Ooh - there's also a new compilation of short stories, [book:Dracula's Guest: and other Victori..."
I can vouch for that anthology. I won it as a First Reads book and while there were a couple of stories that I felt weren't really that great, most of it was amazing.

:)

Girl in Translation is on my to-read list and Kitchen Chinese: A Novel About Food, Family, and Finding Yourself this looks like another good one.
I get so many great suggestions in these groups :).

do you remember his poemso much depends

Uh....that poem was written by William Carlos Williams...not Ernest Hemingway.

I hope you enjoy Palahniuk! :)"
So far so good!! :) Diary is the first one I have read by him..... what others do you suggest?

Have you read the classic Dracula-by Bram Stoker. That is the original vampire tale."
Whats it about? Like as in da story line lol :)

I would recommend Survivor and Invisible Monsters . I can't be objective about Fight Club because I saw the movie first and by the time I read the book, I'd already been influenced by the movie so much that I had no choice but to love it. I liked Choke as well. I read Lullaby and Diary but thought they were only okay.
I haven't read anything since Diary but I have all of his work on my TBR list and some I already own so it's only a matter of time before I give in and read everything :)

:)"
Oh I wanted that one too! dang. Still plan to try and get ahold of it.

Susanna, Wow. You are like my Palahuink twin!! I felt the same way about each book (except Fight Club - saw the movie/ never read the book)!!

I finally finished Agaat. Took me 13 days to read it..Phew!
Now I am moving on to The Case of the Missing Servant: a Vish Puri mystery to prepare myself for the author discussion with Tarquin that starts here next Monday....
Whose going to join in?

These are both more modern day stories - Girl in Translation is heartbreaking, yet inspiring and I tend to think it mirrors the authors life a bit. Kitchen...is more of a NY to Beijing Bridgit Jones/Nanny Diaries style in writing, not content.

That's been on my TBR list since before it was published (so, why haven't I read it yet??). I hear it allows us to meet a completely different person than we saw as a media image on the court.

Yes! It's pretty good so far."
I read he has been working on a screenplay version of the book for film. Have you seen any of his (and Stephen Fry's) Jeeves & Wooster stuff?? Hilarious!!

Ohh Mary, I hope you will join us when the author pops in this coming week!!

Yeah! The book came out over a year ago, so that's probably why the line is so short.

I had never heard of it until now. I learn about so many books/authors here.

I finished The Passage by Cronin. The characteization was marvelous. I got a little bogged down at the end,but I think that was me not the book. If for some reason it does get chosen as the monthly book, it will be a delight to re-read as I just inhaled this time around.

Hate to break it to you Alex, but you wouldn't find it. My sister came over yesterday and took possession of it while I wasn't looking. I chased her down screaming "It's nothing like Twilight, you won't like it!", but she decided to try anyway...

Today I plan on starting The Kingmaking. It's a historical-fiction book (my favorites) on what the real life King Arthur could or would have been like. This is the first book of a three book series. I'm really looking forward to starting this one tonight.

doh! Will change it, thanks!

Cheers Paula! I appreciate your update & recommendation - will read it soon!

Never read a Laurell Hamilton Merry Gentry book!! ;-))

I really enjoyed reading Chuck Palahniuk, so looks like I am going to have to read some others by him!! :)

Wow indeed! Have you read anything after Diary? I have Haunted, Rant and Snuff but haven't read them yet.
