What are you reading?
I am currently reading Dan Simmons's Drood; I needed a book to read the other week while waiting for someone so I went to the bookstore and picked it up since it was on my want-to-read list. It's been interesting so far =)
Halfway through The Wet Nurse's Taleand love it. Author will be at our book club Oct 29 in Raleigh. Looking for laughs so I started The Financial Lives of the Poets. At least the first chapter is a scream and so appropo for these hard times. When I finish my homework, TWNT, I will have some difficulty in deciding what to read next.
I am almost finished reading Love Unscripted by Tina Reber.
This book is freaking awesome! Finally, a story where the protagonist isn't a helpless twit that needs to be rescued from her own stupidity. I cried my eyes out at one point. The writing is so authentic, you feel like you are actually there with the characters. I even read some of it out loud to my boyfriend, who started reading over my shoulder. Hope to finish it tonight!!
I finally finished The Count of Monte Cristo and felt as though I had run a marathon! It was an amazing read and I am so glad to have joined TNBBC or I might never have tackled it. After that I read both Gregor the Overlander and Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane because Mr Monef bought me the box set for my birthday. I am currently reading Eva Luna after which I will read one more Gregor book before tackling Sarah's Key for the group read.
Interested to hear how Drood ends up for you, Li. My wife was all excited about the description, but the book ended up leaving her cold.
I just finished I, Robot and really liked all but the last story. Now I'm going to try Let the Right One In again.
Currently I am reading
and loving it. I finished Ms Brooks
which prompted me to try this book. I highly recommend both of these books.
I've just finished The Angel's Game. The first and second part were wonderful even better than The Shadow of the Wind but the third part was a little ordinary and the ending was weak. Still a great book, though. Now I am reading The Girl Who Played With Fire. So far so good.
I was counting on Jane Austen to rescue me from my string of sub-par reads and she did not disappoint. I just finished Persuasion and gave it 5 stars. Now I'm starting The Bad Seed by William March. It's the first of many creepy books that I hope to read during the month of October.
I just started The Mermaids Singing by Val McDermid today. It's the first in the Tony Hills series and I'm very excited to read it.

Jeane wrote: "I am half way through Inkdeathfeeling so good reading it but sad thinking it is the last one."First I thought of the Inkheart series as a book for children only and didn't really feel like starting... but after I convinced myself to start reading this series, I couldn't stop! Cornelia Funke's characters are so lovely, they are not only friends for children, but adults aswell:)Tell me how you liked Inkdeath?
I just finished the epic Under the Dome. Now I am reading Horns. Keeping it in the family, I guess.
Horns is the first ebook I've borrowed from the Carnegie Library here in Pittsburgh. I bought the hardback awhile back but it is just to easy to read it on the Nook.
I'm reading Dracula by Bram Stoker for my creepy Halloween read! Not too far in, but liking it already.
oh lovveee The Mists Of Avalon. Just started, An Assembly Such As This, my FIRST ever fan-fiction. ok so far.
I remember as I read The Mists of Avalon I was always infuriated with the women (so stubborn!), however it was such a well constructed book that I did come away thinking it was quite good.

Sarah. I didn't know the books but my boyfriend had me watch the movie with him because he thought it sounded like something I might like. What he meant was, it is about books so you will like it. :-) I was completely in love with the movie nd the first chance I had to go to the bookshop I searched for it. We found it, guess where? In the children section! :-) I for sure don't think it is only a kids book. Actually, finding it pretty adult like. Have you read all of them? I am half way Inkdeath and torn between going on which I really want to do and stop ebcause I don't want to finsih and I am afraid of what will happen!!!! This is a very weird feeling because even with my favourite books I don't have this. Even if I am getting very excited, I keep realizing that it is fiction and most of the time it will be all ok. But this one is driving me crazy! :-)
Madeline wrote: "I remember as I read The Mists of Avalon I was always infuriated with the women (so stubborn!), however it was such a well constructed book that I did come away thinking it was quite good."Madeline, I heard that comment a lot but couldn't really share it. But for now I haven't heard anyone sharing this feeling of me:-)
Jeane wrote: "Madeline wrote: "I remember as I read The Mists of Avalon I was always infuriated with the women (so stubborn!), however it was such a well constructed book that I did come away thinking it was qui..."I didn't see the women as stubborn. I believe they bore a great responsibility, and were fully aware of the need to temper the selfishness of the unenlightened. Like the Bene Gesserit for whom they serve as a template, they are resolute in their mission to see humanity reach its highest potential. But of course, they have their own inner demons to vanquish.

Totally bogged down in To the End of the Land. It's beautifully written, but definitely not a page-turner. It's requiring a lot more concentration than I have right now, particularly as I keep looking longingly at all the other books I've downloaded over the past four weeks!
Started Coriolanus today. Man, that is one long first act. (Though not as long as one of the acts in Antony and Cleopatra, which lasted approximately forever!)
Donna wrote: "Jeane wrote: "Rosalie wrote: "Currently I am reading

Antoine wrote: "Jeane wrote: "Madeline wrote: "I remember as I read The Mists of Avalon I was always infuriated with the women (so stubborn!), however it was such a well constructed book that I did come away think..."Jeane and Antoine, I was reconciled to them by the end. Somehow I felt they'd done the best their prejudices would allow. Its just that I often felt their own actions were the cause of all the turmoil they were forced to endure. Which is when my frustration flared highest. It however was a book that I thought about for a while after I'd finished and would definitely recommend to others.
After Fahrenheit 451, I started the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I thought the Gunslinger was fairly good, although it's mainly a "set-up" for the rest of the series, and am now reading The Drawing of the Three.
I just finished Jessica Francis Kane's The Report - and gave it 4 stars. This is a book that makes you appreciate the life you are living - check out the full review on TNBBC's blog: The Report
Now getting ready to start Rayner's Marvellous Hairy

I didn't particularly like it,but many others did, so don't go by me.
Blame: A Novel was good.
I started reading Doctor Zhivago for our side discussion.

I think it had the best ending of any series I've ever read. A lot of King's works are real crap (in my opinion, of course!) but The Dark Tower Series -- genius.
hey guys i'm new to this group, i am currently reading along for the ride by sarah desson, and after i am finished that i believe my next book will be evermore by alyson noel!!
I'm hoping to finish up The Dracula Dossier: A Novel of Suspense today. Its gotten very good and very creepy. Its a good Halloween read.
I'm halfway through
Fahrenheit 451
(my second Bradbury) and halfway through listening to
The Wordy Shipmates
(my first Vowell). Both are interesting in their own right but I'm not sure how I feel about either just yet. Though I think I'd be happy to listen to more Vowell.
Ah, the Vowell book. I'll be interested to hear how it comes out for you. Definitely on my TBR list. Saw an interview with her and now sortof nursing a crush on her. That's a good reason to buy her book, right?
I just finished The Dracula Dossier: A Novel of Suspense which I really liked after I got past the first 50 pages. I'm currently continuing on with The Woman in White
