message 18701: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jayme-reads) Finished 20th Century Ghosts last night and started into Under the Dome. This should keep me busy for awhile.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Finished The Children of Henry VIII last night. Very good.

I'm only on the second story Jayme but I'm liking it so far!

message 18709: by Calli (new)

Calli Rose | 2 comments I'm reading Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis. I enjoy reading this book because I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers and reading this gives a better explanation of the lyrics through Kiedis's life story.

message 18710: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I've started to read Louis de Bernieres's Captain Corelli's Mandolin. I'm only a page in but I'm looking forward to reading it (despite of all the work I have to do, lol) =D

message 18711: by Julia (new)

Julia Bella | 9 comments I am about finished with The Wood by Tana French. I am liking it pretty well. The psychological tension felt by the main character could have seemed contrived, but it was just subtle enough. I'd recommend it to mystery novel people like myself.

Still trying to decide what to read next. Have been telling myself that I will try to tackle The Road for the third time. I've never made it more than 50 pages. It's hard to read a novel that brings you a feeling of hopelessness even if the prose is sometimes beautiful. I'll probably get to page 52 and go back to something lighter.

message 18712: by Allison (new)

Allison I'm reading The Undertaking: Life Studies from the Dismal Trade. It's not quite what I had expected, but interesting none the less.

After that, I'm going to start Her Fearful Symmetry, and am really excited about it.

message 18713: by Ana (new)

Ana | 65 comments I started "An offer you can't refuse", by Jill Mansell

So far so good.

Linda | 887 comments Just started reading The Bay At Midnight by Diane Chamberlain. Can't really tell how far I am into it since this is my first time reading on a Kindle, buuuuuuuuut I am loving this story so far.

Gorana | 98 comments Carol (akittykat) wrote: "Gorana wrote: "Yesterday I finished Shutter Island and started Half of a Yellow Sun."

Such a wide spectrum. How did you like Half of a Yellow Sun?"

I only read about 50 pages so far, so I'm still getting into the story which I think will be very good :)

message 18718: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments I'm reading Breaking the Silence. It's a good story but far-fetched--

:::POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD:::

How is introducing a traumatized 5 year old with men-issues to a strange man who is actually her biological father, with the expectation that he will somehow become a positive male figure in her life, a good idea? I'm at the part where Emma meets Dylan for the first time and I have a sinking feeling that she's going to adore him on sight which just strains credulity to the breaking point. I hope I'm wrong. In any case I'm still intrigued by the mystery of Sarah Tolley so I'll keep reading.

message 18719: by Claire (new)

Claire (clairebear8) | 514 comments Just finished The 19th Wife and thought it was pretty good. I was just really ready to be finished with the book though and sort of skimmed a few chapters on the history of the Morman church, toward the end of the book (skimming it didn't take away from the story though, in my opinion). I'm starting In the Woods by Tana French now and am looking forward to reading this....I've heard its good.

message 18720: by Chantelle (new)

Chantelle (chantelle13) | 90 comments Claire - it is pretty good, and I agree with you - I was ready for it to be over. :)

message 18724: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Reading Civilization: A New History of the Western World on Jason's recommendation. Jason, I'm posting thoughts as I go, if you're interested enough to scroll past me calling Jayme a Nazi for liking ketchup.

message 18725: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 475 comments Am about halfway through Olive Kitteridge and really liking it so far. Just finished A Tree Grows in Brooklyn on audio and The Lightning Thief and Shades of Grey: The Road to High Saffron for some fun.

Loved a Tree/Brooklyn, but definitely think it lost something in the audio version.

Lightning Thief was just meh, a watered down version of HP

Shades of Grey was slightly disappointing for me after loving the other two series. I'm not sure I am digging the whole premise or how eager I am for the next two in the series.

message 18726: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) I am taking a break from HEAVY reading and I am reading the fun book...Day by Day written by Delia Parr. I am enjoying it when I have time for a chapter between packing boxes for the family move.

Just finished reviewing Don't Smell The Floss by Matty Byloos, which is a collection of short stories. Some of them were awesomely twisted, and some were wickedly strange.....

I am about to start Banned for Life.

Awesome book!

message 18732: by D.E. (new)

D.E. Knobbe (deknobbe) | 1 comments I like Y.A. mostly because I write it and I have two teenagers. It's kind of fun that I can swap books with both my 15 year-old daughter and my 13 year old son. I just picked up 5 books at my son's school book fair and can't wait to bite into them. First on my list is Peeled by Joan Bauer, then on to waiting for Normal. Anyone else like to read Y.A.

Kehinde Adeniyi (kadeniyi21) | 12 comments just joined this group and the site as well. i am reading an old-fashioned girl by Louisa May Alcott and Anna Karenina. really into the first because it feels more recent in reference to the language as opposed to Karenina. i hope i cxan finish both by the end of the week/Monday so i can move on to another book. if anyone has any recommendations for me feel free to respond. its nice to be here- Kehinde

message 18734: by Paul (new)

Paul Allchorne (gossipingaboutbooks) | 1 comments I am currently reading A Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz. I came across the book, in my local library, by accident and I am so glad I did. This is a brilliant book.

Hi Kehinde. Welcome to the group. We have a recommendation folder specifically for people who are interested in hearing what the group thinks you should read (if you set the stage as far as genre or setting)....

message 18737: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Hi Kehinde! Lori, I hope it's okay if I say this: The Classics Book Club is planning to read Anna Karenina in April, so if you'd like to talk about it, stop by. My wife and I are looking forward to starting it.

message 18738: by Joel (new)

Joel (joelevard) Kehinde, there's a newer translation of AK (from 2000; Oprah chose it for her book club) that is supposed to read more easily. Do you know which translation you are reading?

I just bought a copy of the new one and plan to read it in the near future. Maybe I should do it in April for the Classics Book Club.

message 18739: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Yeah, I bought the new one too. I couldn't find anyone who didn't like it. It's by Pevear and Volokhonsky.

message 18740: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Lour I am still trying to get through Bleak House and Watchmen but also started Foundation. I like to have at least one easier read on my list when I'm struggling with the tough ones. I thought Watchmen would be it but maybe I'm just not a graphic novel person.

message 18741: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 33 comments I'm tackling the beginning of a long saga with Outlander by Diana Gabaldon I'm about 300 pages in and its really won me over. Hope it can continue like this.

message 18742: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Michelle, as graphic novels go, Watchmen is one of the densest. You're not the first to think "How hard can a comic book be?" The answer to that question is Watchmen.

Michelle Lour Alex wrote: "Michelle, as graphic novels go, Watchmen is one of the densest. You're not the first to think "How hard can a comic book be?" The answer to that question is Watchmen."

That is exactly right. I now feel really stupid in grouping the Archie comics I read when I was 10 in any way with this type of book. Here's to broadening my horizons and finding myself totally unprepared. :)

message 18744: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 475 comments Currently reading: Unwind which at about 60 pages in is really fun so far. Also listening to Brideshead Revisited.

message 18745: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 33 comments Those both look interesting Bridgit haven't heard much about them but gonna have to put them on my TBR list!

message 18746: by Liz (new)
