Kaion (kaionvin) Just finished The Sea of Monsters, it still made me laugh a lot, but not as much as The Lightning Thief. I knew there would be more set up, but Tyson was a poor Grover replacement in the dynamic. Amped for the next book though.

I just ordered/received the Kindle sample of that book - seems a lot of people are reading it this summer! Let me know what you think. It's been described as many genres all rolled up into one - true?

Between this book, The Street of a Thousand Blossoms, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, & The Arabian Nights:The Thousand and One Nights - I think I have this number well loved!

Carol, it's a very humorous tongue-in-cheek rant about the ridiculous things men do and say, and why we react to them the way we do.

I wouldn't say it's the Golden Grail, but most definitely worth a read.

Stay tuned, because at some point today, I will be hosting a giveaway for 5 copies of this!!!!

Alex thanks for tracking this book down for Olympia and sharing it with the rest of us. I have a brother who is in that mode of trying to prove he's "authentically black" doing to us being pale skinned but both parents Black Americans. I am going to purchase three of them (for myself, the brother with the misconception and my other brother who is a free floater like myself). He isn't a reader at all but maybe when he snaps out of his stupor he will reach for this book and find inspiration and confidence.
Thank you thank you thank you. I never knew a book like this existed and it hits on a reality that no one wants to accept from the people wrapped up in it and the parents who are turning a blind eye.

I'm currently trading off between Infinite Jest, The Meaning of Night: A Confession, and Pill Head: The Secret Life of a Painkiller Addict, plus I've read some fluffy stuff in various animal hospital waiting rooms, Sworn to Silence and Neighborhood Watch.

I sure hope everything is okay with your cat. I had one in the hospital a few years ago and was told it was time to say goodbye. So I took him home and did his IV's every night, nursing him back myself. He's still with us today (just turned 13) and looks and acts just like our 2 year old kitty. Hope yours has a long, happy life ahead too!!!

That is a really cool story. :) I just recently had two dogs pass away within 6 months of each other (nothing we could have done) but it's inspiring to see people who don't give up in "goodbye" situations like that.

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 107 comments I've managed to get 'The life in the woods with Joni-Pip' back off my wife, and so far I've got to say I am enjoying it, which says a lot for the way Carrie King tells the story. This is surprising me as I normally can't stand anything which comes near to the fantasy genre, I've even been known to put down, and forget Terry Pratchett books in the past!

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 107 comments Hi Lori,
It used to say Paul but 'the GR team' changed it to Timothy because I write my thrillers under the name Timothy Pilgrim and someone got confused over a conversation about my current book 'The Day the Ravens Died' on GR. Just to totally confound things my new book, 'Beyond the Potting Shed' has just been released under my own name! I have asked they put it back to how it was, but hey! Book launch at the Frome festival on sunday!!
As for my copy of Joni-Pip, Carrie came all the way to Winchester writers conferance a couple of weeks ago just to meet little old me, and bring me a copy which she signed. I am so flattered, I will always treasure that book, and I rarely even look at fantasy genre books, nevermind read one properly.
Just to get you really jealous, Terry Pratchett came over for a chat as well, no disrespect to the great man but meeting Carrie was the highlight, then I always was a sucker for a pretty face.!
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer:]
