message 25401: by tiasreads (new)

tiasreads I'm in the middle of Juliet and it's pretty good so far. I had to stop part-way in and reread Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet online to clear some things up.

For fans of The Help, I saw the movie today and it was really good. For once, the movie lived up to the book for me.

Cidney Swanson Glad to hear you thought THE HELP movie lives up to the book. I really really loved that book and have been nervous that the movie might disappoint.

Yassemin (yas666) | 42 comments I'm reading:

In paper back from the library, The Firm My first by him after all this time despite hearing so many good things about him so lets see how it goes.

I'm also reading on kindle- A Child al Confino: The True Story of a Jewish Boy and His Mother in Mussolini’s Italy which is a different take on WW2 and the Holocaust period. Its very distressing as is the period in which it covers but I am still nonetheless enjoying it, its a fantastic read and such a different take on a well known story, it covers jews in Italy as opposed to jews in Germany. Brilliant!

message 25427: by Carol (last edited Aug 19, 2011 11:51AM) (new)

Carol (peppersgirl) Madame Tussaud A Novel of the French Revolution by Michelle Moran .Madame Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution by Michelle Moran I won this book through good-reads first reads and have been really enjoying it. This is the first book I've read by this author she does a great job of taking you through history without realizing how much you are learning. To me that is what makes a good historical novel when you get so wrapped up in the story you don't realize that you learned something too. I will pick up more books by this author in the future.

How is "Dracula In Love"?"

Hi Cate! I'm just about done, and have really enjoyed it. It is not necessary to have read the original Dracula to enjoy Dracula in Love, but I am glad I did (even if it did kill my 5-book lead towards my goal for this year). I like seeing how this take on the classic novel differs from Stoker's story. I'm about 50 pages from the end, so you know there will be no sleeping tonight until I'm finished. Would have had it done already but there was a football game on tonight. *g*

Spicedmama "Love In The Time Of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marouez. I have been reading it for a few months, mostly because I've been busy, and I've read other things in between. It's one of my summer books, of which I have 2 more to finish before the official end of summer, so I better get a move on!

I realize that I'm a little late replying here, but I have to say that I totally agree! I had such high hopes for this one, but it felt like any old run of the mill mystery novel to me.

I don't think it helped that I read it right after Turn of Mind by Alice LaPlante -- felt too similar (memory issues + mystery), though I've had a harder time deciding how I felt about the latter.
