Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Just started an Amelia Peabody mystery, Lion in the Valley. Set in 1895 Egypt.

Sasha Ah, Amelia Peabody. I've read Barbara Mertz's nonfiction books about Egypt - Temples, Tombs, and Hieroglyphs: A Popular History of Ancient Egypt and Red Land, Black Land: Daily Life in Ancient Egypt. They're great. (I think she writes the Peabody books under a different name, but it's the same lady.)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Yes, I think it is the same lady.

message 18154: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I've started reading David Hewson's The Cemetery of Secrets, which has been sitting on my shelf for a while now. It's a slow start but the storyline taking place in 1733 is intriguing.

Becky (munchkinland_farm) The Book of Lost Things by John Connelly (audible.com version). It's just o.k.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Decisions, decisions - I just got my hands on Lustrum by Robert Harris.

message 18157: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 437 comments I am about 150 pages from the end of The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. I really wanted to like it, but I don't really. I agree with some of her ideas but the book is leaving me cold. I just don't understand why and how some of the characters are reacting to others. I enjoyed Atlas Shrugged much more.

Paula | 1098 comments I'm reading "In This Mountain" Jan Karon. I was having trouble getting into it but I think that was because I'm working full time and not able to read as much as I'd like but I'm into it now and enjoying it more.

I love the entire Amelia Peabody series. It is written by Elizabeth Peters aka Barbara Mertz (real name) aka Barbara Michaels, which is a different pen names with a TON of romantic suspense novels that are really good too.

She is one of my favorite authors. Enjoy!

Becky I did the audio (CD) version of this book, too. Glad I did it this way, but it wasn't what I expected. Is it a YA book, b/c if not I think it should be...

I wasn't fond of this one either, Lisa, although I really liked Atlas Shrugged and liked We, The Living and Anthem.

Mahum *It's Summer!!!!* (madaboutmusic) | 65 comments I am starting to read the Pendragon series by MJ Mchale and it is really interesting. It mixes sci- fi and fantasy in a really good way. I would definitely recommend it.

message 18165: by Ida Suyanto (new)

Ida Suyanto | 21 comments I am reading Intertwined. I don't understand the story though I am on page 300-something. I keep on reading. I think maybe I'll get it in the end. But I can't stand guessing every time I read it. Can anyone tell me what the story is talking about?

Mahum *It's Summer!!!!* (madaboutmusic) | 65 comments I tried reading Jane eyre... couldn't get very far before stopping...

message 18170: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jayme-reads) Jane Eyre is awesome!!

message 18171: by Carol (new)

Carol Jane Eyre is old fashion, but when you consider the era in which it was written ,you make allowances. It was a novelty at that time. and is very well written. Some books though just don't capture your interest. I find the older I get my reading choices are not the same as when I was young. The books I read when I was young ,and thought were fantastic, are not now.

KHoopMan (eliza_morgan) | 151 comments Angelica- how are you enjoying Push? I just read it, and am surprised by the mixed reviews... I thought it was amazing.

Mahum *It's Summer!!!!* (madaboutmusic) | 65 comments You know the author of Jane eyre had two sisters, and all three liked to write, but only two of them got their books published? Her sister wrote wuthering heights.

message 18174: by Carol (new)

Carol All three Bronte sister's wrote poems and novels.

Anne wrote The Tennant Of Wildfelll Hall and Agnes Grey
Emily wrote Wuthering Heights her only novel in completion
Charlotte was the most prolific. She wrote several novels of which Jane Eyre is the most widely read.

All three published a book of poems under the pseudonym of Currer, Acton and Ellis Bell

Mahum *It's Summer!!!!* (madaboutmusic) | 65 comments Oh, that is really cool! I did not know about the third sister. The information I got I read somewhere, I believe, but it most have been inaccurate.

message 18176: by Carol (new)

Carol You should read Anne's two books. She was a victorian feminist. Really good.

Mahum *It's Summer!!!!* (madaboutmusic) | 65 comments That's interesting. i will check for her books at my local library next time I go.

I really loved Firefly Lane.....thought it was one of her best books.

message 18187: by Rene (new)

Rene | 49 comments Marti, Firefly Lane was one of my favorites! Great story and very endearing characters that take you on a great journey, especially if you grew up in the 80's and 90's.

message 18188: by Writerlibrarian (new)

Writerlibrarian I've been MIA this February. I read some but not as much as usual. We upgraded the software at the library on the 1rd and well, it's not really working on the 28th. You can imagine the rest.

I'm beginning March with Everything Is Illuminated. I'm still reading my way through Eastern Europe for the AtWi80 challenge.

message 18189: by Petra (new)

Petra I'm really enjoying Set This House in Order: A Romance of Souls. Living with so many "souls" in one body (split personality) is odd. Breakfast time is amusing. I'm enjoying the style and flow of the story. It's well thought out and interesting. Wonder if Matt Ruff knew anyone with a split personality himself? He certainly seems to have it laid out logically and well.

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I finished Happy Birthday or Whatever: Track Suits, Kim Chee, and Other Family Disasters by Annie Choi last night and loved it! I thought it was hilarious.

Now I'm going to start reading The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox. This book has had mixed reviews so I hope I like it.

I am reading her latest book, Winter Garden. It is good, I am about 1/2 way through it. I was sooo disappointed on Feb 9th I was supposed to go up to the Chicago Suburbs (Naperville to be exact) for her book signing tour for this book I am reading but didn't make it due to the weather. The most frustrating part of it is that I LOVE the snow and we NEVER get what they predict, we always get cheated. So naturally that one day we got all the snow and the blowing and drifting. Grrrrr....then to add insult to injury I saw on Kristin Hannahs website last week that Susan Elizabeth Phillips showed up for the signing as well. She is another author I just absolutely love and apparently they are friends. Susan lives in the Chicago area. Just my luck!

message 18192: by Rene (new)

Rene | 49 comments Dara, I am reading Winter Garden too and for some reason it has not grabbed me like her other books. Sorry you missed her signing. Sounds just like life!

Tomorrow, I go back to work and will have to cut the amount of reading down, although I did not read as much this vacation due to my Mom and visiting her, but...

message 18200: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild I just started reading The Postmistress by Sarah Blake (particularly because of The Help's Kathryn Stockett's recommendation) and it's seems great right from the start - however, I've taken medication for my back which makes me quite loopy and it's killing me not to be able to read more quickly.
