Gitte (gittetofte) I'm reading A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore - I needed something light and fun after reading Virginia Woolf ;-)

Oooh, thanks Petra that is good to know. I finally finished it, but it really was like pulling teeth. I will give the third book a shot to see if the series can win my affections back.

I have had to push Room slightly down the list becase I won a FirstReads copy of Townie by Andre Dubus III so I am about to start that now. After that, onto Room.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Don't have a fiction going, and am contemplating Burr, by Gore Vidal.

message 24357: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) I started Under Fire: A Century Of War Movies last week when I went home, and I'm about to start Uncle Stephen's Just After Sunset which is actually a re-read.

Ugh, I'm glad to hear you guys struggled to get through Dragonfly In Amber too. I've been plugging away at it for months, and just can't get into it. I keep putting it down and reading other stuff. Bah. Glad it's not just me.

How are the rest in the series, Petra? Is it worth continuing on to the next books? I loved Outlander so much, it sucks that this one is so slow.

It will restore your affections, of that I have faith. It's a great series (although I haven't read A Breath Of Snow And Ashes yet or any beyond that).

Petra Allison wrote: "How are the rest in the series, Petra? Is it worth continuing on to the next books? I loved Outlander so much, it sucks that this one is so slow. ..."

Definitely. Although this one is slow, there's a few important characters and events that influence the story later on. But that whole French court thing was boring, dull, yawn! Pay attention to the people and events, rather than the historical aspect.

My husband loved Burr! I haven't read it, myself, though I've read other books by Vidal and have Lincoln on my TBR list.

Currently I'm reading In the Time of the Butterflies and Rashomon and Seventeen Other Stories.

I agree w/Petra too. I have read all of them up to "A Breath of Snow and Ashes." I found that "The Fiery Cross" was a bit slow for me, but the rest of the series is fabulous IMO.

message 24374: by Flora (new)

Petra Kelly wrote: "I agree w/Petra too. I have read all of them up to "A Breath of Snow and Ashes." I found that "The Fiery Cross" was a bit slow for me, but the rest of the series is fabulous IMO. ..."

Kelly, it's true that the story drags a bit in The Fiery Cross but the information we get about the Time Travel phenomenon made the book worth it. Also, Ian becomes a much larger character and I like him so I was glad about that.
....I really need to read A Breath of Snow And Ashes sooner rather than later.

Linda Linda wrote: "Just finished Blood Memory by Greg Iles and gave it a 3.6. Better in the end than in the beginning. But I guess that is what you might want in a mystery." I've read several of Iles's books. I liked them all. I have a pet peeve about titles that tell you nothing about what the book is about so I am not sure which one Blood Memory was but I'm sure I read it.

I'm about half way through and the story is very good. It's definitely about some hard-knock lives in Appalachia. I'm hoping there's a little redemption... I'll let you know what I think when I'm done!
