Ah, Amelia Peabody. I've read Barbara Mertz's nonfiction books about Egypt - Temples, Tombs, and Hieroglyphs: A Popular History of Ancient Egypt and Red Land, Black Land: Daily Life in Ancient Egypt. They're great. (I think she writes the Peabody books under a different name, but it's the same lady.)
I've started reading David Hewson's The Cemetery of Secrets, which has been sitting on my shelf for a while now. It's a slow start but the storyline taking place in 1733 is intriguing.
I am about 150 pages from the end of The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. I really wanted to like it, but I don't really. I agree with some of her ideas but the book is leaving me cold. I just don't understand why and how some of the characters are reacting to others. I enjoyed Atlas Shrugged much more.

Masquerade....sorry!
I'm reading "In This Mountain" Jan Karon. I was having trouble getting into it but I think that was because I'm working full time and not able to read as much as I'd like but I'm into it now and enjoying it more.
Susanna wrote: "Just started an Amelia Peabody mystery, Lion in the Valley. Set in 1895 Egypt."I love the entire Amelia Peabody series. It is written by Elizabeth Peters aka Barbara Mertz (real name) aka Barbara Michaels, which is a different pen names with a TON of romantic suspense novels that are really good too.
She is one of my favorite authors. Enjoy!
Becky wrote: "The Book of Lost Things by John Connelly (audible.com version). It's just o.k."Becky I did the audio (CD) version of this book, too. Glad I did it this way, but it wasn't what I expected. Is it a YA book, b/c if not I think it should be...

I am starting to read the Pendragon series by MJ Mchale and it is really interesting. It mixes sci- fi and fantasy in a really good way. I would definitely recommend it.
I am reading Intertwined. I don't understand the story though I am on page 300-something. I keep on reading. I think maybe I'll get it in the end. But I can't stand guessing every time I read it. Can anyone tell me what the story is talking about?
Finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society yesterday. Now I'm going to start The Picture of Dorian Gray for the group read!
I just finished Revenge of the witch and it was really creepy but I am still going to read the rest of the series unless is gets worse( more creepy). Has nayone else read it?
Jane Eyre is old fashion, but when you consider the era in which it was written ,you make allowances. It was a novelty at that time. and is very well written. Some books though just don't capture your interest. I find the older I get my reading choices are not the same as when I was young. The books I read when I was young ,and thought were fantastic, are not now.
Angelica- how are you enjoying Push? I just read it, and am surprised by the mixed reviews... I thought it was amazing.
You know the author of Jane eyre had two sisters, and all three liked to write, but only two of them got their books published? Her sister wrote wuthering heights.
All three Bronte sister's wrote poems and novels. Anne wrote The Tennant Of Wildfelll Hall and Agnes Grey
Emily wrote Wuthering Heights her only novel in completion
Charlotte was the most prolific. She wrote several novels of which Jane Eyre is the most widely read.
All three published a book of poems under the pseudonym of Currer, Acton and Ellis Bell
Oh, that is really cool! I did not know about the third sister. The information I got I read somewhere, I believe, but it most have been inaccurate.
Here is a discussion on another site about Wildfell Hallhttp://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...
If you read it follow the discussion also, but there are spoilers.
Finished "The Blue Star" today, and started "Beat The Reaper"..... Im reading like mad this week!!!
I am currently rereading Artemis Fowl and the Demon Colony because I love the series, it is really good. I plan to go to the library soon and check out the second book in the Last apprentice series. I finished the first one, revenge of the Witch last night. It is quite good but quite creepy, in my opinion.
I finally decided to put down Heart-Shaped Box because I just wasn't in the mood for it. Maybe I'll pick it up again closer to Halloween. Now I'm going to start Happy Birthday or Whatever: Track Suits, Kim Chee, and Other Family Disasters by Annie Choi
I am reading Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. This is the third Hannah Book, I have read this week and found them enjoyable.
Marti wrote: "I am reading Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. This is the third Hannah Book, I have read this week and found them enjoyable."I really loved Firefly Lane.....thought it was one of her best books.
Marti, Firefly Lane was one of my favorites! Great story and very endearing characters that take you on a great journey, especially if you grew up in the 80's and 90's.
I've been MIA this February. I read some but not as much as usual. We upgraded the software at the library on the 1rd and well, it's not really working on the 28th. You can imagine the rest. I'm beginning March with Everything Is Illuminated. I'm still reading my way through Eastern Europe for the AtWi80 challenge.
I'm really enjoying Set This House in Order: A Romance of Souls. Living with so many "souls" in one body (split personality) is odd. Breakfast time is amusing. I'm enjoying the style and flow of the story. It's well thought out and interesting. Wonder if Matt Ruff knew anyone with a split personality himself? He certainly seems to have it laid out logically and well.
I finished Happy Birthday or Whatever: Track Suits, Kim Chee, and Other Family Disasters by Annie Choi last night and loved it! I thought it was hilarious. Now I'm going to start reading The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox. This book has had mixed reviews so I hope I like it.

I am reading her latest book, Winter Garden. It is good, I am about 1/2 way through it. I was sooo disappointed on Feb 9th I was supposed to go up to the Chicago Suburbs (Naperville to be exact) for her book signing tour for this book I am reading but didn't make it due to the weather. The most frustrating part of it is that I LOVE the snow and we NEVER get what they predict, we always get cheated. So naturally that one day we got all the snow and the blowing and drifting. Grrrrr....then to add insult to injury I saw on Kristin Hannahs website last week that Susan Elizabeth Phillips showed up for the signing as well. She is another author I just absolutely love and apparently they are friends. Susan lives in the Chicago area. Just my luck!
Dara, I am reading Winter Garden too and for some reason it has not grabbed me like her other books. Sorry you missed her signing. Sounds just like life!
Eliza wrote: "Angelica- how are you enjoying Push? I just read it, and am surprised by the mixed reviews... I thought it was amazing."I just finished it. I thought it was incredible. I saw Precious last night and loved that, too.
Glad to know others like Kristin Hannah too. I am on the waiting list for Winter Garden and it is a long list. 8>(Tomorrow, I go back to work and will have to cut the amount of reading down, although I did not read as much this vacation due to my Mom and visiting her, but...
