I read "THE HOURS"BY MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM .I love this book, unfortunately it finished and left me rather lonely for more
currently reading High Anxiety by charlotte Hughes--Kate Holly series. really quite cute. After nursing her hunky firefighter ex-husband Jay Rush back to health, Kate Holly is ready for a little fun, only to get stuck with an anger management group that turns dangerous when a gun-toting granny loses her temper. Kate’s hopes for some frisky business are further put on hold when a monster forest fire erupts several hours south of Atlanta, drawing firefighters by the droves, including Jay.
Kate’s professional life isn’t faring any better. Her patients seem to be getting kookier, her junk-dealing mother and aunt more outrageous, and her secretary is convinced her peculiar rash is something akin to leprosy! Kate is forced to hire oddball temp employee Abigail Davis who becomes fixated with her. If Kate thinks it strange when Abigail’s “makeover” leaves them looking frighteningly identical, she soon has to wonder just how far the troubled young woman will go to in order to win Kate’s affection. Does The Likeness answer the $50 million dollar question that ITW left unanswered?
I am still still still reading Dracula by Bram Stoker. Just about finished though and have really enjoyed it----it just wasn't one of those un-put-downable books for me though, but I recommend it.
Catie wrote: " Claire wrote: "Does The Likeness answer the $50 million dollar question that ITW left unanswered?"Haha, no it doesn't. I did feel a lot of closure about the relationship between Cassie and Rob ..."
Yes, I did too. I intend to read The Likeness - I really like the way she writes.

Maria, you have to read HIGH FIDELITY and ABOUT A BOY!!!

I finally gave up on AURORARAMA - after three weeks of loving it and hating it, and with only 22 pages left to go. I just didnt have it in me anymore.
I am already 70+ pages into Jeremy Shipp's Cursed and its like a breath of fresh air!! I love it so far!

i started Blackbird House by Alice Hoffman today. i've never read any of her other books, so i'm interested in seeing how this goes. this is the book for my library book group, otherwise i'm not sure i would have picked this up on my own.
Meghan wrote: "but the story itself is well-written that it makes up for it."
Agreed. She has a way of making the unbelievable, believable, normally I would find something like that distracting but I'm becoming more and more interested in finding out what happens next.
I had read In the Woods prior to The Likeness, and you're right, it definitely adds to it if you read it first, though it doesn't subtract much if you haven't from what I've read so far. Will be picking up
after this one :)
I just finished The Gunslinger and Sh*t My Dad Says. Now I'm reading Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster.
Just finished Hal Spacejock a fun break from my usual fair of mystery, sci-fi, adventure and horror novels. Now I am starting The Name of the Wind. I don't even know what the story is about and at 662 pages it's a little intimidating but my wife just loved it and strongly recommended my reading it and since I really respect her opinion, here goes. :)
Bob wrote: "I have read all of Jose Saramago's novels. I have enjoyed everyone of his novels. It does take getting used to his very unique writing style, especially his very very long paragraphs."I second Lori, which one would you recommend?
I've read Blindness (before the movie came out) and was blown away by the writing skill that took. A different book club considered reading another by him (I don't remember the title). Would love to read another by him.
Lori wrote: "Since I had fallen in love with the Book Of Lost Things, I thought I would stay the course of twisted takes on old stories and read The Fourth Bear by Jasper Fforde. hmmm.... only a few chapters in..."I prefer the Thursday Next series to his Nursery Rhyme Crimes. I felt it wasn't as "smart" as the TN ones.
Have you checked out his website? It's got loads of goodies that may help you with the story.

It looks like the whole "tone" is different.
Shay, Seeing is a sort-of sequel to Blindness. It picks up in the same town with some controversy surrounding the dr.s wife... and deals with the government again on a shameful level.
It is different, but totally worth a read.

I started Seeing but never finished it. Maybe one day I will jump back in since I loved Blindess so much!
I am now reading my lovely win, The Wishing Trees. So far I am about only 10 pages in, but is already so emotional!
I am reading "The Art of Racing in the Rain." It's been on my bookshelf for over a year and I finally got around to reading it. It is so, so good. I am a dog owner so it is especially moving for me. I find myself tearing up every few pages. I can't wait to finish it over the weekend!
I finished Room last night. It was pretty good, but it didn't knock my socks off. I started Great House by Nicole Krauss and so far it's a little slooooow. I really hope it picks up soon. I'm also half way through David Copperfield and enjoying every bit of it. I'll drag this one out as long as possible; I love Dickens!
I am still slogging through The Postmistress, I can't believe how boring and ho-hum this book is. I know I should be feeling something based on the subject matter, but for whatever reason the book is leaving me cold. After Sarah's Key and now this, I seem to be reading one dull book after the other. I'm planning on picking up The Children's Book next for the group read, so hopefully I will fare better with that one.
The Children's Book spoiler discussion is getting interesting hurry up Monef. I will be interested in seeing your take on the book.

I also LOVE this series tons :o) I read In the Woods quite awhile ago. I read Faithful Place just a few weeks ago and REALLY loved it! I still have to read The Likeness. I believe that I have read the first book, third book and still have the second book to read LOL :o) I may need to read the Woods again since it has been awhile.
Did I mention that I am currently actively reading 4 books LOL! The Children's Book, Graceling, Revolution and The Angel of Darkness! Not a dull moment to be had :o)
Finished An Experiment In Treason this afternoon. Still wandering around looking for what to read next.
Finished Cursed today. Such a great quick read. My review can read here - http://thenextbestbookblog.blogspot.c...
Now, getting ready to start Pee On Water
Now, getting ready to start Pee On Water
I am currently reading Poison by Chris Wooding for school. Its so good! I'm also reading The Book Thief which is an amazing book.
Emilly wrote: "I wonder if you like "love in the time of cholera"as much as i did?"I found it interesting, but I only gave it 3 stars. The writing was done really well. The descriptions were great, but the characters irritated the...crap out of me.
I've decided to bounce between romance/light reads and my larger/more in-depth reads. So right now I'm reading: Our Red Hot Romance Is Leaving Me Blue then it'll be onto The Postmistress.
I finished The Pilot's Wife and have started The Heretic's Daughter. These are both my take with me books and I'm about to go outside and get The Heretic's Daughter out of the car! It's that good. I'm only about 70 pages in but I want to stay up all night long and read it!!!! I did start The Forgotten Garden but it's over 500 pages and will probably have to be returned to the library before I finish it. (I can probably find it at the booksale tomorrow.) I think I'll go put something else in the car and get Heretic's out.
i started a blue so dark by holly schindler this morning and its sooo beautiful written i love it so far!!!
Hello, everybody.I'm reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes, Vol I, and recently re-read (for the umpteenth time, I know, sad, very sad) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, because I was desperately in need of a weekend completely disowning my normal existence! Here's my review
I also just finished Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, and here are my thoughts .
Acts of the Apostles I read just after joining Goodreads, having met the author (in the virtual world). This techno-cyber-bio thriller deserves attention .
Parenting For a Peaceful World: my all-time favourite parenting book.
I remember seeing the Brother Cadfael books a few years ago, you've reminded me to look them up again, Susanna.
Lahni wrote: "Just finished The Color Purple and I need a little time to digest before I decide what to read next."I remember watching the movie a bit less than twenty years ago when I was very young and though I remember there was a lot of sadness, I also have an mage of softness. I read the book at the beginning of the year and (especially the beginning) I found so hard to read. I was wondering how I could have enjoyed the movie so much at such a young age!
Emilly wrote: "I am reading at the moment "The Alchemist"by Paulo Coelho, this book is rather boring"I liked the story on its own but not the supposed spirital thing about it.
Lori wrote: "Maria wrote: "i finished Juliet Naked by Nick Hornby this morning. i liked it, and since this is the first book of his i've read, i'll be adding his others to my TBR list to pick up...."I don't remember if I read High fidelity or another one last year. I do remember that I was planning to read a second book of him but after the fis tone I just lost all interest. I didn't like the story and the way he talks/ writes.
I don't read plays, except for that one time when I read Romeo & Juliet for history class. But I picked up Sam Shepard's
Seven Plays
because of my OCD to read through various people's bibliography and it so happens it's Shepard's turn now. He is also an actor so that's another reason because I do enjoy his acting as well, heh. After I finish the plays, I'll pick up Jeff Lindsay's
Dexter Is Delicious
. Haven't heard very encouraging reviews so I'm not expecting much but there's always hope.
