I'm reading A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore - I needed something light and fun after reading Virginia Woolf ;-)

Petra wrote: "Monef wrote: "I finished Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and really enjoyed it so I jumped right into Dragonfly in Amber by her too, but that was a huge mistake. It is dragging..."Oooh, thanks Petra that is good to know. I finally finished it, but it really was like pulling teeth. I will give the third book a shot to see if the series can win my affections back.
I have had to push Room slightly down the list becase I won a FirstReads copy of Townie by Andre Dubus III so I am about to start that now. After that, onto Room.
About 1/2 way through Dangerous Heat by Jance. It was good enough to inspire a copycat dream when i fell asleep reading it last night!
I started
Under Fire: A Century Of War Movies
last week when I went home, and I'm about to start Uncle Stephen's
Just After Sunset
which is actually a re-read.
Petra wrote: "Monef wrote: "I finished Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and really enjoyed it so I jumped right into Dragonfly in Amber by her too, but that was a huge mistake. It is dragging..."Ugh, I'm glad to hear you guys struggled to get through Dragonfly In Amber too. I've been plugging away at it for months, and just can't get into it. I keep putting it down and reading other stuff. Bah. Glad it's not just me.
How are the rest in the series, Petra? Is it worth continuing on to the next books? I loved Outlander so much, it sucks that this one is so slow.
Monef wrote: "Oooh, thanks Petra that is good to know. I finally finished it, but it really was like pulling teeth. It's a great series (although I haven't read A Breath Of Snow And Ashes yet or any beyond that).
Allison wrote: "How are the rest in the series, Petra? Is it worth continuing on to the next books? I loved Outlander so much, it sucks that this one is so slow. ..."Definitely. Although this one is slow, there's a few important characters and events that influence the story later on. But that whole French court thing was boring, dull, yawn! Pay attention to the people and events, rather than the historical aspect.
Petra wrote: "Maria, I just compared books with you. Of the books we've both read, our ratings are very similar. Going by that, I would recommend you read Child 44. It's on your TBR list, it's f..."
thanks Petra! i'll see if the library has it. it's been out awhile so hopefully it will be available.
Susanna wrote: "Don't have a fiction going, and am contemplating Burr, by Gore Vidal."My husband loved Burr! I haven't read it, myself, though I've read other books by Vidal and have Lincoln on my TBR list.
Currently I'm reading In the Time of the Butterflies and Rashomon and Seventeen Other Stories.
I am reading The Bards of Bone Plain, which is, as always for Patricia McKillip, wonderful.Next up for our local book club is The Help, which is great, I've wanted to read that for awhile, now I can put priority on it.
Just went to Julie Kramer's book signing. Vvery ineresting lady. Investigative reporter/producer. That is how she got started with her writing
Maria wrote: "Child 44. thanks Petra! i'll see if the library has it. it's been out awhile so hopefully it will be available. ..."
I hope you enjoy it, Maria. Let me know!
Petra wrote: "Monef wrote: "Oooh, thanks Petra that is good to know. I finally finished it, but it really was like pulling teeth. I found that "The Fiery Cross" was a bit slow for me, but the rest of the series is fabulous IMO.
Now finishingout the Lucy Valentine Series with Absolutely, Positively. I need a little chicklit now and then.
I am almost finished with Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption (holy cow what an amazing story!!!) and will pick up Clockwork Angel next, which I am REALLY excited about b/c I loved the Mortal Instruments series.
Flora wrote: "Kelly, I thought that Clockwork Angel was even better than MI series."I have heard that from other people as well, that makes me even more excited!
Kelly wrote: "I agree w/Petra too. I have read all of them up to "A Breath of Snow and Ashes." Also, Ian becomes a much larger character and I like him so I was glad about that.
....I really need to read A Breath of Snow And Ashes sooner rather than later.
Donna wrote: "Now finishingout the Lucy Valentine Series with Absolutely, Positively. I need a little chicklit now and then."I know what you're saying... :) I personally, always grab Sophie Kinsella or Marian Keyes when I'm in need :)
I just finished Tehanu and really loved it.I'm gonna try to finish Kraken and then start The Wise Man's Fear
I'm about halfway through The Help for my book club next week, and I'm loving it! Very well written and a really interesting plot.Janny wrote: "I am reading The Bards of Bone Plain, which is, as always for Patricia McKillip, wonderful.

I finished The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson which I really enjoyed. It's an unique and entertaining read! Now I've moved on to By the Light of My Father's Smile by Alice Walker. Very sexual in nature so far.
I am 50 or so pages shy of finishing Dangerous Heat by Jance. So tonight when I go home that's the first thing I'll do and the start A HitchHiker's Guide to the universe which I have wanted to read for ages.
Just finished Blood Memory by Greg Iles and gave it a 3.6. Better in the end than in the beginning. But I guess that is what you might want in a mystery.
Tess wrote: "Just went to Julie Kramer's book signing. Vvery ineresting lady. Investigative reporter/producer. That is how she got started with her writing"You are making me jealous. I love to meet authors and Julie writes some great mysteries!
I started SNAKE SKIN, last night because I needed a break from Great Expectations. I did read a chapter in a deciding what color looks best on you at noon yesterday, but I left book at work so I can't tell you the title. I hope to finish at least one book this weekend.
Reading Bloodroot right now and can't choose between Winter Ghosts, Stay, Tiger Wife or Imperfectionists...
Linda wrote: "Just finished Blood Memory by Greg Iles and gave it a 3.6. Better in the end than in the beginning. But I guess that is what you might want in a mystery." I've read several of Iles's books. I liked them all. I have a pet peeve about titles that tell you nothing about what the book is about so I am not sure which one Blood Memory was but I'm sure I read it.
Heather wrote: "Reading Bloodroot right now and can't choose between Winter Ghosts, Stay, Tiger Wife or Imperfectionists..."How do you like Bloodroot? I've been wanting to read that one.

I'm about half way through and the story is very good. It's definitely about some hard-knock lives in Appalachia. I'm hoping there's a little redemption... I'll let you know what I think when I'm done!
I just finished Room. I thought it was a great read and had trouble putting it down. I'm going to pick up The Hunger Games again (put it down to read Room for the group read).
I finished By the Light of My Father's Smile by Alice Walker and am starting Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth About Pregnancy and Childbirth by Jenny McCarthy.
I just picked up Nocturne from the library this morning. I thought it looked pretty good and I'm already 30 pages into it.
I finished Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth About Pregnancy and Childbirth by Jenny McCarthy and am moving on to Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah.
