I am reading "Let The Great WorldSpin" for a January Book discussion. I am liking it and finding it very puzzleing.
I'm just about to start Sam Lipsyte's The Ask. Finally! Saw him read from it a few months ago, but have been too swamped for a serious splurge on newish fiction until now. Also dying to dig in to Union Atlantic by the always amazing Adam Haslett, also Jonathan Dee's The Priviledges...
I finished Outlander about 20 minutes ago. I'm going to finish It and The Pillars of the Earth before I start the next in the series.
Catie wrote: "What's the verdict Sam? Do you still like it?"I loved it. I couldn't put it down. I finished an 800 page book in 5 days, I think that says something about it haha
I don't know, I just fell in love with Jamie and Claire and their relationship. There were a few raunchy scenes, but I'm not easily offended and it didn't bother me. I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series.
I finished Tales Of A Drama Queen which I thought was good, a lot better than I had expected. I am now reading The Ice Queen and was totally hooked within the first paragraph. I love it so far.
Because it was Christmas Break, (12/23-1/3) I inhaled books. I finished The Red Pyramid by Riordan,Dangerous Fortune by Follett and two cheesy Romances, Ice by Howard and Texas!Chase by Brown. Of the four I'd reccommend Dangerous Fortune with a theme of love verus integrity during the Industrial Revolution.
I am re-reading Southern Christmas Literary Classics of the Holidays, and also readingWhat Should I Do with My Life?: The True Story of People Who Answered the Ultimate Question
Read and enjoyed Alan Heatcock's collection of short stories in Volt: Stories. This one releases in March.... If you would like to see my review - here it is: http://thenextbestbookblog.blogspot.c...
Moved on to Subversia - the author of Banned For Life, which I raved about oh so many months ago. This is a collection of his non-fiction previously published short stories. So far, they are very short and very interesting.
I always wonder what authors think when their life stories are laid out for public scrutiny - that's gotta be so hard to deal with.... When strangers meet them, they already their deepest darkest secrets...

Just about to start The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again! It's rated pretty high by everyone on my friend's list. Never read it before.
Just started Range of Motion by Elizabeth Berg. Goes back and forth between a wife struggling to do what she can to pull her husband out of a coma and the husband's revelations while in a comatose state. Interestingly different.
I'm nearly halfway through I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and am really, really enjoying it thus far.
it's been ages since i've checked this thread!anyway, i finished The Wife's Tale from Lori Lansens today. i started it right after Christmas but didn't get a lot of time to devote to it right away. a nice story, and a good way to kick off 2011!
I just finished the Wolves of Andover - great historical fiction from the Mass Colony in the 1600s. I now have The Secret River to read as well as This I Believe II.
Just finished Slapstick and am starting A Clockwork Orange.Still trudging through Unweaving the Rainbow.
Jacqueline wrote: "Just finished Slapstick and am starting A Clockwork Orange.Still trudging through Unweaving the Rainbow."
I was trying to remember who wrote A Clockwork Orange the other day, because it was on the tip of my tongue, so I asked my father and he gave me a strange look and asked why I would want to read that baha.
That's on my TBR list this year. I hope you enjoy it!
Jacqueline wrote: "Just finished Slapstick and am starting A Clockwork Orange.Still trudging through Unweaving the Rainbow."
I read A Clockwork Orange this last summer and really enjoyed it. The language was difficult for me at first, but it was so worth it. How are you liking it?
I finally finished The Children's Book by A.S Byatt. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it was really tough going and dragged unbearably in parts. it really felt overstuffed, but I'm glad I read it. It did however completely kill my ambition to read 50 books in 2010. I only managed 40. I'll have to try again this year. I'm now reading Starter for Ten: A Novel by David Nichols which I got in a Goodreads giveaway.
I just finished What a Difference a Dog Makes by Dana Jennings. I thought it was great! Very funny and genuine.

I thought it would never end! The storyline and characters were interesting however I definitely agree that it felt "overstuffed". I'll have to look over the thread about this one.
Finished To Kill A Mockingbird earlier today, enjoyed it. I'm about to start The Princess Of Clèves by Marie-Madeleine de LaFayette. Both 1001 list books. I hope to read more from the list this year since I've only read 32 so far.

I think your dad might be referencing that it's a rather dark book; I'm on page thirty something and there have already been beatings, gang fights, rape, and armed robbery. So yeah, not what most fathers want their little offspring reading lol
Leanna - Yeah the language is the hardest part of the book but I seem to be getting the hand of it and can recognize a lot of the more commonly used slang words so I think if I dont take long breaks between readings I should be alright. I'm still rather early in it so not much of an opinion to give but I have the distinct desire to read more so it can't be too bad ;)
I have finished Once Bitten, Twice Shy
2 starsKiss of Midnight
One of the scenes particularly creeped me out -the one where Lucan performs a sexual act on the heroine while she is sleeping. Apart from that it was ok I've been told that the series gets better so I'm not giving up on it yet. 3 starsLast Sacrifice
I found this one very slow until about half way through then it really did pick up and got really exciting that I couldn't put it down. I liked it, but it didn't leave me feeling much afterwards like the previous five novels in this series. It's no Blood Promise BUT still a very good read I love the cover design, The black heart made up of dragons, birds and flowers over the blood red background, the dripping blood effect and the simple silver lettering. 4 starsCatching Fire
a great number of plot twists were beyond anything I had imagined. And I didn't expect so much of it, Rest assured that this book destroys superbly the idea that the second in a trilogy is the weakest. If you have not read The Hunger Games, do so immediately. 5 starsI have started Angels' Blood

I won't have to buy it. You did me a favor. But I will my Room, I hope it is a good read.
I'm trying to read One Hand Clapping, have been on a Scandanavian jag with Out Stealing Horses among others. Spare writing, lots of deep hidden emotion, not a lot of dialogue, you wonder why all that sun doesn't make them happier folks. Any one else feel that way?
I think it's a brilliant idea, have only read the first two pages, on my stack, but have PR stuff to do for my third novel that was just released on Dec 28, so am not reading this week. Maybe after my signing at the Librarian's conference in San Diego, at least on the plane on my Kindle on the way home.
Finished India After Gandhi: The History of the World's Largest Democracylast month. Still reading Ironcrown Moonand started The Name of the Rose: Including Postscript.

I'm currently reading Eating Animals & Thirteen Reasons Why, both interesting & thought-provoking books in their own ways.
I just finished Marked, which despite its negative reviews, I enjoyed. I actually felt the teen talk made it stronger, in believability anyway, and it took the vampire mythos somewhere interesting. Nothing to really use the brain for though.I'm going to start One for the Money today. I've been looking forward to light reads. It seems to be an enduring mood, probably until I hit a really bad one and then I'll want some serious storytelling. :)
Madeline, I just got Marked on my Nook & have heard lots of mixed reviews on it. I'm excited to try it out though. Sometimes I just need a no-brainer read!
I really liked marked, and the series as a whole for the first 4 books. After that is when it goes down hill for me.
I just started A MEMORY BETWEEN US by Sarah Sundin. It's about WWII and takes place in Europe. It's good so far.

But do you like his writing? Will you be reading more Saramago once you finish Blindness?

To be completely honest, I can't actually remember if I did read the epilogue. It was a few years back when I read the series, and that's one of the reasons that I want to reread them!
