i liked The Reluctant Fundamentalist but I didn't care for the ending. i thought it was too ambiguous. i really liked the story and the way it was written, though.

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) My son and I just tonight finished reading, "The Lightning Thief," by Rick Riordan. This was a very interesting book. We want to see the movie and see what was changed and what was kept.

Maria,
I like the book so far. I can't relate to her too much (hardly at all), but I find her witty and funny. I'm definitely entertained by the book. This is the first book that I have read by her, and I would read more of them.

Claire, they are novels that have been used in some form or another on the ABC tv show Lost. Great stuff if you are a fan of the show, or just a fan of great literature!!

I read The Reluctant Fundementalist in 5 hours, the day I bought it. It was such a quick and interesting read, but the ending just wasnt enough for me.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist is the one book that I've never been able to rate. I can't decide if I thought it was great, thought it was too disturbing, or felt cheated. I read it in a day though...it was something.

JSou Claire, here's the link to the list of all the books that have been referenced on the show. It's also over at the Flight 815-ers group too.

There's a lot of great books to pick from!

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments I have just started The Count of Monte Cristo. It is a little intimidating because of the size, but I have heard so many good things about that I will read it anyway.

message 17815: by Carly (new)

Carly Svamvour (faganlady) | 220 comments Finished with The Giant's House - Jeff picked one for us to begin - it's a re-read for me - Outlander - Gil Adamson.

Also finished The Hunger Games - and started Gargoyle - another goodie!

Still working on Until I Find You - John Irving.

Almost finished 'Dreaming in Stereo' by Steve Broderick.

And I'll be leading The Razor's Edge at The Book Nook in April.

I found this one really difficult. I'm glad I read it (listened to it, actually, brilliant Jeremy Irons), but it was so disturbing on so many levels!

I went to look at what was available for The Count of Monte Cristo for kindle and there are tons of versions. Can anyone tell me which one is the complete unabridged version? Here is what came up when I did a search for it:

http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=126574276...

message 17820: by Petra (new)

Petra Diane, if you click on the Titles, and then scroll down on that page, there's a section that says "Print Page Total". The top listing says 400 pages, while the second says 1488 pages. I guess any of these with around 1400 pages is the unabridged version, I think.

Thanks, Jessica. I have never noticed these books while watching Lost but I didn't start watching it until the 2nd season. I'll have to look through this list.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I have the Penguin Classic, translated by Robin Buss, which seems to be a good translation.

Whatever version you get, you need a good (preferably not a Victorian, unless you're into that) translation, and unabridged.

message 17824: by Jenna (new)

Jenna | 224 comments Finished Bitter is the New Black (all of this snow is giving me some major cabin fever, however I am catching up on a lot of reading). I gave it 3 stars since I was entertained and laughed out loud at some points, but I totally can't relate to her.

Going to start Naked by David Sedaris.

Donna, it was pretty good, disturbing at times and bogged down with lots of "adult content" but rounded up to a 3 star read for me by the beautiful writing and a plot that kept me interested to the end.

i know what you mean about not being able to relate to her. it's hard, but there are some things she has addressed that i can relate to. i got abut 100 pages in at work today (snow day again) and i laughed much more than i had the previous 125 pages.

You can also get it through Project Gutenberg:

http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/1184 (This is in English, but there is also a French Version)

I'm reading it now from Gutenberg and the translation is modern, but not overly.

@Bhumi: I liked Poison Study, although I don't usually like that kind of fantasy thing.

@Julie/Rene: I just finished Deliverance Dane... fun. The ending was a little over the top, but that's good too!

I finished reading The Colorman by Ericka Wood the ohter day, and started Brighter Graphite: Two Novellas - which is a collection of two novellas. I read "Graphite" yesterday, and was really impressed by it. Something about this guys writing reminds me a bit of Nabokov. The stuffy kind of personal narration.
