gotten to it yet.

And I loved The Book Thief it's in my top 20 list of all time!

Renee (pontiacgal501) | 70 comments I just finished Coming Of Age In Mississippi by Anne Moody. This was a interesting read about a girl coming of age during the Civil Rights movement of the 1950's and 1960's.

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 26 comments I just finished up Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie and am now reading Prized (Birthmarked, #2) by Caragh M. O'Brien . After which I will pop open my Kindle reader app to read Tortured (Birthmarked, #1.5) by Caragh M. O'Brien because I can't find an ePub version of it I can get without having to use a credit card. It is a free ebook. I was able to get a Kindle formatted copy without the use of a credit card so when the time arrives to start reading it I will just have to download and install the Kindle for Android app onto my Tablet and read it with that instead of my standby reading app of Aldiko. Wow, sorry for the rambling. So to reiterate; I'm currently reading Prized (Birthmarked, #2) by Caragh M. O'Brien by Caragh M. O'Brien. Happy reading, y'all.

I really liked it but found the subject matter depressing. I thought it was very well written and kept me turning the pages. Its hard to believe people could treat other people like this but I guess its an important part of American history.
