Regolith by Brent Reilly

Casey | 4 comments I just finished Water for Elephants and am now starting Gone with the Wind. I'm really excited to read it. It seems like a daunting task since it's so long, but everyone tells me it goes so fast and that it's one of the best books they have read. I'm also into reading about the South at the moment. Before I read Water for Elephants I was reading two books about the Civil War.

Casey - you should enjoy Gone with the Wind. I read it when I was young and really enjoyed it - it really conveys a feeling of being there so with your recent reading on the Civil War it should be really interesting. I added GWTW to my TBR list about a month ago as I had been reminded how good it was and wanted to experience again. Let us know how you like it!

Next I'll be reading The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood.

Tad (tottman) I'm reading Lion of Babylon by Davis Bunn and Embedded by Dan Abnett. Very different types of books but both quite enjoyable so far.

message 24538: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I finished The Meaning of Night: A Confession and was kinda disappointed. I expected it to be much better. I also finshed Tipping the Velvet which I loved. It got a rare 5 stars.

I think I'm gonna start The Wise Man's Fear

message 24539: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments i finished Fools Rush In yesterday. nothing spectacular, but a decent read. i picked up that along with The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and The Woman in White for a total of $3 at our library book sale, so i'm ok with that.

i'm still plugging away at Child 44. i like it, and i like the writing, but it just is a bit too heavy for me right now. i'm debating on renewing it for 3 more weeks to keep at it or just return it and try again another time.

Sylvain Reynard (sylvainreynard) Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the group and this is my first post.
I wanted to introduce myself and say hello.

I'm stuck in the past, I think, because I'm currently reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." It seems like many people have already moved on from that book to it's sequels ... but I'm enjoying it.

I'm intrigued by the reading list for April - I haven't heard of any of the books listed. When I researched this club it was clear to me that my reading horizons would be broadened. So thank you for that and thank you for the April choices.

All the best,
SR

Hi Mark,
I read MA's "Meditations." It's a great read. I found a lot of its elements when I re-watched the film "Gladiator," with Russell Crowe. I think Tony Scott and Crowe purposely included some of those ideas in the dialogue.
All best,
SR

Welcome to the group! :) I just recently read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and it's sequels- loved them! :) Enjoy you enjoy them.

That is my favorite thing about this group- hearing about books I wouldn't have otherwise heard of. :) There are so many of my favorite books that I found out about through this group. Hope you enjoy it here!

Meg (mkop359) Clara wrote: "Everyone seems to love Water for Elephants. Why am I struggling with it?"

Hey, Clara. I must be a misfit too. I read that book last year and struggled the whole way through. It will definitely not be on my list of books to revisit anytime soon. My mother and sister both loved it though. Maybe with the new movie coming out I'll find I can enjoy it more after seeing a film version? (yeah, right. When does that ever work out?)

Anyway - hello to all. I'm new this month and looking forward to the new book ideas. I am currently reading:

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
A Concise History of the Catholic Church by Thomas Bokenkotter
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
and
The Ditchdigger's Daughter by Yvonne S. Thornton

I have this problem, see, with reading too many books at one time...

Hello Allison and Jeane,
It's good to meet you.

I'm wondering if you (or others?) are reading one of the 3 books recommended for April? I'm ordering "The Ghost Trap" based on Lori's review. It sounds interesting.

All best,
SR
