I haven't seen the movie yet. I heard it was good, but very different from the book. What did you think?
Jessica wrote: "I am reading The Alchemyst by Michael Scott." I totally loved the Alchemyst! My son and I both read it and the sequels and are patiently waiting for
The Necromancer in May. I hope you enjoy The Alchemyst.
I really enjoyed this series also. Glad to hear others enjoyed it.
I'm reading The Reading Group: A Novel. And ugh is all I can say. I am not liking it very much. I was hoping it was going to be a super fast read and instead it just seems to be dragging and dragging. Ugh.
I'm still working on Villette. It's slow going, but interesting. I'm starting The Picture of Dorian Gray for the group read. I'm really looking forward to this one.
I've started reading Ken Follett's The Man From St. Petersburg. It's has an interesting cast of characters; I wonder how it's all going to play out...
Still making my way through Inferno but also picked up Magician just to balance things out. Melissa let us know how you go with Villette, it was part of my reading for a class but we only got a week to read it and I didn't finish it in time. I'd be interested to know whether it's work picking up again.
I'm reading a couple. Cherishing Our Daughters: How Parents Can Raise Girls to Become Confident Women, The Girl in the Red Coat, The 19th Wife, and In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer

I recently finished that. It was a good one!

It's not a happy book, but a good one anyway.
Remember we as readers promised not to be sad. I thought that was lovely. And scars are just stars to show that you are alive.
I just got done with the Symbol and found it to be a duplicate of Davinci Code with different characters. I am going to start reading Stones Into Schools by Greg Mortenson.
Along with some other things I'm currently (finally??) reading A Passage to India. I've been saying I've wanted to read this one for years, and holy crap I'm finally doing it. 100 pages in. Go me!
I'm reading The Secret Life Of CeeCee Wilkes and i love it! I'm almost half way through and I can't wait to see what's gonna happen next.

I have that one on my "read in 2010" list! Go you! Then tell me what you think please. :)

I actually LOVED what she said about scars. I'll always remember that.

There are lots of memorable passages in this book. It is summing up to be a top read so far for the year.

Even though the movie was a bit different than the book, I really enjoyed it and thought that Chris Columbus did a good job. I hope they plan to make Sea of Monsters into a movie.

Ann from S.C. wrote: "I finished THE LACUNA by Barbara Kingsoliver and gave it 2 stars. It was a very hard book to get into. Now am going to try again THE GIRL WITH TEH DRAGON TATTOO. Could no really get into it before."Try, try again. It's worth getting through the 1st one if for nothing else but to read the other two which are SO GOOD! Promise :)
Wow... 99 posts in only two days? So many interesting books being read by everyone.
As for me and my two cents - I just finished "Beat the Reaper" today and was kinda underwhelmed by it. Dont get me wrong, it was a great little book, just didnt seem to live up to the hype that was surrounding it. If anyone is interested, my review is here: http://thenextbestbookblog.blogspot.c...
I am now starting Kelly Lydicks experimental fiction novel called Mastering the Dream

I am reading Koontz The Darkest Evening of the Year. I have about 120 pages left...right at the point where the book turns for the "climax" but I'm not sure if I want to continue...I'm concerned about where I think the story line is going.Any suggestions? Anyone read this one?

Did you read it yet?
I'm having a hard time getting into anything after Shutter Island. That was so psychologically intriguing (that's the only way I can describe it!), that it makes everything else seem so DULL. I picked up Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis- hopefully that can pull me in.
Finished Picture of Dorian Gray today. It was pretty rockin'. Tomorrow I'll start The Darien Gap: Travels in the Rainforest of Panama.
Started Look Again by Lisa Scottoline yesterday. This is the first time I have read anything by her and if this is an example of others, it won't be my last. I have not been able to put it down.
I just ordered Stones Into Schools and can't wait reading it. I loved three cops of tea, the first 5 chapters of that got me hooked real good. This is while I am waiting for my own book "A Time to Betray" is coming out in about a month.Lots of anxiety!
Brenda wrote: "I just finished reading the new book by Nancy Pickard, "The Scent of Rain and Lightning." It was a very good read."
Love that title! I'm gonna take a look - thanks.
On edit, that looks good! I'm downloading a sample. :)

No I haven't read it. But it is on the list to read.
Jo - How do you like Infected? A friend of mine just told me about that author, and I want to read that book soon. I am currently reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and although I am enjoying it, the jury is still out (of course I have just started).
I'm reading Set This House in Order: A Romance of Souls, a story featuring 2 people with mulitiple personalities. I'm really enjoying it. During my commute, I'm listening to Catching Fire. Although I'm interested in seeing how the series will end, this isn't my favorite by a long shot. It's rather drawn out, I find.
I've heard other people say that about the Hunger Games books, but I think they're action packed! I loved Catching Fire almost as much as the first book.
Just finished Look Again by Lisa Scottoline. WOW! Two days, just two days and I had to keep reading. I gave it a 5 and believe me I don't do that lightly.
I'm reading Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison. It's paranormal suspense - a well-written, fun, fast-paced read. I was sucked in from the first paragraph. I downloaded it free on Sony's site. It's still being offered as a free download if anyone wants to check it out: http://ebookstore.sony.com. Click on the Bargain Books link.
Jayme wrote: "I've heard other people say that about the Hunger Games books, but I think they're action packed! She's kind, faithful, strong, capable but she's also slow and dense in ways that hurt her, slow her down and make her unsympathetic to the reader, I find. If not for the people protecting her, she'd be the first one killed. I guess the author is trying to add suspense but, for me, it just drags things out.
I just started The Hunger Games and am excited to see what this series is like. I'm only one chapter in and feel sucked in already.
I just finished The Picture of Dorian Gray. Now I'm debating between The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe and Firefly Summer by Maeve Binchy. Not sure which way I'll go at this point.

LOL! I'd love to discuss this series in another thread so that we don't give out spoilers to those who haven't read it yet. There's things to say.
I just started The Hunger Games too. I'm feeling a little disloyal to the other five books on my currently reading list, but I can't help it. It's here in front of me...am I just supposed to *wait*?
