KHoopMan (eliza_morgan) | 151 comments Goal: 25 books in 2010. 22 down, 3 to go. Finished and LOVED Life of Pi...just remembered that I read Gossip Girl over the summer and was too ashamed to add it to my list on this site, so good news- 1 book to goal!! (Yes, I'm still ashamed of Gossip Girl... it was terrible and I hated it, but I am using it for my 25!)

I am now reading A Simple Plan.

Good for you. You met your goal. I am hoping to read about 15 books next year since I know I am a slow reader.

message 23710: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I am currently reading Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. I don't know if it's because I'm tired from all teh travelling or what but I'm not entirely feeling the novel (if that makes any sense) at the moment. Might take a break from it, I don't know.

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments I'm reading The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet--it's lovely! But this morning I came home all tired from work and felt like something light so I started My Fair Lazy: One Reality Television Addict's Attempt to Discover If Not Being A Dumb Ass Is the New Black; Or, A Culture-Up Manifesto, which is amusing. I also read Underwear: Fashion in Detail last night at work, which was interesting, with gorgeous photos, but inexpicably did not address the "bullet bra" of the 1950s at all---a shocking oversight IMO.

KHoopMan (eliza_morgan) | 151 comments Aw, thank you guys for the support! I sat down to read The Simple Plan and didn't get up until it was done...it was honestly that suspenseful!

Scott | 257 comments Catie wrote: " Scott, how are you liking the Dark Tower series? I think that Wizard and Glass was my favorite."

I hated The Gunslinger. I read it over 20 years ago and never continued the series because of my hatred for it. I reread it a couple of months ago and still did not like it but everyone told me that it really picks up with the second book. I agree and have been continuing the series ever since. I don't think that the series was King's best work, as some people think, but it is a good story once you get by the first book.

By the way, I thought Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal was one of the funniest books I've ever read.

I loved The Dark Tower Series, and I thought that it was some of his best work. Not THE best, but some of the best. I want to reread this series, I just have so much else to get through.

To be completely honest, I can't actually remember if I did read the epilogue. It was a few years back when I read the series, and that's one of the reasons that I want to reread them!

message 23722: by Nina-Marie (new)

Nina-Marie Gardner | 1 comments I'm just about to start Sam Lipsyte's The Ask. Finally! Saw him read from it a few months ago, but have been too swamped for a serious splurge on newish fiction until now. Also dying to dig in to Union Atlantic by the always amazing Adam Haslett, also Jonathan Dee's The Priviledges...

Samantha Leighanne (sleighanne) Catie wrote: "What's the verdict Sam? Do you still like it?"

I loved it. I couldn't put it down. I finished an 800 page book in 5 days, I think that says something about it haha
I don't know, I just fell in love with Jamie and Claire and their relationship. There were a few raunchy scenes, but I'm not easily offended and it didn't bother me. I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series.

message 23726: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kgansor) | 310 comments I finished Tales Of A Drama Queen which I thought was good, a lot better than I had expected.
I am now reading The Ice Queen and was totally hooked within the first paragraph. I love it so far.

message 23727: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 511 comments Because it was Christmas Break, (12/23-1/3) I inhaled books. I finished The Red Pyramid by Riordan,Dangerous Fortune by Follett and two cheesy Romances, Ice by Howard and Texas!Chase by Brown. Of the four I'd reccommend Dangerous Fortune with a theme of love verus integrity during the Industrial Revolution.

Read and enjoyed Alan Heatcock's collection of short stories in Volt: Stories. This one releases in March.... If you would like to see my review - here it is: http://thenextbestbookblog.blogspot.c...
Moved on to Subversia - the author of Banned For Life, which I raved about oh so many months ago. This is a collection of his non-fiction previously published short stories. So far, they are very short and very interesting.

I always wonder what authors think when their life stories are laid out for public scrutiny - that's gotta be so hard to deal with.... When strangers meet them, they already their deepest darkest secrets...

I was trying to remember who wrote A Clockwork Orange the other day, because it was on the tip of my tongue, so I asked my father and he gave me a strange look and asked why I would want to read that baha.
That's on my TBR list this year. I hope you enjoy it!

I read A Clockwork Orange this last summer and really enjoyed it. The language was difficult for me at first, but it was so worth it. How are you liking it?

message 23749: by Efe (new)

Efe | 181 comments I finally finished The Children's Book by A.S Byatt. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it was really tough going and dragged unbearably in parts. it really felt overstuffed, but I'm glad I read it. It did however completely kill my ambition to read 50 books in 2010. I only managed 40. I'll have to try again this year. I'm now reading Starter for Ten: A Novel by David Nichols which I got in a Goodreads giveaway.

message 23750: by Diane (new)

Diane (readergirl235) I just finished What a Difference a Dog Makes by Dana Jennings. I thought it was great! Very funny and genuine.
