Vonney Young (ysgillen67) | 75 comments Finished "The Wet Nurse's Tale" and loved it. Will review as soon as I've had some sleep. Read a short ghost story by Rudyard Kipling on my cellphone while waiting for the FedEx plane (part of my work). Now, I am reading "Kristin Lavransdatter" by Sigrid Undset, and I find it charming so far. Love the author's descriptions of the landscape. 1,000 pages overwhelmed me, but I will devour one-page-at-a-time until I arrive at the end. I know two people who say it is their most favorite book ever. I'll let you know.

I would highly recommend the audio version. It was great to hear the voices of the characters.

message 22809: by Petra (new)

Petra I finished Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers tonight. I found it really interesting and informative. The author treated the subject with dignity and respect. She threw in some humour but never at the expense of the Dead.

Linda | 887 comments Alex wrote: "That looks cool, Linda! Is it based on a real story, or is it more an imagined story based on real events?

Dana, Maze Runner sounds like fun too. Your description reminds me of the movie Cube. :)"

Alex: I think the details are real. The individual has real experiences, but is not real.

message 22817: by Leslie T. (new)

Leslie T. (lat0403) | 69 comments I just finished The Killer Inside Me. It was really good, but I have no idea what happened at the end of the book.

Now I'm starting Casino Royale. I'm interested in seeing which actor most fits the description of James Bond.

message 22818: by Steph (last edited Oct 12, 2010 01:33PM) (new)

Steph (somethingplace) | 79 comments Still in the middle of three books. Oryx and Crake which is great and moving faster for me than the others. I think I just haven't gotten to the heart of Rebecca yet and haven't devoted enough time to it. But i'm really stuck with Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories though and just can't seem to get through it like the other book I read of hers (Alice Munro) called Too Much Happiness: Stories which is disappointing. I'm considering putting it into the "to be continued" pile because I just can't get into it right now.

message 22819: by Carol (new)

Carol David Niven star in the 1967 version of Casino Royale. He was sexy and so believable as James Bond .

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments i finished A.D. Scott's A Small Death in the Great Glen last night, and i enjoyed it. turns out it's the first of a new series, so hopefully the things i thought were lacking or odd improve as the series goes on.

i picked up a few at the library tonight, not sure what i'll start next, or when. i leave for my trip on friday, so i'm not sure if i should start a plane book before i leave or wait until i'm actually on the plane to start one of them. decisions decisions!

Did I mention that I finished The People Who Watched Her Pass By and loved it?!?! Click on that link to read my review. 4 stars - a quick engaging read.

Moved on to Termite Parade which looks and sounds gross, right? But it's actually a pretty awesome read. I am just over 1/2 way and I swear, it's like taking every bad dating experience you have ever had and jumbling them all together....

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Kitty wrote: "David Niven star in the 1967 version of Casino Royale. He was sexy and so believable as James Bond ."

My problem with Niven's Casino Royale is the fact it is a parody.
I collected Bond books when I was a teen and thought that Timothy Dalton was closest to Fleming's Bond.
I've also heard that they tried to get closer to the books with On Your Majesty's Secret Service but as it was one of the least successful Bond films they gave up on that idea.

message 22828: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 475 comments Am in the middle of reading The Last Explorer: Hubert Wilkins, Hero of the Great Age of Polar Exploration which is the story of Hubert Wilkins and how he is the first explorer of the modern age. He was the first to fully explore the poles via plane. So far, reading about his adventures in ANZAC in WWI as their official photographer.

Really great so far. Glad I picked it up.
