What are you reading?
Thanks Beth :)Lori wrote: "Ana, you are stronger than I! I tryed to read that dang novel twice and couldnt get more than 40-some odd pages in .... I still own it, so maybe, just maybe, someday..." WE CAN DO IT!
LOL CAROL
Bhumi - Oh I will I'll come back and complain or encourage you all to read or re-read it
Thanks Liz I'm going to give it my full attention today. I'm sure it won't be my favorite book but I have to give it a chance.
Linda wrote: "Just finished Look Again by Lisa Scottoline. WOW! Two days, just two days and I had to keep reading. I gave it a 5 and believe me I don't do that lightly."Linda, I love her books. I've read most of them. Some of her books are part of a series about a group of female lawyers.
Just finished reading Make Room! Make Room! by Harry Harrison for a scifi module at uni. Thought it was a fantastic imagining of the future, and to me felt so close in some ways to the present day.Unfortunately, due to uni commitments, I find I can't let myself get too engrossed in books for pleasure, else I wouldn't get any work done whatsoever! As such, I'm currently reading a book of short stories, The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri.
Alex, I felt the same about Saramago's Seeing. I rushed right out to get it the day it was published, but as of now, almost 4 years later, I have yet to finish it. Maybe someday.I'm about at the halfway mark in Doctor Zhivago and I just started reading Fanny Hill, or Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure.
Hmmm, well, I found it hard to get into at first (compared to other Russian works), but I'm having a much easier time now. As much as I loathe to say it, I might actually prefer the movie (w/ Omar Sharif) to the book. The book isn't bad at all, but the movie is better.
Sometimes books work better if you see the movie first. You can visualize the scenes as you are reading.
I just started Ford County. I am looking forward to something I can read in little spurts for a bit. This fits the bill.
Just finished The Library Diaries and hated it and now I am reading I am reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower
I am reading Shutter Island. I am really enjoying it. I need to finish it before the weekend so we can go see it at the movies.I have not read this thread in a while and some people were talking about Jodi Picoult book's last week. I have read Nineteen Minutes, The Pact: A Love Story and My Sister's Keeper. I needed to take a break from those heavy topics and I read Talk of the Town. It was a kindle freebie about a month ago and it was a pleasant change. I have several other Picoult books already downloaded and ready to read.
Rachel wrote: "At any given time, I am reading three books: 1 fiction, 1 non-fiction, and a re-read. Right now, I am into the second book of Pamela Aidan's Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy, which retells Prid..."I wouldn't mind rereading the historian myself. I liked the book a lot!
I finished "Inkspell" (loved it, a great sequel) and started today "Gods behaving badly", by Marie Phillips.
I think I will read next Revolution 1989 The Fall of the Soviet Empire. Won't be for a while as I still have two thirds of Civilization to read.Though knowing me I might just as likely read something else first !!!
Pop Goes the Weasel (Alex Cross, Book 5) by James Patterson Pop Goes the Weasel (Alex Cross, Book 5)
Jason, Revolution 1989 looks cool You'll have to let me know how it goes. What's this Civilization book?
Recently finished Saving Ceecee Honeycutt: A Novel, Sarah's Key, and The Good Mayor: A Novel. Gave them each four stars. Now reading and enjoying Remarkable Creatures.
I just finished "Postcards From a Dead Girl" and liked it alot.
Now starting "Shutter Island" !!!!!
Now starting "Shutter Island" !!!!!
I'm trying to figure out what to read next. None of my current reads are speaking to me...lol. Maybe 19th Wife but I left it in the car. I finished
yesterday and loved it. I have two separate orders from Amazon coming in the next few days...hm. What to read, what to read.
My eight year old daughter, after finishing the entire Percy Jackson series, is reading The Adventures Of Ulysses. I don't think I could even get through that. LOL.
Lori, I know it. LOL! She's funny. She desperately wanted to read Les Misérables after seeing the musical. I was so thankful to find a kids' version for her.
Shary wrote: "Linda wrote: "Just finished Look Again by Lisa Scottoline. WOW! Two days, just two days and I had to keep reading. I gave it a 5 and believe me I don't do that lightly."Linda, I love her books..."
Shary: Can't believe I have gone this long and not read something by her before. Well that error has ended. Thanks for the information.
I'm reading The Hunger Games and can't put it down. I started reading on my lunch break which was a mistake because then the second half of the day I get nothing done. I'll definitely finish it today.
Ashley, it's so good!I just ordered the sequel from amazon, should be here today or tomorrow - I'm so excited!
I'm reading several but also started Watchmen. It's the only graphic novel on the 1001 books list and I've never really read comics or graphic novels so its definitely a big change for me. I'm about 30 pages in and I'm enjoying it but I don't see me switching from novels to graphic novels anytime soon. I was really surprised to see it on the list though.

On edit, th..."
T.C. I really did enjoy every minute reading this book.
That's good to know Brenda - still not available in the Kindle Store, but it's on my list!
Brenda wrote: "Pauline, Did you enjoy The 19th Wife? I am thinking about reading this one in May '10."Hi Brenda - I noticed you were asking about The 19th Wife. I'm reading it and loving it. Its very good. It switches between modern day and the early days of the Morman church.
Well, I've got several books going, but they're all rather "heavy," and I'm sick. So I'll likely be picking something else up. Maybe some historical fiction.
carol (akittykat) wrote: "Susanna Hope you are not seriously ill. Feel better soon."I hope I'm not, too!
Thanks.
Finished up a few novellas and short stories this past week, and have moved on to Dante's Inferno and Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist.
Got as far as the Medieval age in civilization and its fascinating reading. One of the best History books that I have read since Mediterranean by Braduel think thats how you spell it, probably wrong,
Dude, I just looked up Civilization: A New History of the Western World and it looks awesome. I love this kind of thing. I'm totally psyched to read that. The very positive NY Times review says it doesn't feel like the dreaded List of Names and Dates; do you agree? That's my one fear.
Does it mention important literature from the periods it covers? That'd be cool.
I am reading Shutter Island and trying to get it finished so I can start Jodi Picoult's new novel, House Rules. Went to her book signing in Schaumburg, IL last night...LOVE HER!
There are no list of names it tries to cover each period in as much depth as it can. It will pick out men from each period and cover them in depth and give a review of the general period. It mentions some of the great writers from each period, obviously you get more writers the nearer to the present day you get to.
Ohhh, Laree, I just finished Winter Garden. I really enjoyed it. I was supposed to go to Kristin Hannah's book signing on Feb 9th but for onces we got all the snow and weather they predicted and I couldn't make the 3 hour drive.
Reading Henning Mankell's short stories featuring his Kurt Wallander character. The title is "The Pyramid" and it's outstanding.
Dara wrote: "I am reading Shutter Island and trying to get it finished so I can start Jodi Picoult's new novel, House Rules. Went to her book signing in Schaumburg, IL last night...LOVE HER!"Just requested House Rules from the library. I figure I should have it in 3 months or so!
Luna wrote: "I am about ready to start Beastly by Alex Flinn. Anyone read it? If so what did you think?"Luna I loved Beastly! I thought it was so great and ended up reading it in one sitting. I heard they're making a movie out of it with Vanessa Hudgens and one of the Olsen Twins. I'm skipping that...
